Since 1998 the prestigious Qatar Masters golf tournament has been hosted by Doha Golf Club. From teeing off at the first, to the final putt on the last, Doha Golf Club's challenging all-grass course is famed for its tantalizing combination of beauty and complexity. It was designed by Peter Harradine, one of the world's leading golf course architects, and it measures 7,374 yards from the tournament tees.
Golf's elite will need to use every ounce of their talent as they navigate 18 holes, lengthy rough, desert sand, rocks, trees, shrubs and wispy grass, as well as eight stunning artificial lakes. On a course as tough as this, victory is all the sweeter

Exploring Qatar Education City Golf Club
For those of you who are looking to engage in a new sport or simply want to keep in practice, Qatar Foundation’s Education City Golf Club (ECGC) presents a fantastic offering, fully-equipped with sophisticated technology and world-class facilities.
In this episode of Exploring Qatar, Jorge and Gigi from Qatar Living step out to learn more about what’s on offer at ECGC, which is not only a landmark for Qatar but a top-ranked golfing facility in the world!
The Club comprises of three golf courses: the 18-hole championship course that makes its way through desert and wadi terrain; the nine-hole par 3 course, with holes ranging from 100-175 yards in length, that further enhances the facility; and the six-hole championship course that features two par 3’s, three par 4’s and one par five, meant to give juniors, beginners and families the opportunity to experience a world-class golf course in a shorter format.
The impressive club has been designed by Spanish architect, José María Olazábel, and is located on the outskirts of Doha set against the backdrop of the Education City Stadium, which will host the FIFA World Cup 2022 matches, up-to the quarter final stages.
In addition to the three courses, ECGC comprises a training academy that features trackman range allowing golfers to use their iPhones to track the golf ball.
Also embedded within the club is The Center of Excellence, which is the leading teaching academy in the Middle East.
Additionally, the club has a range of different studios for training that embrace cutting-edge technology, making the experience of learning and practicing golf unmatchable.
With respect to the country’s culture, the Club also has partitioned, private swing studios for ladies, private ladies short game area, and a number of female trainers to allow ladies to fully enjoy their golfing experience!

Just a few years ago, the location of the Doha Golf Club was nothing but rocky desert.
Golf course designer Peter Harradine created an impressive 18-hole championship course on 150 hectares. One of the most important events in the annual calendar of the small state of Qatar is the Qatar Masters. The European PGA tour arranges for major golfers to play at the Doha Golf Club. Accordingly, the course presents itself as a worthy sporting area. With its 6600 metres, the course is the longest on the tour. The first nine holes are exceptionally short and provide several challenging par 3 holes. The back nine however are long but offer wide fairways and relatively few hazards.

Every year, the only golf course in Doha, Qatar hosts a European PGA tour. Many famous names show up but not Tiger Woods. The weather is typically winter in Qatar which means temps in high 50s or low 60s. Once during the four day tournament, there is a shower and brisk winds that you think you are in Aberdeen. And this year, that was on Friday.
Like everything else in Qatar, the entrance to the tournament is free. The trick is to get an access to VIP lounge which I manage to get every year.
