Whale Watching in Mirissa Sri Lanka
The sea of Mirissa is the place where you can see whales and dolphins while travelling in Sri Lanka. Many sightings have been reported in November to April in the year.
Many pygmy blue whales can be seen at Dondra point in Sri Lanka. You can access it through the Mirissa Harbour or Weligama Harbour. Whale watching tours can be arranged via many in Sri Lanka.

Dolphin Watching Kalpitiya Sri Lanka
Kalpitiya is one of the best place for dolphin watching in Sri Lanka. You can observer huge No of dolphins, even thousands at once, in their natural habitat.
Watching the wonderful dolphins swimming together with and diving under your boat, riding waves in perfect synchronization and twirling and leaping out of the water in a joyous display, is a unforgettable experience and one that will be cherished for years to come.

TRINCOMALEE - SNORKELLING AT PIGEON ISLAND & Dolphin & Whale Watching | Sri Lanka Vlog 2
Trincomalee on Sri Lanka's East Coast is a really unique place to visit! I stayed for 2 nights in Uppuveli instead of Nilaveli as I heard the beach is nicer and it's quieter and I found it to have a nice beach and be very quiet!
One of the most popular things to do in Trincomalee is to go Whale Watching, it wasn't the season for Whale sightings as the main season is February to April however I was told there were Dolphins around so I went on a sunrise Dolphin watching trip, to my delight I did see the spray of a whale although I didn't see it properly!
Later that day I headed to Pigeon island in Trincomalee, this is another popular activity in Trincomalee because the snorkelling around here is good. Although it was really busy with lots of boats and tourists there I did see turtles and a shark which was amazing!
This was a really good way to spend one day in Trincomalee and Uppuveli!
I only stayed 2 nights in Trincomalee as I found it pretty quiet and the weather wasn't great and afterwards I headed to Arugam Bay!

Sri Lanka activities | Whale and dolphin watching
Red Dot Tours' short video about whale and dolphin watching off the coasts of Sri Lanka is one of a group of videos that aim to promote some of the varied activity and adventure pursuits that can form part of an exciting Sri Lanka holiday.
We also strongly support good practice when it comes to whale and dolphin watching, to ensure that these pleasures can be enjoyed for centuries to come.
The videos have been a lot of fun and encapsulate our belief that travel companies can become deeply immersed in the country they sell - and still offer great value for money.
Red Dot's staff are based in Colombo and know Sri Lanka intimately. We specialize in holidays to Sri Lanka, ranging from full island tours to a night or two in your favourite hotel, all designed and overseen by a skilled and dedicated staff in our main office in Colombo.
Red Dot can also offer instant online booking at highly attractive rates for a growing number of our 400 properties - and it comes with a personal consultant and full after-sales service whilst you are in Sri Lanka. We call it Instant Booking With Style.
We hope you like the videos which seek to promote some of the special character of this beautiful island.

Dolphin & Whale Watching Sri Lankan
Sri Lanka is becoming a major spot for watching Dolphins and Whales.
Major spots Dondra Point / Mirissa / Kalpitiya.
Sri Lanka is situated within international whaling commission's protected zone in the Indian Ocean. Whale and dolphin watching is a seasonal activity in Sri Lanka, available on the west coast in locations from Kalpitiya and along the South West Coast from November to March while the East Coast off Trincomalee is preferable from June to September.
A high concentration of blue whales and sperm whales has been spotted in the seas off Dondra Head along the deep south coast of Sri Lanka during the months of January to April. Alankuda beach in Kalpitiya is the best places if you are interested in seeing dolphins. During November to March is the best season to go Dolphin Watching off Kalpitiya. Whale and Dolphin watching is also possible during June to September off the eastern shores such as Trincomalee .
The south coast of Sri Lanka is one of the very best places to see Blue Whales in the entire world. Most of these Blue Whales are on migration, en-route from their North East monsoon feeding grounds off Trincomalee to their South West monsoon feeding grounds in the Arabian Sea.
Sperm Whales are also present with pods. While most Blue Whales can be seen over the continental shelf, Sperm Whales tended to occur a bit further offshore, in the shipping lanes. And this gives a clue as to why there are so many whales here. A glance at any chart of the Indian Ocean shows that Dondra Head is the southern-most point not only of Sri Lanka, but also of the entire Indian subcontinent. Any ship wanting to pass between east and west has to pass by Dondra. Furthermore, off Dondra the continental slope comes to within less than 3 nautical miles of the coast. With the seasonally changing monsoon currents producing seasonally changing blooms of plankton; with the land masses of India and Sri Lanka acting like an inverted funnel to channel cetacean movements; and with deep water so close to shore, it is perhaps not surprising that the southern tip of Sri Lanka is such a cetacean hotspot.

Whale Watching in Mirissa, Sri Lanka // WE SAW A BLUE WHALE!
Whale watching in Mirissa was by far one of the most incredible activities I did while in Sri Lanka.
I've done whale watching in South Africa before but this trip was much better as we saw SO MANY WHALES! From pilot whales to two massive blue whales, biggest mammals on earth, even bigger than our boat. It was a truly exciting whale watching trip and is also super cheap at only $30 per person.

Sri Lanka - Part 1 | Bentota, Galle, Unawatuna, Whale watching! | Sri Lanka Vlog #1
We fly into Sri Lanka from India for a holiday within a holiday. Visiting lots of beaches along the West and South coast and visiting Galle. We also went whale watching & spotted lots of spinner dolphins and a blue whale which was both wonderful and also slightly upsetting for the whale.
Whale Watching in Sri Lanka: The Search for a Blue Whale
Mirissa, Sri Lanka is a popular spot to go whale watching. We headed out into the Indian Ocean with the goal of seeing the largest animal in the entire world - a blue whale. There are only a few places in the world where you can see this incredible record breaking mammal. If you are in Sri Lanka, you shouldn’t miss this tour. It’s possible to see mink whales, sperm whales, dolphins, whale sharks, turtles, flying fish, and more. In this part of the world, the ocean is filled with amazing marine life.
There are a huge amount of whale watching tours in Mirissa. We went with Whale Watching with Geeth, and we weren’t disappointed. I’m sure most of them are similar, but I recommend talking to the actual person who will be running the tour to make sure they speak good English. Most tours will feed you a small breakfast and take care of transportation from your hotel to the boat in the morning. The cost is usually 6000-6500 LKR.
New videos are posted every Tuesday and Thursday at 3PM EST.
