CHIANG MAI: POLICE FINES, WAT DOI SUTHEP AND DOI PUI || TRAVEL THAILAND
It was an eventful day going to Wat Doi Suthep and Doi Pui village, as we were stopped by Thai police three times and later witnessed the aftermath of a big accident (although it could have been a lot worse). Thankfully, although a girl’s scooter ended up about ten metres down off the side of a road, she didn’t seem too badly injured and was able to get herself into the ambulance that arrived for her. Nonetheless, it served as a serious reminder for the need for caution when riding a scooter. Was Doing Suthep was nice but a little busy, and Doi Pui was a lovely addition to the day!

Doi Suthep Pui National Park
Doi Suthep-Pui Trip in Chiang Mai 4K
Trip up to Doi Suthep-Pui in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
We're trekking through the jungle on a Sunday, visiting some small waterfalls around Pha Ngoeb.
Up to Doi Suthep, stopped at the Mon Pha Dam View Point by Bhubing Palace, then on to Doi Pui when a torrential downpour forced us to go back at the Doi Pui View Point.
Thankfully we didn't get soaked as we hid in a restaurant by the Wat Phra Doi Suthep parking lot.
After the rain stopped, we drove back down on the motorbike to Chiang Mai city and enjoyed an awesome cheesecake brownie at the Chiang Mai University Yindee coffee shop.

Hmong people:
The Hmong are an Asian ethnic group from the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Hmong are also one of the sub-groups of the Miao ethnicity in southern China. Hmong groups began a gradual southward migration in the 18th century due to political unrest and to find more arable land.
A number of Hmong people fought against the communist Pathet Lao during the Laotian Civil War. Hmong people were singled out for retribution when the Pathet Lao took over the Laotian government in 1975, and tens of thousands fled to Thailand seeking political asylum. Thousands of these refugees have resettled in Western countries since the late 1970s, mostly the United States but also in Australia, France, French Guiana, Canada, and South America. Others have been returned to Laos under United Nations-sponsored repatriation programs. Around 8,000 Hmong refugees remain in Thailand.
Doi Suthep , is a mountain located in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. It is 1,676 m tall and is one of the twin peaks of a granite mountain located west of Chiang Mai. The other peak is known as Doi Pui and is slightly taller (1,685 m).
Suthep is located 15 km away from Chiang Mai city centre. Most of the bedrock of the mountain is granite. The vegetation below c. 1,000 m is mostly deciduous forest and evergreen above this height.
The Doi Suthep - Doi Pui hill is part of the Thanon Thong Chai Range, the southernmost subrange of the Shan Highland system.[1] Other high peaks of the same range are Doi Luang Chiang Dao (2,175 m), Doi Pui (1,685 m), and Doi Inthanon, the highest point in Thailand, reaching 2,565 m.
Road in Doi Suthep - Doi Pui National ParkThe Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple is on top of the hill. This Buddhist place of worship dates back to the year 1383 when the first chedi was built.[3] It is an important pilgrimage spot for the devout and a legend featuring a white elephant is connecteed to this revered site. There are spectacular views of Chiang Mai city and its surroundings from the top of this mountain.
This mountain is part of the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. The park was established in 1981 and has an area of 261 km2 that includes the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple as well as Bhubing palace, placed among flower gardens.
Doi Pui, the other peak of the massif, is located close by along a surfaced road as well as through forest paths. Hmong hill tribe people live in the surrounding area.Wikipedia
Northern Thailand- Doi Suthep Pui National Park
Day 1 of our Northern Chiang Mai Trip!
Landed at Chiang Mai International Airport, picked up our self drive rental car and off we went to have our first taste of Northern Thai Cuisine at Khao Soy Maesai . Must try items are their Khao Soy and Thai style laksa in coconut base broth!
Next we headed up the mountains to the famous Doi Pui National Park. Made our first stop at Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, one of the most holy Buddhist sites in Thailand. It is a major pilgrimage destination. Be prepared to climb 309 steps to reach the temple! It was well worth the climb. We paid 30baht entrance fee. This awe-inspiring temple is crowned by an elaborate Chedi (Monument), 24 meters (79 feet) tall and gold plated from top to bottom. The Chedi's golden exterior catches the sun and blazes like a beacon over the city. The temple was so glorious in gold, glistening in the bright afternoon sun. Monks performed rituals and believers were chanting and praying. We paid our respects and spend time wondering around admiring the magnificent views and surroundings.
After the climb down, we headed further into the National Park to the Hmong Village. A visit to this village is an eye-opener into the tribal villagers’ private life. Witness their simple way of living, their homes, as well as learn about their culture through a collection of objects, such as musical instruments, traditional silver-embroidered costumes and bamboo crafts. There are stalls upon stalls of hand made clothes, souvenirs and food all hand made by the Hmong tribe. Children ran around enjoying the afternoon breeze. Walking further in beyond the market, we arrived at the flower garden. There was a waterfall and flowers were abloom.
Last stop of the day, we stopped at Huay Kaew Waterfall on the way back to Chiang Mai City. The waterfall is easy to access and there is a car park outside of the entrance, with vendors selling drinks snacks and fruit. The waterfall is free to enter and good for both children and adults. The water was cooling and refreshing.

Wandern in Thailand ist anstrengend! | Doi Suthep National Park Area Chiang Mai
Also lieber ausschlafen.
Liebe Grüße,
Vitaa ????

DOI SUTHEP · THE MOST ICONIC PLACE IN CHIANG MAI | TRAVEL VLOG #37
If there's one thing everyone does when they visit Chiang Mai, it's going to see the temple at the top of the Suthep Mountain, which everyone just refers to as Doi Suthep – but there's a reason why everyone goes there, and in today's vlog we join the crowds!
The entrance to Doi Suthep is 30 baht for foreigners, and you can get there either by scooter or songthaew. We always take our scooter, but a songthaew from the foot of the mountain is only 40 baht. There's no reason not to go. Except if you hate stairs. Then I guess that would be a reason. There's a lot of 'em.

Hi there! I'm Anne-Li – Danish girl, globetrotter, travel vlogger, blogger and digital nomad traveling the world with my partner in crime and long-term boyfriend Mathias. Spending a month in Budapest every summer taught us that traveling does not have to be expensive and that slow travel is the way to go – for us. We have been traveling full-time since September 2016, and we usually base ourselves in one place for at least a month or two. This way of traveling is not only budget friendly – it also means that we can take our time and really explore and enjoy the place we're in. We eat local food, shop at local markets, meet local people and enjoy experiencing different cultures – all the while seeking out the best wifi and exploring everything there is to explore. Everyday is another adventure, and we’d love for you to be part of it!

Kyle and Farah explore the old city in the hot sun. Then they go to the popular attraction Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a temple on the mountains.
( Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is a Theravada Wat in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Theravada, literally school of the elder monks is a branch of Buddhism that uses the Buddha's teaching preserved tends to be very conservative about matters of doctrine and monastic discipline. A Wat is a Buddhist temple in Thailand, Cambodia or Laos. Phra That means Buddha relic, Doi Suthep means Mountain Suthep. Monks and priests in a Theravada Wat are prohibited from talking with the feminine, monastic orders or fraternities are in a religious way of life in which one renounces worldly pursuits to devote oneself fully to spiritual work. Since Monasticism or monkhood lay stress on alone, Theravada Wat such a Buddhist school of elder monks and priests place is definitely a Buddhist Holy Land, therefore it is inevitable that this area declared out of bounds for greeting females.)

The Songkran festival is the Thai New Year's festival. The Thai New Year's Day is 13 April every year, but the holiday period includes 14–15 April as well. In the northern region of Thailand 13 April is celebrated with gunfire or firecrackers to repel bad luck. On the next day, people prepare food and useful things to offer to the monks at the temple. People have to go to temple to make merit and bathe Buddha's statue and after that they pour water on the hands of elders and ask for their blessings. Chiang Mai has become one of the most popular locations to visit during this festival. Famous crazy water fights along the west moat in Chiang Mai old city fortification, lead to water shortage and sanitation required. In 1990, Government set up Water Treatment Works for the moat. And water trucks were going to serve with sufficient clean water for the moat in this great activity.

Instead of doing a guided tour, I rented a moped and decided to head up the 1004 and see where I end up. Viewpoints are free, but everything comes with an entrance fee. Mon Tha Than Waterfall being the most expensive and Hmong Waterfall being the cheapest. The Bhubing Palace does not allow entry into the palace - only the grounds.

Description
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - Chiang Mai - Thailand
Wikipedia:
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (Thai: วัดพระธาตุดอยสุเทพ) is a Theravada Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. The temple is often referred to as Doi Suthep although this is actually the name of the mountain it is located on. The temple is located 15 km from the city of Chiang Mai and is a sacred site to many Thai people. From the temple, impressive views of Chiang Mai can be seen and it remains a popular destination for tourists.
The original founding of the temple remains a legend and there are a few varied versions. The temple is said to have been founded in 1383 when the first chedi was built.[1] Over time, the temple has expanded, and been made to look more extravagant with many more holy shrines added. A road to the temple was first built in 1935.
White Elephant Legend[edit source | editbeta]
White elephant shrine
According to legend, a monk named Sumanathera from Sukhothai had a dream; in this vision he was told to go to Pang Cha and look for a relic. Sumanathera ventured to Pang Cha and is said to have found a bone, which many claim was Buddha's shoulder bone. The relic displayed magical powers; it glowed, it was able to vanish, it could move itself and replicate itself. Sumanathera took the relic to King Dharmmaraja who ruled the Sukhothai.
The eager Dharmmaraja made offerings and hosted a ceremony when Sumanathera arrived. However, the relic displayed no abnormal characteristics, and the king, doubtful of the relic's authenticity, told Sumanathera to keep it.
However, King Nu Naone of the Lanna Kingdom heard of the relic and offered the monk to take it to him instead. In 1368 with Dharmmaraja's permission, Sumanathera took the relic to what is now Lamphun, in northern Thailand. The relic apparently split in two, one piece was the same size, the other was smaller than the original. The smaller piece of the relic was enshrined at a temple in Suandok. The other piece was placed by the King on the back of a white elephant which was released in the jungle. The elephant is said to have climbed up Doi Suthep, at the time called Doi Aoy Chang (Sugar Elephant Mountain), trumpeted three times before dying at the site. It was interpreted as a sign and King Nu Naone ordered the construction of a temple at the site.
Stairs to Wat Doi Suthep
The wat can be reached by road from Chiang Mai. From the car park, at the temple base visitors can climb 309 steps for free to reach the pagodas or there is a tram.[2] Entry to the temple on the tram costs 30 Thai baht for foreigners (or 50 baht if you would like a two-way tram ticket included)[3] and is free for Thai nationals.
Once inside the temple grounds; visitors must take off their shoes. Visitors must be appropriately dressed. The original copper plated chedi is the most holy area of the temple grounds. Within the site are pagodas, statues, bells and shrines. Aspects of the Wat draw from both Buddhism and Hinduism. There is a model of the Emerald Buddha and a statue of the Hindu God Ganesh. Views of Chiang Mai can be seen on the other side of the temple.
