...ABOUT US...
Hi, we are Erin and Francis, aka the Honeymooners! We are a couple travelling the world for a year on our honeymoon.
In 2016 we travelled throughout South East Asia, and trekked all over the Himalayas of Nepal. We documented the entire trip on our GoPro for our family and friends, but decided to post it all onto YouTube just for a bit of fun as well.
We are newlyweds, happily married since June 2019, and are now living out our dream goal we have had since our last overseas trip, of travelling the world for an entire year on our honeymoon. We have worked so hard towards this goal and want to document the entire journey with you all, so you can join us as we leave our footprints all over this beautiful world.
The world we live in is so diverse and rich with culture, yet the more we travel and the more people we meet along the way, we realise that people share so many similarities no matter what their background is. We love showing these similarities while expressing their cultural differences and hope to capture those moments and show the world.

Dongdaemun Market or Tongdaemun (abbreviated DDM) is a large commercial district in Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea.[1] With traditional markets and shopping centers, it is a popular shopping and tourist destination that has been designated a 'Special Tourism Zone' (관광특구) since 2002.[2]
Dongdaemun Market is near Dongdaemun from which it takes its name. The market is divided into five shopping districts—A, B, C, D and a shopping town,[4] with 26 shopping malls over 10 blocks, 30,000 speciality shops, and 50,000 manufacturers.
The market sells all types of goods but notably silks and fabric, clothes, shoes and leather goods, sporting goods, plumbing and electronics, office supplies, fortune tellers, toys and food areas specialising in Korean cuisine. It also has many pet shops.[5] It is on the Seoul list of 'Asia's 10 greatest street food cities' for the Korean snack Sundae and mandu.[6]
DDM was traditionally a night market and wholesalers once operated from 1:00 am to 1:00 pm. Now, the area is open for 18-½ hours a day from 10:30 am to 5:00 am, with some stores open 24 hours a day, although most close on Sundays and holidays.[5]
Malls
Retail shops
The main street divides Dongdaemun Market into two sections. Section 1 is on the side where Doosan Tower is found, and Section 2 is on the side of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park, the old site of Dongdaemun Stadium. Huge shopping malls in Section 1 basically sell wholesale and retail goods, but mostly deal with general customers and tourists at retail prices. They have facilities like money exchanges and information desks with English-speaking staff. Opening hours are aimed at general customers, from 10 am to 5 am the next day. Major shopping malls are Doosan Tower, Migliore, Freya Town and Hello apM.[7]
Wholesale shops
Shopping malls in Section 2 sell goods in wholesale and retail, but mainly sell in bulk. Malls here usually open at about 8 pm and close at 8 am or 5 pm the next day. The peak time comes late at night through early morning. Since most shops deal with wholesalers, there are no dressing rooms. Major shopping malls in Section 2 are Designer's Club, Migliore Valley, Nuzzon, Gwanghee Fashion Mall, Jeil Pyeonghwa, and Heungin Stardom. Among them, Jeil Pyeonghwa and Heungin Stardom attract customers in their thirties and forties. Teens and youth in their twenties usually visit Designer's Club, Migliore Valley, Nuzzon and Gwanghee Fashion Mall.

Myeong-dong Market, Seoul, South Korea
While Myeong-dong Market is a place to see as a tourist, do not expect to find the same shopping experience as you would in Gangnam's underground shopping district. Myeong-dong caters to the Japanese and Chinese tourist who is happy to pay more for fake brand named products. Fake bags US$160, T-shirts $18, Collared shirts $30, Belts $15. Not bad prices overall but are very high for a market that used to sell the same sort of items at a quarter of the price they are now.

SEOUL'S TOP 5 BEST FOOD MARKETS - South Korea ???????? 2018
If you're planning on visiting Seoul and you love markets, food, and the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then you need to check out this video.
I've been going to some of these markets since the 80's and 90's with my Korean relatives, so these places hold sentimental value for me. Besides being just great markets, they're also loaded with tons of food!
TONGIN MARKET (통인시장)
ADDRESS: 8, Jahamun-ro 15-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 종로구 자하문로15길 18 (통인동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Market is open weekdays 09:00 to 18:00, Saturdays 09:00 to 13:00. Closed on Sundays & holidays.
The Doshirak Cafe closes at 16:00.
Tongin Market was built in 1941 for the Japanese residents that lived around there during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Now it's a small traditional market, with a unique way to experience the market: using Yeobjeon, the traditional brass coins, to fill up your Doshirak lunch tray.
A bundle of 10 coins goes for 5,000 Won. Most dishes cost 2 coins, some small items are only 1 coin. The vendors will have the cost of items listed at their shops.
When you're ready to eat, go to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Doshirak Cafe, located in the center of the market. They provide free utensils, water, and napkins. You can also buy a bowl of rice and/or soup, for 2 coins each.
GYEONGDONG MARKET (경동시장)
ADDRESS:147, Wangsan-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 동대문구 왕산로 147 (제기동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Herbal Medicine Market 09:00-19:00
Traditional Market 04:00-19:00 (varies by store)
This market is one of the largest markets in Seoul, dating back to right after the Korean War when many of the countryside farmers would gather in the city to sell their produce.
This place is huge, and is equivalent to the size of 5 World Cup soccer stadiums.
You can buy any type of food here: vegetables, fruits, all types of meats, seafood, etc. This place is great for grocery shopping for cheap!
There's also the Herbal Medicine Market, which is the largest herbal market in all of South Korea. You can find all types of Hankyak (한약), which is traditional Korean medicine, here.
GWANGJANG MARKET (광장시장)
ADDRESS: 88, Changgyeonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 종로구 창경궁로 88 (예지동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: General stores 08:30-18:00, Restaurants 08:30-23:00.
Most of the market is closed on Sundays, but lots of the street food vendors will still be open.
Gwangjang Market is a textiles and fabric market, that just so happens to house one of the largest traditional Korean street food areas in the city. You can fulfill all your traditional Korean street food fantasies here: tons of tteokbokki, bibimbap, the famous narcotic kimbap, bindaetteok, fried foods, etc.
The market is also famous for Yukhoe (육회), which is essentially Korean raw beef tartare. It's strips of fresh beef, mixed with egg yolk, sesame oil, on top a bed of sliced Asian pears. Mix it all together and enjoy!
NAMDAEMUN MARKET (남대문시장)
ADDRESS: 21, Namdaemunsijang 4-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 중구 남대문시장4길 21 (남창동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Everyday, with a short break between 5pm ~ 10pm for the overnight vendors. I recommend mid-morning or early-afternoon.
Namdaemun Market is the largest traditional Korean market still in operation in the entire country! There are over 10,000 individual vendors!
Make sure to visit the Noodle Alley and Hairtail fish Alley and you MUST TRY the yachae hotteok or ggul hotteok snacks at Gate 2 on the north side of the market.
MAJANG MEAT MARKET (마장 축산물시장)
ADDRESS: 40, Majang-ro 31-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 성동구 마장로31길 40 (마장동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Weekdays 03:00-23:00, closed every first and third Sunday of the month.
Majang Meat Market is the best place to buy Hanwoo beef, as well as other types of meats. It's roughly 30% cheaper here than anywhere else!
Make sure to eat some BBQ at the BBQ alley at the north entrance (click map link to see that entrance location).
I hope that you found this list of the Top 5 Best Food Markets in Seoul very helpful! If you did, leave a comment, subscribe, and thanks for watching!

Best Korea Street Food in Seoul, Dongdaemun Food Market by Night
Tteokbokki or Ddeobokki or Korean spicy rice cakes are one of the most popular dish that you can buy at nearly every snack bars or street stall around Seoul . It has a thick, blazing hot sauce and the cakes are long, white and cylinder-shaped. The most common form of Tteokbokki is usually the combination of fish cakes, boiled eggs, and scallions
Odeng, or Korean fish cake, is fish paste seasoned and mixed with starch, flour, rice wine, and other spices. Odeng served with warm, tasty broth is the most popular form. It’s extremely tasty, especially when paired with mustard and ketchup.
Dakkochi or grilled chicken skewers. Pieces of tender chicken marinated and glazed with a plethora of sauces before grilling. Despite having great flavor on their own, Dakkochi is still best when paired with Korea’s many kinds of spicy sauces.
Tokkebi is a deep-fried hot dog covered with french fried bits.
Soondae is the Korean street food version of blood sausage. It’s truly a delicacy. Some may think that the idea of eating pork blood is disgusting, but the dish is the favorite of many people. They mix it with glass noodle or sticky rice and then the sausage will be either steamed or boiled.
Gimbap or Kimbap is made from cooked rice and other ingredients rolled in sheets of dried laver seaweed. The filling may also include cheese, squid, carrot, egg, tuna… with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. People often slice the roll into bite-sized pieces before serving. Some may think that Gimbap is similar to a sushi roll, but they’re very distinctive in their own ways. Rice in a sushi roll is often mixed with vinegar, while Gimbap’s rice will be mixed with sesame oil. Another difference is the filling, sushi roll will have fresh filling such as seafood, mushroom… and Gimbap’s fillings are cooked.
