Sunrise on Doi Pha Hom Pok - Thailand's 2nd Highest Mountain
Sunrise on Doi Pha Hom Pok (ดอยผ้าห่มปก), Thailand's 2nd highest mountain.
Standing at 2,285m above sea level, this is the tallest peak in the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park in north Thailand. It is in Chiang Mai province, near the town of Fang and the Myanmar border, and is part of the Daen Lao range (ทิวเขาแดนลาว). The mountain is also sometimes known as Doi Fah Hom Pok.
Before the hike, we camped at Kiew Lom (กิ่ลม), Thailand's highest campsite at 1,924m. We left in the dark at 5am to be on the summit for the sunrise at 6:30am. Most hikers leave earlier than that. There were about 15 people on the summit when we arrived. From the summit there are nice views to the west over the mountains of Myanmar, and over north Thailand to the east.
Having failed to find an alternative route down to the north, we descended the same way, walking the Doi Pha Hom Pok Nature Trail in reverse. The trail is marked by 8 information boards: 1. Orchids, 2. Rhcophoridae, 3. Han Chang Rong, 4. Big Trees, 5. View Point, 6. Hill Evergreen Forest, 7. Tain Kum, 8. Chomphu Pimjai. We saw some interesting flora that is shown in the video but little fauna.
The whole walk could be done comfortably in around 4 hours including summit time. It would also make a good afternoon/evening hike, with sunset on the summit, and a descent in the dark.
The Kiew Lom campsite is good. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed for the drive up to there. The westerly checkpoint near Fang would not let us in with our rented Nissan X-Trail, saying it was too low, and that we should buy a trip in their pickup taxi, however the easterly checkpoint near Mae Sao let us in. There is a 2nd fine campsite nearby called หน่วยพิทักษ์อุทยานแห่งชาติที่ ดป.4 (Little House on the Prairie Project) that you can find in Google Earth.

Doi Pha Hom Pok, Thailand 2019
My first hike overseas!
Since I'm going on a holiday in Thailand so why not included a day for mountain hiking. The fact that I'm spending the first few days in Chiang Mai which is near to the Daen Lao Range, makes it even more sense. So after looking at the list of possible place to explore, I opted for Doi Pha Hom Pok which is the second highest mountain in Thailand. The trip started with a 3 hours drive from Chiang Mai to the town called Fang. There we meet the national park ranger who then drove us for about an hour to the starting point. The place is actually a popular camping site due to its cool weather. The hike is about 3.5km which is approximately 2 plus hours. Along the way, we can actually see the border between Thailand and Myanmar. That alone makes this hike even more interesting. Overall it was a pleasant experience to hike in a foreign land and I was grateful for my guide Mr.Moon & his assistant Water from Chiang Mai Local Tours and our national park ranger for all the arrangement.

SUMMARY
=======
Thai cuisine (Thai: อาหารไทย, RTGS: ahan thai, pronounced [ʔāː.hǎːn tʰāj]) is the national cuisine of Thailand.
Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components and a spicy edge. Thai chef McDang characterises Thai food as demonstrating intricacy; attention to detail; texture; color; taste; and the use of ingredients with medicinal benefits, as well as good flavor, as well as care being given to the food's appearance, smell and context. Australian chef David Thompson, an expert on Thai food, observes that unlike many other cuisines, Thai cooking rejects simplicity and is about the juggling of disparate elements to create a harmonious finish.
In 2017, seven Thai dishes appeared on a list of the World's 50 Best Foods— an online poll of 35,000 people worldwide by CNN Travel. Thailand had more dishes on the list than any other country. They were: tom yam goong (4th), pad Thai (5th), som tam (6th), massaman curry (10th), green curry (19th), Thai fried rice (24th) and mu nam tok (36th).
Racism, School Desegregation Laws and the Civil Rights Movement in the United States
The African-American Civil Rights Movement (1955--1968) refers to the social movements in the United States aimed at outlawing racial discrimination against black Americans and restoring voting rights to them. This article covers the phase of the movement between 1955 and 1968, particularly in the South. The emergence of the Black Power Movement, which lasted roughly from 1966 to 1975, enlarged the aims of the Civil Rights Movement to include racial dignity, economic and political self-sufficiency, and freedom from oppression by white Americans.
The movement was characterized by major campaigns of civil resistance. Between 1955 and 1968, acts of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience produced crisis situations between activists and government authorities. Federal, state, and local governments, businesses, and communities often had to respond immediately to these situations that highlighted the inequities faced by African Americans. Forms of protest and/or civil disobedience included boycotts such as the successful Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955--1956) in Alabama; sit-ins such as the influential Greensboro sit-ins (1960) in North Carolina; marches, such as the Selma to Montgomery marches (1965) in Alabama; and a wide range of other nonviolent activities.
Noted legislative achievements during this phase of the Civil Rights Movement were passage of Civil Rights Act of 1964, that banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin in employment practices and public accommodations; the Voting Rights Act of 1965, that restored and protected voting rights; the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965, that dramatically opened entry to the U.S. to immigrants other than traditional European groups; and the Fair Housing Act of 1968, that banned discrimination in the sale or rental of housing. African Americans re-entered politics in the South, and across the country young people were inspired to action.
Desegregation busing in the United States (also known as forced busing or simply busing) is the practice of assigning and transporting students to schools in such a manner as to redress prior racial segregation of schools, or to overcome the effects of residential segregation on local school demographics.
