Part 166 - Cycling the 3030m Dolon Pass - World Cycle Tour - 2018
Wednesday 29th August. The 3030m Dolon Pass and downhill to Kochkor. Today we enjoyed a day cycling on the very smooth Chinese road over the Dolon Pass and down to Kochkor. An easy day compared to the previous days on rough dirt tracks. We also found a restaurant for lunch and found the first mobile internet coverage for the past five days. We then descended to Kochkor and are now staying in a guest house that was recommended to us by an American couple we met in the restaurant at lunchtime. During evening dinner we were lucky to experience a small group of girls playing national music of Kyrgyzstan. Just another wonderful experience that we never anticipated.
Driving up the Dolon Pass(3030 meters or 9940 feet above sea level)
Dolon Pass is the highest pass along Bishkek-Torugart highway, and is located in Naryn region. Road is unpaved and very uneven, and can be hazardous after a snow, making it slippery. The road is full of 18 wheelers traveling from China with cargo to Bishkek.
