The Wine Zen Tasting Dominique Portet Rose 2012
Dominique Portet Rose 2012 Victoria.(Grenache, Mouvedre and Sangiovese) Nose: 6 + Taste:8 + Body:8 + Balance: 8 + Finish:9 . Total Score 50 + 39 = 89pts.
Deceptively stealthy nose hides a brooding tropical punch of fruit with starfruit in the lead leading to red and black fruits on the palate. All packed in a muscular frame and yetmanages to balance off its acidity, fruit and light tannin really well. Runs off on a 40 second shift time finish. Great wine by itself or with spicy charcoal grilled ray fish. The kind you get at the hawker centers in Malaysia. Yummy!

Interview with Dominique Portet - 10th Generation Wine Makers
This was filmed for a Chez Olivier - Francofiles, a TV Pilot developed by Olivier - famous for his Chez Olivier restaurant on Greville Street, Melbourne. A terrific show all about the best of French in Australia. I loved researching, filming this interview with Dominique and his family team of wine makers. A wonderful film crew to work with - Bruno and Hannah a very experienced team. Of course, the Dominique Portet label wine was the absolute delight - the cherry - or in this instance grape- on top. Merci beaucoup.
The family vinyard which is based in the Yarra Valley in 2009 released a 2006 wine named Andrè celebrating 10 Years of the Portet family's Winemaking. Andrè Portet hailed from a winemaking pedigree recorded to 1698 and became règisseur of one of the most esteemed Chateau's of Pauillac, Bordeaux.
The Wine Zen listening to Dominique Portet speaking about his wines at Aloft KL Sentral
Here is the man who went halfway around the world so that he could make wine without worrying about centuries old rules and regulation. And we are all glad he did.
Fascinating story of his wines.
Let's Taste - Coldstream Hills 2004 Reserve wines
My first real wine job was working in the cellar door at Domaine Chandon in the Yarra Valley, which I did for 18 months from the beginning of 2006. One of my colleagues there lived at Coldstream Hills as her partner was one of the winemakers. She very generously put together a mixed dozen of back vintages of their Reserve wines, many of which are still in my cellar. I decided to open the three wines from the 2004 vintage (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Cabernet Sauvignon), and these are my impressions. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

WineWeek 218: Brought to you by the letter C.
This week the theme is all about the letter C. We start with Mount Langhi Ghiran's mid priced Cliff Edge shiraz, a beautiful cool climate red from 2006.
We then take a look at a Chardonnay from Coldstream Hills that sees just the right amount of oak for a young, drink now white.
To finish we check out a 2007 Cabernet from Mildara that shows that Coonawarra Cabernets from 2007 weren't all hard work.
Let's Taste - Coldstream Hills Reserve Pinot Noir 2002
Back when I worked in the cellar door at Domaine Chandon in the Yarra Valley, one of my colleagues lived at Coldstream Hills as her partner was one of the winemakers. She was kind enough to put together a mixed dozen of reserve wines of various vintages, some of which are still in my cellar. I thought it was about time to open this bottle, the Reserve Pinot Noir 2002. What are your thoughts, do you agree? Let me know in the comments.

Australia is one of the world’s top wine producers and Yara Valley has over 80 wineries and get place to go on wine tour. I went to Napoleon Brewery And Cider, Dominique Portet Winery, Rochford Winery and Killara Estate.
By the time I was done I was pretty toasted but best of all, we got sample wine at Killara while watching Kangaroos that passed through the winery
