DON DET & DON KHON I 4000 ISLANDS LAOS TRAVEL VIDEO
We just finished our first year of traveling! Check out our highlights from this adventure: One Year Of Traveling In 2 Minutes I Travel Cinematic Video
--~--
Don Det is for chilling! When we were visiting Don Det & Don Khon we found out very fast that it's relaxed there. Renting a bike for 1€, bungalows for 8€ was really nice surprise. If you go visit Don Khon you can see some waterfall - Somphamit waterfalls. If you have some extra time you should also go to see the river dolphins.
4000 Islands are definitely the most relaxed place in Laos

Mekong & Don Khon (Laos)
(EN) Khong Island or Don Khong is the largest island and the seat of administration in the Si Phan Don riverine archipelago located in the Mekong River, Khong District, Champasak Province, southern Laos.
The island is 18 kilometres (11 mi) long (north-south), and 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) at its widest point. It has a population of approximately 55,000, mainly concentrated in the two villages Muang Saen (west) and Muang Khong (east); the latter is the de facto capital of the island as well as the regional seat of government. The former President of Laos, Khamtai Siphandon has a residence on the island, which is a possible explanation for the high-quality of infrastructure, such as asphalted roads and electricity, on Khong Island. Locals tend to travel on longtail boats.
Khong Island is noted for its natural beauty and is a growing tourist destination. Many tourists combine their visit to the island with a visit to nearby Don Det and Don Khon islands, where it is possible to view the Khone Phapheng Falls.

4000 Islands | Visiting Don Det & Don Khon | Laos
From Pakse we travelled to 4000 Islands (akaSi Phan Don) on the Mekong River. This is a MASSIVE archipelago full of small and even smaller islands. This is a place to mainly relax, maybe go see Irrawaddy Dolphins (if you're lucky) and not much else! So we spent a relaxing 2 days exploring just 2 of the slightly bigger islands here on the Mekong.

The ONLY reason to visit 4000 Islands | Laos - Don Det & Don Khon
Good thing, we found out the real and only reason to visit the 4000 Islands of Laos. Once we reached Lao after crossing the border by bus and on foot, I got sick. In this episode of the vlog you'll get some information on what to do on Don Det and Don Khon plus how the border crossing from Cambodia to Laos works and what I've lately been struggling with.

Trip from Don Det to Don Khon by motorbike sidecar. Along the sun rise side of Don Det over the French bridge to the waterfall on Don Khon. Then back to the Ba Ba Guest House and chill out on the balcony and watch the world go by. Then an Indian meal at a sun set side restaurant....Laos
KAYAKING 4000 ISLANDS @ Don Det w/Khone Phapheng FALLS + DOLPHINS (Budget Travel Laos){Don Det Laos}
Budget Travel Laos #2
Kayaking 4000 Islands sounds like hard work. Fortunately, not all the islands were scheduled for this one-day journey.
On the island of Don Det, Laos, near the border of Cambodia and Laos, economical kayaking day trips explore the local waterways, wildlife and rural communities. When weaving through the calm waters, highlights include the Mekong Dolphins and Khone Phapheng Waterfalls, the largest waterfalls in Asia and one of the largest waterfalls in the world.
For only $20, including two light meals, transportation and park entrance fees, without question Matt gets his money's worth on this excursion.

Four Thousand Islands ( Si Phan Don ) - Don Khon - Don Det - Khone Phapheng Falls - Laos - 18/18
The Si Phan Don (Lao: ສີ່ພັນດອນ; meaning 4000 islands) is a riverine archipelago in the Mekong River, Champasak Province in southern Laos.
Si Phan Don is part of the Khong District (that includes the islands and a part of the mainland in the east).
Si Phan Don is characterised by numerous islands, half of which are submerged when the Mekong River is in flood.
The principal islands of Si Phan Don are Don Khong (the largest), Don Som (the second largest), Don Det and Don Khon.
Si Phan Don is bordering Cambodia and historical and cultural ties link the people on both side of the border. Pakse is the closest of the bigger cities in Laos to the area.
Key features of the Si Phan Don archipelago include:
The remains of the first railway in Laos, the Don Det – Don Khon narrow gauge railway, built by the French to bypass the Khone Phapheng Falls and enable vessels, freight and passengers to travel along the Mekong River.
Freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins (Pakha) that can be viewed by boat off Don Khon island. They are considered highly endangered.
The Khone Phapheng Falls, a succession of impassable raging rapids that gave rise to the construction of the railway.

Don Det is the most popular and most lively island in the river archipelago. If typical backpackers come to the 4000 islands, this is their preferred island. If you are searching for bungalows overlooking the Mekong and a place to soak up the sun with a frenzy of other gap-year backpackers, you might love Don Det.
MAMADAM - Don Khon
Mamadam from Don Khon moved to the island on 2005. She is running a little restaurant and does a bit of farming. Don Khon is one of the 4.000 islands on Mekong river in Laos. Date of shot: August 2010. Place of shot: Don Khon. Language: English.
LOST IN LAOS: HOW I GOT LOST ON DON KHONE ISLAND
This was originally supposed to be a vlog of the 4000 Islands region of Laos but while out on my bicycle on Don Khone Island, I got lost in the dense forest. Seriously lost. But then after meeting some other lost tourists, we found our way out and managed to make it to see the waterfall that I was looking for, Khon Pa Soi Falls! Enjoy!
