Trip to Balaton Uplands 3. - Kirándulás a Balatonfelvidéken 3.
Badacsony
Badacsony is the name of a region on the north shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary, and a town in that region. The entire area is recognized for its wine, with vineyards dating back to Roman times. The nearby basalt mountains are unique geological relics, and the habitat of many rare plants and animals. These monadnocks are peculiarly shaped results of volcanic activity, formed during the end Pannonia. Visible from afar is the imposing 438 m high Badacsony, an example of a volcanic mountain with steep basalt sides and the characteristic flat top. From its top there`s a splendid panoramic view over the charming countryside with its vineyards and forests, the western Balaton and the Tapolca basin. Badacsony together with its fertile surroundings so reminiscent of Mediterranean regions, forms one of the most beautiful stretches of land on the banks of Lake Balaton.
Folly's Arboretum - Badacsonyörs
The collection, which contains mainly conifers, is found in the County of Veszprem, at Badacsonyörs, in the southern hillside of Kisörsi-hegy, near the lake Balaton. The arboretum's area is spread over 3,6 hectares. The botanical garden belongs to a strictly protected area of the National Park Balatonfelvidék. Visitors can observe a collection of 3 different age class composition of trees and shrubs, that were planted by three generations of the Folly family. The oldest species are around 90-100 years old.
Despite the small size of its area, there is more than 400 species, varieties, and cultivations of evergreens from different places in the world.
Festetics mansion - Keszthely
This is the most well-known and the most visited listed building in Keszthely. Kristóf Festetics started its construction in 1745. A decade later, it was added to and rebuilt, becoming a U-shaped single-storey building with 34 rooms. Around 1770, its floor space was doubled . Later György Festetics continued the reconstruction. The ornamental furnishing of the famous library was completed in 1801 and the chapel in 1804. At that time it was a two-storey mansion, richly decorated and luxuriously furnished. It was further enlarged by Tasziló Festetics between 1883 and 1887. During the significant reconstruction work, the interior furnishing was refurbished as well. The building received a uniform external decoration and the new building was attached to the old one with a tall tower. A few years later, the road in front of the mansion was moved further away and the ornamental fountain was created. Today, the greater part of the mansion is a museum. Besides its 90,000-volume library, 16 showrooms, a collection of old Hungarian weapons, the Windischgrätz collection of African trophies, there are temporary exhibitions. The area of the originally 42-hectare park has been reduced to 7.2 hectares.

I edited this video for the music by Pietro Mascagni Interlude from Cavalleria rusticana and Johann Sebastian Bach Brandenburg Concedrto No. 2. in F major, but because of the claims of the copyright owner I have to change the music for audio swap. I love the music by Dax Johnson: Zavior Dax, but it's a bit shorter than my video.

CITYRAMA Budapest - Magic Hungary
Tour description, images and online booking:
A magic combination: First explore Gödöllő Palace, the former summer residence of Queen Elisabeth and Francis Joseph, then enjoy a traditional horse show and a carriage ride.
The Royal Palace of Gödöllő is located just 30 minutes outside of Budapest. It is one of the largest palaces in the country and is a significant work of Hungarian Baroque architecture. The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy's ruling couple, Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Queen Elizabeth (known as Sisi) frequently stayed here.
After the guided tour through the Gödöllő Palace we drive to a traditional farm where you will be welcomed with a Hungarian delicacy pogácsa and the national welcome drink, pálinka. Followed by a carriage ride you can enjoy a traditional horse with breathtaking stunts before we return to Budapest. The tour ends in the city centre.

War damaged railways outside Amsterdam.
I discovered this ancient Album many years ago and it has sat sadly in my collection of Railway books.
Today it rained all day so at last my (I will upload them on a rainy day) came true.
I just want to share them with someone who may live in the area today and possibly send the original
collection to a local museum!
