Akaroa Dolphins | Close relationship with NZ Whale & Dolphin Trust
The New Zealand Whale & Dolphin Trust does a lot of scientific background research which Akaroa Dolphins supports. The trust also funds numerous amount of PhD students' research.
The work of these PhD students is often about looking at the effect of tourism on the dolphins. This feedback is extremely helpful for Akaroa Dolphins.
Akaroa Dolphins believes it is very important to look after future generations of the hector dolphins and other wildlife in Akaroa Harbour.

Akaroa Dolphins | Humpback whales & Hector's dolphins
We caught up with our first migrating humpback whales for the season yesterday, and both the whales and dolphins put on quite a show! Thanks to our guide Nat Stuart for taking this awesome footage.
Please note as part of the New Zealand Marine Mammal Protection Regulations, we would like to remind anyone that sees whales whilst out on the water, that a distance of 50m from these animals is required to be observed. In the event that a whale may approach you, please manoeuvre your vessel to the safe distance, and if not possible, stop your vessel and cut the engines. See link for further information -

Playful Humpback Whales On Film. Akaroa Harbour, New Zealand July 2016
As an eco-tourism operator in Akaroa who for the longest time has spent decades taking customers out everyday to view the worlds rarest and smallest dolphin the Hector's dolphin (also known as New Zealand dolphin as they are only found in our waters) we must say that we too gasp with joy when we have the opportunity to spot a whale or two. On occasion we will have pods of Orca pass by and during the winter if we are very lucky we may see a humpback whale or two as the migrate past New Zealand from Antarctica in search of warmer shores for breeding. This July we have been lucky enough to witness 10 sightings on our daily Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruise trips....and boy have they been playful. Our skipper Julian captured this exclusive footage for us to share with you. He's been working the seas for 18 years and this July has provided him with the best sightings he has ever had during his whole career. If you love the footage pop over to our website for more images.....best wishes, team Black Cat Cruises, Akaroa, New Zealand

Orcas, seals AND swimming with dolphins in Kaikoura | REBELZ LOG 40
Kaikoura is the perfect place in New Zealand to spot wildlife. The first day we hopped on a boat ride with Dolphin Encounter Kaikoura. After a couple minutes we got extremely lucky and saw a family of orcas!! So unique. Best day ever. After that we spotted the Dusky Dolphins, geared up and jumped in the water to swim with them. What a day.. The day after we went for a chill walk to the seal colony on the peninsula and checked out the seals that are living over there. Enjoy!
