How we completed Dodital's 22 Km ट्रेक || Is it worth visiting?
Watch this awesome travel video of Dodital trek. This travel vlog will take you from Dehradun through Uttarkashi, its villages, and right up to Dodital - A beautiful lake in Uttarakhand, India. Ajey semwal is my fellow traveller in this trek to Dodital.
Dodital is a lake in the Uttarakhand state of India. To be precise, it is in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state.
The first day, we started from Dehradun (the capital city of Uttarakhand) and reached up to Uttarkashi which is around 143 km from Dehradun. We stayed there overnight and then early morning we rode around 10 km before we reached Sangam Chatti -- a small village. Tourists may get eatables here.
From there we started our 22 km trek. The first patch of 5 km up to Agora village was quite difficult but then another 2 km trek to Bebra village was a big sigh of relief. Bebra is the only place where you can grab a bite because after that you just have to trek for 17 km on the trot.
The first day we reached up to Maanjhi where we stayed in our tent. On the way to Maanjhi, we experienced the serenity and tranquillity like never before. As if nature had wide opened its arms to welcome us. The snow lad peaks were the sole hope for us as no living beings could be seen there except birds and animals. It was so as we had planned on a festive day and people were not as wacko as us.
Next early morning, we moved towards our summit. We were already so infused with enthusiasm but when we witnessed the lake, it literally transpired everything so surreal. we could not wait but to admire the beauty of the lake endlessly. It was indeed one of the best trips so far in my life.

Indian porters carrying load as they move forwards to Sangam Chatti during Dodital trek in Uttarakhand.
Dodital is an emerald lake nestled amidst high mountains at an altitude of 3,310mts above sea level. With its seren setting and tranquil environs, Dodital is arguably one of the most beautiful high altitude lakes of North India. Dodital is named after the rare Himalayan Trout’s known as Dodi in local language. This lake is one of the very few water bodies where Himalayan Trout’s are found.
On one corner of the lake a beautiful temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. According to mythology this is the place where Lord Ganesh was born. The circumference of the lake is 1.5kms with dense deodar trees all around it. Dodital can be reached in two days by trekking 22kms from Sangam Chatti. Assi Ganga flows down from Sangam Chatti
Assi Ganga River is located 11 km ahead of Uttarkashi. The river originates from Dodital Lake and merges with the famous river Bhagirathi at Uttarkashi. A bridge can also be seen in this video which connects Agoda from Dodital.
The river is primarily habited by brown Trout fishes that are larger in size. The fishes were introduced to this small river by the British colonels in 1869 to satiate their angling desire. After independence for many years the river remained untouched. As a result the fishes could grow naturally and now a number of good catches are found in this river. In the recent past the destination has been rediscovered, and catch and release system is being introduced here. For angling in the Assi River, one needs to take permission from the forest department in advance. April to June is considered to be a good season for angling in the Assi River.
