Huge pod of dolphins filmed off the coast of Cornwall
ncredible amateur footage captured a pod of wild dolphins in a playful mood off the coast of Cornwall.
The group of stunning porpoises were filmed bursting from the water and swimming alongside the hull of the catamaran as they trailed it through the choppy waters.
The video was captured by Chris Lowe on a boat charted by the Cornwall Seal Group as its members conducted a seal survey.
But minutes after they set off on the catamaran, they saw the huge pod of over 100 dolphins loitering a short distance from the shore.
When the graceful aquatic predators noticed the boat they raced over to swim in front of the ship's twin hulls.
When it later stopped, the dolphins hung around and were seen squeaking excitedly at each other in the water.
Annabelle Lowe, 49, owner of Newquay Sea Safaris and Fishing, which chartered the boat, said: We do get gatherings like that.
There were just over a 100 common dolphins, sometimes we get over 1,000.
Usually we see these super-pods later in the summer.
The interesting thing was the vocalisation, you could hear them talking.
It was amazing to hear their shrill cries, they were communicating very excitedly with each other.
We usually her squeaks and clicks, but because they were at the surface we could hear it really well.
It was great to hear them communicate with that level of excitement.
I think they might have been getting jiggy.
