STORYLINE:
Parts of Bethlehem were in flames on Wednesday morning after a night of heavy gunbattles continued into the day.
The Paradise Hotel, which is on the borderline between two zones, known locally as Area A (Palestinian-controlled territory) and Area C (under full Israeli control), and a parade of shops underneath was ablaze.
Israeli bulldozers were at the scene, protected by tanks, trying to tackle the fire as a heavy gunbattle raged around them.
Israeli Armoured Personnel Carriers patrolled the streets firing their heavy machine guns as Palestinian gunmen sniped from the surrounding alleyways and streets.
