Dodgertown
Dodgertown in Vero Beach, FL hosted the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers for Spring Training between 1948-2008.
WEDNESDAY WISDOM | Historic Dodgertown | Vero Beach | MyReynoldsTeam.com
When opened in 1948 in Vero Beach, Dodgertown became the first fully-integrated Spring Training facility in the South. The 1st Major League exhibition game at Dodgertown was played on Field 2, featuring future Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella and Duke Snider. 6,000 fans who flocked to Dodgertown watched as Robinson homered in the 1st inning of that 1st Dodger game.
In 2014 Historic Dodgertown was recognized as a Florida Heritage Landmark. For fans visiting Historic Dodgertown, they can know they are walking and playing on hallowed ground. Visitors can see where Hall of Famers practiced their game, where 6 World Championship teams started their seasons, 9 Most Valuable Players honed their craft, and where 16 Rookies of the Year first glanced at the pristine fields and took their first steps to baseball greatness.
As of December 2018, Indian River County and Major League Baseball reached an agreement on the future of Historic Dodgertown with the MLB planning to continue year-round activity at the complex and will develop and invest in the property. Historic Dodgertown is where the present meets the past, with many more years in which to look forward.
