Jimmie Allen - Slower Lower (Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty REMIX) OFFICIAL VIDEO
Roots run a little deeper in the Slightly Mighty state of Delaware.
Country music star, Jimmie Allen recently returned to his home state of Delaware to play a live show at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in downtown Rehoboth Beach. In the midst of prepping for the sold out show, Jimmie and Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione had the chance to collaborate on a remixed version of his hit song Slower Lower. A song chock full of references to the slight, but mighty state of Delaware, the original version was inspired by Jimmie’s time growing up in the small town of Milton - the very town that’s home to Dogfish Head's brewery and distillery.
With strong ties to and a love for coastal Delaware, the connection and camaraderie between Jimmie and Sam was instant. Together, they came up with the lyrics for the remix of Slower Lower, including references to both of their histories in the First State.
Red lips sipping on a white can
Tan legs down to her blue vans
She’s slight but she’s mighty like her home state
The kiss of the hops make it taste great
Sometimes we’re higher than the blue sky
And everybody's feeling just right
For Sam, those references include Dogfish Head and Slightly Mighty - our new lo-cal IPA that is brewed with lo-cal(ly) grown and malted barley. With only 95 calories, 3.6g carbs, 1g protein, 0g fat per 12oz serving, Slightly Mighty is slight in calories and carbs, with mighty hop character … or as Jimmie sings in the Slower Lower remix, “she’s slight, but mighty like her home state.”
The music video for the remix of Slower Lower features both Jimmie and Sam visually exploring their “stomping grounds.” Scenes include the duo sipping on “ice cold (Slightly Mighty) beer,” locals relaxing “closer to the water,” and more.
So settle it, grab a Slightly Mighty and enjoy!

Making Beer From Scrapple: Craftwerk Dogfish Head
Sam Calagione is one the forefathers of the craft beer revolution. His brewery Dogfish Head, founded in 1995, now produces over 175,000 barrels of beer annually, growing nearly 400 percent between 2003 and 2006. We traveled down to their massive headquarters in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware, to have Sam show us their very impressive operation. We also visited their brewpub to whip up a scrapple-based beer Sam has been thinking up for quite some time. Enjoy this inside look into one of the world's biggest craft breweries. Bringing Dogfish Head's scratch-made spirits to life
Our new spirits – Analog Vodka, Compelling Gin and Whole Leaf Gin – are now available throughout Delaware, with more states on the horizon. We put our new American-made copper stills smack in the middle of our Milton campus, giving Head Distiller Graham Hamblett access to the same quality ingredients, brewing expertise and top-of-the-line equipment used to make our off-centered ales.

Dogfish Head Brewery
Milton, Delaware, United States
Let's travel back in time again for another Dogfish Head Ancient Ale (Midas Touch was our first foray and Theobroma our most recent). Our destination is 9,000 years ago, in Northern China! Preserved pottery jars found in the Neolithic villiage of Jiahu, in Henan province, have revealed that a mixed fermented beverage of rice, honey and fruit was being produced that long ago, right around the same time that barley beer and grape wine were beginning to be made in the Middle East!
Fast forward to 2005. Molecular archaeologist Dr. Patrick McGovern of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology calls on Dogfish Head to re-create another ancient beverage, and Chateau Jiahu is born.
In keeping with historic evidence, Dogfish brewers use brown rice syrup, orange blossom honey, muscat grape, barley malt and hawthorn berry. The wort is fermented for about a month with sake yeast until the beer is ready for packaging.

Sit down for an intimate talk with Dogfish Head founder and president Sam Calagione as he talks about Dogfish Head's unique thumbprint on the IPA style, some exciting new beers and dozens of beer dinners celebrating the mighty hop.
Delaware Brewery Road Trip 2 - 16 Mile Brewing Company
After visiting Dogfish Head, we headed to 16 Mile Brewing Company in Georgetown, Delaware. We were excited to visit and highlight this brewery because they were the first brewery to ever send us beer for review. It was great to finally meet the men behind the beer. It was a casual, relaxed atmosphere and it was fun being in a smaller brewery where we could be a little more hands on. Make sure and check out their beers next time you are in the state of Delaware.

Transcript: After visiting the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, we headed 12 miles southwest to the 16 Mile Brewing Company in Georgetown, Delaware. This 15 barrel brewery seemed very small after our last stop. When we walked in, owner Chad Campbell was raking out the mash tun.
There was a folksy vibe that permeated the brewery. You could count the staff on one hand. Everyone was very friendly. 16 Mile opened in 2009 and is currently focused on being THE local brewery. Claus Hagelman, their sales and marketing director gave us a great tour of the facility. We saw their grain mill, where they use mostly English barley.
We also saw some of the their new packaging. They've decided to use traditional 12 oz brown bottles for their 6-packs instead of the 16 oz aluminum bottles that they started with.
We then headed over to heart of the brewery where Mark Smith had the opportunity to rake spent barley out of the lauter tun while Chef gave him some encouragement.
They currently have a nice collection of 15 and 30 barrel fermenters And, they have recently added a new addition where they will be adding more fermenters and have a much larger cooler for storing beer.
After the tour, we interviewed co-owner Chad Campbell to learn more about 16 Mile.
Chad Campbell SOT
Make sure you watch the entire interview when it is posted.
We also had a chance to sample the entire 16 Mile line-up in their brand new taproom. Claus gave us samples and descriptions for each of their six beers. In general, they were lower ABV, session ales. My favorites were two of their newer offerings -- the Inlet IPA and their Harvest Ale. If you ever get a chance I recommend that you try them.
Even though I could have spent the rest of the day at the taproom enjoying the ambience and hospitality, we had to leave after another pint. We still had work to do. That night we had to hit the Dogfish Head Brewpub and the next day we had two more brewery tours -- Evolution Craft Brewery and Fordham and Old Dominion. 120 Minute IPA - Beer Review
BBA T-SHIRTS ARE FOR SALE:
120 Minute IPA is not cheap and it's not easy to get. Dogfish Head releases it several times a year and it sells out quickly. Is it worth the effort of tracking down a 4-pack? It's called an IPA, but at 18% it's not like most IPAs. Does it even taste like an IPA? So many questions about a beer that we've wanted to review for a long time. It was so special that I even wore a tux for the occasion.
Partial Transcript: On Tap -- 120 Minute IPA
Hi, I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are sipping on a beer that we've been looking forward to reviewing for months -- 120 Minute IPA from the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, DE.
Dogfish Head's leader Sam Caligione claims that this is the strongest IPA in the world. It is only released a couple times a year and can be hard to get your hands on.
It is around 18 percent ABV and the high alcohol content prevents it from being released in many states -- including our home state of Ohio. It has a 120 IBUs and they boil the hops for 120 minutes -- hence the name.
120 is dry-hopped daily for one month and then aged an additional month with more hops. Although this beer has more IBUs than their 60 and 90 Minute IPAs, it is actually sweeter than those because of all the unfermentable sugars that are left over when you brew such a high ABV beer.
Dogfish Head does not recommend drinking an entire bottle of 120 unless it is done over the course of entire evening. Instead, they recommend grabbing two snifters and splitting a bottle with a friend. Pull 120 out of the fridge 30 minutes before you want to drink it.
Q&A
120 Minute IPA gets a (???) on the BBA scale. Have you had this beer? Did it live up to the hype? Is this an everyday type of beer for you? Let us know in the comment section. Thanks for watching. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority.

At one point, the village engaged in a successful button making industry, creating buttons from shipments of mother-of-pearl from Europe.
