Iron Blow Lookout, Queenstown, Tasmania
It was a very windy day and the drone wobbled quite a bit in one or two places as we struggled to keep it from falling at a great height. An aerial view over Iron Blow Lookout, Queesnstown, Tasmania. Views of the Linda Valley and Lake Burbery.

Nearly Time For An Upgrade - Landscape Photography in Tasmania - Day 6
Like most days beforehand, day 6 began with rain. Not to be deterred, I hiked up to a lookout on top of Donaghys Hill to take in the 360-degree view of the surrounding area... and what a view it was as the light broke through the rain and clouds to illuminate the snowy mountain peaks in the distance and vibrant green valleys and hills below.

Yukon Tours , Huon Tasmania
The Yukon is a tall ship originally salvaged and renovated in Denmark then sailed to Tasmania where it finds its home at the historic village of Franklin. Dave and Ea offer marvelous tours of the Huon and Channel regions of Southern Tasmania. Their Cook Jacinta offers 5-6 course of gourmet food sourced form local produce. In this video musicians Steve and Marjorie Gadd performed for guest and for fellow musicians and the crew.

Touring CENTRAL TASMANIA - Thousand Lakes | Mount Field National Park
This is the fourth video in our Tasmanian series. We start in Queenstown, a city with a rich mining history. We visit the Spionkopf Lookout, Horsetail Falls, Iron Blow Lookout, Nelson Falls, Donaghys Hill Lookout and Franklin River on our way to the geometrical centre of Tasmania, in Tarraleah. We then explore the Thousand Lakes region and take in some stunning views over Great Lake, Tasmania's largest lake. We stay overnight in the region in the Thousand Lakes Lodge, which we highly recommended. We then make our way to Mount Field National Park. This is one of Tasmania's most beautiful national parks, with sights such as Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls and the Tall Trees Walk. The next part will be about Hobart, so stay tuned for that video next week.

Paddy Dawson Stepdances
The late Paddy Dawson of Franklin, Tasmania, demonstrates his stepdancing. This is the only example of stepdancing from a traditional performer I have ever filmed.
The Dawson family of Franklin have been recorded extensively by both the National Library of Australia and other individuals in Tasmania. This sequence was shot on a couple of visits to the Dawsons, (Edie and Paddy), the first in their home (apologies for shaky footage - a bit crowded) and the second in the Franklin Hall where in the company of Peter Ellis and a keen group of Tasmanian dancers (big thanks!) we reconstructed many of the 'lost' dances of Tasmania.
Paddy was well in to his eighties when we filmed and although he was very enthusiastic we had to take in to consideration his age and fitness. The sequence in the Franklin Hall best demonstrates elements of his style even though he noticeably tires toward the end. Many thanks to the Dawson family for their contribution to the preservation of Tasmania's folklore and heritage.
Camping and 4wding at the beautiful Henty River Western Tasmania
A sandy 4wd track branching off the Henty road near Strahan leads to a serene camping spot on the Henty River Estuary. We took our boat down to Ocean Beach to enjoy the sunset on a perfect summer afternoon. The return trip requires negotiating a rutted sandy hill climb which we had to winch ourselves up.

John Meredith folklore films:
In the late 1980s and early '90s John Meredith wanted to try a different approach to folklore field collecting. Instead of just an audio recording he thought it would be useful to have a visual record of the music being collected. He was working with very limited resources, but convinced the NFSA to support his work by supplying and paying for the developing costs of rolls of Super8 film. Working with Rob Willis, Chris Woodland and others over a few years he recorded and filmed the last generation of singers and old-time dance musicians in NSW and Victoria. These films are a very special glimpse into an era now past. Our thanks to Rob Willis, Parrot Pictures and the families of the musicians recorded for their support.
The Dawsons of Swamp Rd, Franklin, Tasmania: Edie, Paddy, Ivy and George
Recorded by John Meredith in March 1986, second camera Janine King
John Meredith heard a recording made by the Dawson's previous neighbours and he recognized their unusual songs and unusual playing styles and lost no time in paying them a visit.
Note: Sound quality is variable
