Dokk1 Library
'Dokk1 or Dokken is a building, public library and culture center in Aarhus, Denmark. It is situated on Hack Kampmanns Plads in the city center by the waterfront next to the Custom House. Dokk1 is part of the much larger development project Urban Mediaspace Aarhus, jointly financed by Aarhus Municipality and Realdania for 2.1 billion DKK. It is designed by schmidt hammer lassen architects and Kristine Jensen, with construction managed by NCC AB. Construction broke ground 8 June 2011 and the building was inaugurated four years later on 20 June 2015.
The name of the building was determined by a public contest held in the autumn of 2012. The combination of letters and number can be pronounced as dokken, dok én or dok ét, meaning The Dock or Dock One in English. The term references the location on the former industrial harbor by the waterfront.'

The Car Park System is supplied by Lödige Industries, Germany. Lödige's turn-key scope of works included system design, manufacturing and supply of mechanical and electrical equipment, steel and concrete works, transfer cabins and all IT systems like payment and supervisory control systems.
Dokk 1 Aarhus Public Library, Denmark
A world class library
The library in Dokk1 belongs to the elite of libraries around the world. You are not in doubt of this when you walk through the main entrance into the futuristic environment. As the building houses not only the library, but also a multimedia centre and community service, the ultramodern building gives an impression of being one huge centre of knowledge and culture, with an expected attendance of at least 1 million users per year.
Dokk1 offers the possibility of new experiences, empathy, learning, activity, rest and contemplation. You can borrow books and other media, study, attend lectures, participate in events and interact with analogue and digital offerings. The community service offers you services such as picking up your new passport, driving license or receiving instructions on self-operated services. At the same time, you have the opportunity of outdoor activities in an urban environment, which serves as a covered urban landscape.
The fully automatic parking system below Dokk1, which currently is the only one of its kind in northern Europe, ensures safe parking of your car. The parking system is for everyone, including non-visitors to the library. Try it for fun the next time you visit Aarhus.
Our sister company Lammhults Biblioteksdesign A/S has delivered the majority of the furniture for the library in Dokk1 - both standard and customized solutions. The building's architecture is designed both inside and outside as a maritime cruiser - the interior, decor and furniture reflects this design. As there was a demand to use as few types of furniture as possible in the new library, a fusion between our well known Ordrup and Frontline Square occurred – and Ordrup Square was created.

At biblioteket i Dokk1 tilhører verdensklassen er du ikke i tvivl om, når du træder ind gennem døren og ind i det futuristiske miljø. Og da huset er en integreret biblioteks-, multimedie- og borgerservicebygning, fremtræder hele den supermoderne bygning som et stort videns- og kulturcenter, med et forventet besøgstal på mindst 1 million brugere om året.
I Dokk1 er der mulighed for oplevelse, indlevelse, læring, aktivitet, ro og fordybelse. Du kan låne bøger og andre medier, studere, høre foredrag, deltage i begivenheder og interagere med analoge og digitale tilbud. I Borgerservice kan du hente dit nye pas, kørekort eller få vejledning til selvbetjente services, og samtidigt har du på de omkringliggende havnearealer mulighed for et aktivt udeophold i urbane omgivelser, som fungerer som et overdækket bylandskab.
Under Dokk1 sørger det fuldautomatisk parkeringssystem, der pt. er det eneste af sin art i Nordeuropa, for sikker parkering af din bil. Parkeringssystemet er for alle, også ikke-besøgende til biblioteket, så prøv det for din fornøjelses skyld næste gang du kommer til Aarhus.
Lammhults Biblioteksdesign A/S har leveret størsteparten af inventaret til biblioteket i Dokk1, som både standard- og specialløsninger. Bygningens arkitektur er ude og inde designet som en maritim cruiser. Indearealerne, indretningen og inventaret understreger dette. Der har været et ønske om at benytte så få møbeltyper som muligt og derfor er der opstået nye fusionsmøbler som Ordrup Square – et mix af Ordrup og Frontline Square.
