The Sacred Tattoos Of Thailand
In Thailand, everything is connected to Buddhist culture, including their traditional tattoo, Sak Yant.
Sak Yant given by monks or masters are believed to bestow mystical powers, passing down till today, it has become a combination of Buddhism and art. Modern Sak Yant improved by senior monks are said to offer benefits such as good fortune, power or charisma.
We followed A Long, an amulet dealer from Guangzhou, to visit some Sak Yant masters, and then went to the annual Wai Khru ceremony which turned out to be even wilder than any metal music festival. The tattoo wearers, so-called the disciples would come to the ceremony once a year to pay tribute to their masters, some of them got possessed by deities and went on a rampage, it was really a hardcore scene to see.

Thank you Thailand | Best of Asia | Chiang Mai | Bangkok
'thank you THAILAND' is a documentarian attempt to showcase our journey to Thailand (Jan 2015) and the nostalgic memories it has bestowed us with. The film is our gratitude and thanksgiving to all those humble people & beautiful animals we connected with, who made our wandering worthwhile. Thank you, for you taught us to be a little more humble, little more thankful towards life and how a little more humanity goes a long way. Thank you Thailand :)

Meet Thailand’s renowned tattoo master, Ajarn Noo Kanpai. People from around the world travel to Bangkok to seek his blessings and the spiritual powers of an ancient tattoo art called sak yant. Using yantras, geometric designs inscribed with Buddhist psalms and prayers, sak yants are believed to offer protection to the wearer. Originating thousands of years ago, sak yants were once tattooed by monks on warriors to keep them safe during battle.
After leaving the monkhood himself to further pursue the art of sak yant, Noo began his own tattoo samnak, institute, where he shares his philosophies and continues to tattoo people the traditional way by piercing the skin with a sharpened bamboo stick dipped in ink. One of Noo’s most popular tattoos is the hae taew, a five row yantra, which he designed. Each row represents a line of sacred Buddhist scripture.

Travel video about destination Thailand.
Thailand is a land of smiles and sunshine, the gem of Asia. A fascinating land of contrast, chaotic traffic, serene temples, poverty, wealth, hustle and contemplation. The metropolis of Bangkok boasts many wonderful sights such as Wat Phra Kaeo, the Temple Of The Emerald Buddha, that is highly revered by the Thai people. The city’s most important landmark is also its most beautiful temple complex, a wonderful work of art comprising golden Chedis and numerous resplendent buildings. The River Kwai Bridge: the film of the same name made the bridge world famous. In Kanchanaburi the railway spans the wide River Kwai and this bold construction consists of steel and concrete, not wood as was depicted in the film. A bridge that symbolises the brutality of war built by thousands of prisoners of war under the command of the Japanese. Thirteen kilometres north of Bang-In is the former capital of ancient Thailand, Ayutthaya. The most famous historic site in Thailand has retained its exotic appearance. The Wat Mahathat was built in around 1380. Its main feature is a mighty banyan tree whose roots grow around a severed Buddha head. Chiang Mai is the most important city in northern Thailand and is located within a fertile river valley three hundred metres above sea level. The centre of the first independent kingdom in Thailand situated within the famous Golden Triangle. The Hmong are the largest of the northern mountain tribes. They originated in Laos and Southern China and it is believed that this tribe, divided into clans, once had its own kingdom. Thailand is a mysterious land full of contrast, natural beauty and superlative exotica!

Assignment Asia Episode 103: Divine Ink: Thailand’s Sacred Tattoos
For thousands of years, Thai culture has cherished the spiritual powers of mystical tattoos inked by Buddhist monks and masters of magic. The popularity has now filtered down to other sectors of the population with teenagers, construction workers, street vendors and even tourists opting for a second, magical skin.
Using stainless steel needles, the monk inscribes the tattoos using ink made from cigarette ash, snake venom and herbs. Adherents believe that the tattoos are able to offer them protection against danger and death, as well as bring luck, power, and courage.
By visiting Wat Bang Phra, a Buddhist temple about 30 miles west of Bangkok famed for its magic tattoos, Dusita Saokaew checked out the sacred tattoo tradition and discovered its magical appeal to Thais and foreigners alike. Besides speaking to master tattoo artists, she also went on a personal journey with the devotees to understand their belief in the tattoos’ supernatural powers.
The story also looked at how Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie’s endorsement has led to the growth of the tattoo tourism industry. It also spoke to local groups who oppose the commercialization of Buddha images and symbols, arguing that getting such tattoos is considered “improper and lacks respect.”

TOP 3 TEMPLES IN CHIANG RAI - Thailand White Temple & More!
Here are the Top 3 Temples in Chiang Rai you must see while visiting! Seeing the famous Thailand White Temple was a bucket list item as it’s regarded as one of the best temples in Thailand. But, there is more to Chiang Rai than just the White Temple. Find out which temples you need to visit by watching our Top 3 picks!
After visiting dozens of traditional Thai temples throughout our travels, we decided to visit the unique and unconventional temples during our trip to Chiang Rai. Our first stop, bright and early, was to the famous Thailand White Temple, also known as Wat Rong Khun. It is an absolute necessity to arrive at the Chiang Rai White Temple early, 8am to be exact, to avoid the massive amounts of crowds that surround the temple around early afternoon. The White Temple is owned by a popular artist from Chiang Rai Thailand who has grown to be one of the most influential artists in the country. Although the Wat Rong Khun is not traditional, it is one of the most unique Thailand temples in existence. The Chiang Rai White Temple is open from 8am-6pm and costs 50 Baht to enter.
Our second stop of the day was the Chiang Rai Blue Temple, also known as Wat Rong Seur Ten. We put this on our list of top 3 temples in Chiang Rai because of the sheer artistry that went into creating this temple. In fact, the Blue Temple in Chiang Rai was created by an artist who was a student of the creator of the White Temple. For that reason, you will see similar styles of art between the two temples. The most impressive aspect of the Blue Temple was easily the inside. Unlike the White Temple, you can film and take pictures inside of the Blue Temple. Wow, were we happy about that! The inside of Wat Rong Seur Ten is something out of a Michelangelo painting, it’s that amazing. The entire inside, along with every inch of wall and ceiling is completely covered in amazing mural art and religious design. It’s a sight to behold. The Chiang Rai Blue Temple is open from 8am-8pm and has a free admission.
Lastly, we visited the Chiang Rai Black House, which isn’t a temple per say but rather a museum. Many people also call this the “Black Temple” because most of it’s buildings are designed in a Thai temple style. The Black House is the lifetime collection of yet another famous Thai artist which he leaves on display for tourists traveling through Chiang Rai. The Black House grounds actually consist of 40 buildings on a vast landscape, so crowds aren’t really an issue unlike the other two temples. The Black House has the most expensive admission at 80 Baht per person, and is open from 9am-5pm.
If you have any questions about the top 3 temples in Chiang Rai please leave a comment down below and we will respond as soon as possible. We highly recommend seeing all three locations including the Thailand White Temple, Blue Temple, Black House and it’s grounds. We hope you enjoyed our latest Chiang Rai Thailand travel vlog. Asia Trip - Chiang Mai, Temples, Markets & Thai Boxing
It's taken a while to find good upload speeds but the next instalment of our Asia adventure is now live... We arrived in Chiang Mai on the overnight train and headed for the Wad Phra Sing temple after leaving our bags at the hotel. We watched the sunrise from inside the temple while the monks were going about their duties. After a short siesta we headed to a night market and then to watch some Thai boxing.

???????? CHIANGMAI's BOUTIQUE STAY : Ping Nakara
Art Thomya, a Thai singer/songwriter, will show you the internationally-acclaimed Boutique Hotel - PING NAKARA. This hotel won several local and international awards due to its splendid Lanna Colonial architecture. Let's explore this place together!
In the early 1900s Chiang Mai was at the centre of a thriving teak industry. Foreign managers oversaw logging concessions throughout the forests of Northern Thailand. With the help of local labour and hardy elephants they performed their arduous and dangerous work, extracting teak logs and floating them downstream for grading and sale.
Today the teak wallahs are gone. But the river and forestry station remain, and the relaxed ambiance of Chiang Mai city is just as enticing as ever. The Ping Nakara takes inspiration from these times past with an intimate hotel built in the elegant colonial style of the period.
The hotel’s graceful gingerbread architecture is accented by hand-carved fretwork and creates a cool and restful environment. Throughout the nineteen rooms you’ll find thoughtful use of natural materials and a distinctive yet practical style. This sophisticated design is matched by relaxed yet professional service, providing a welcoming retreat for the traveller.
So please visit us when you’re in Chiang Mai. Enjoy the serenity of the veranda next to the pool, curl up with a book in our library, or unwind with a drink in the rotunda. Whatever your preference, we’re sure you’ll enjoy this return to elegance.
