Taiwanese Breakfast in Taipei, Taiwan
When it comes to breakfast in Taipei, Taiwan it is taken very seriously. Waking up before sunrise we headed over to Fu Hang Dou Jiang (阜杭豆漿) to stand in line with the crowds before placing an order of deep-fried dough stick (Youtiao - 油條 - 油条),
sandwich with an omelet (Shao Bing - 燒餅 - 烧饼) and soybean milk (Dou Jiang - 豆漿). The one we really wanted to try but didn't order was Dan Bing (蛋餅). Come find out what the breakfast fuss is all about in Taipei (臺北市).
Directions to Fu Hang Dou Jiang (阜杭豆漿):
100, Taiwan, Taipei City, Zhongzheng District, Section 1, Zhongxiao E Rd, 108號
(Get off at Shandao Temple Station (善導寺站) and take exit 5)

Taiwanese Breakfast in Taipei, Taiwan Travel Food Video Transcript:
Alright guys. We are up before the sun today and it is for a really good reason. We've been hearing about Taiwanese breakfast at this one particular spot and we're going to go check it out. The MRT just opened and now it is time to go. Yes, apparently this restaurant opens at five thirty in the morning but the MRT didn't start running until 6 am so we had to wait. Now we can finally venture out.
Exit five. How excited are you for breakfast? Well now that I've actually finally woken up I'm quite excited. Ready to chow down. Chow down. Let's go.
So apparently we're not the only ones.
So we found the restaurant. It is called Fu Hang Dou Jiang (阜杭豆漿). Hopefully I am pronouncing that right. And we had to wait in line about twenty to thirty minutes and that was at six thirty in the morning.
And of course we have two bowls of soy milk because that is what they specialize in and that is called Dou Jiang (豆漿). One is hot and one is cold.
One is like piping hot. This one is like boiling so we're going to be sampling those. Let's have a look. So yeah, it is just soy milk. I've never drank milk with a spoon but that is a first.
So we asked for both of our soy milks to be sweetened so that is good.
Okay so we're going to break into the mystery roll. Yeah, so take a look down here. I'm just going to snap it in half. It feels dense I know there is definitely something inside.
Oh, woah. Oh it is super syrupy.
Okay. Woah. Maybe that wasn't the best idea. Haha.
Is it sweet?
It is very sweet.
So next up we're having what I believe is the Shao Bing (燒餅 - 烧饼) so it looks like a sandwich but it is basically a wheat cake and it is stuffed with egg. An omelette, chives. Yeah, it looks like a sandwich. Yeah.
This last one is either Yutiah or Youtiao (油條 - 油条) please let me know in the comments. We're butchering these names I'm sure pretty fiercely. Um, at first glance it kind of reminds me of a bit of a porras that we had in Spain. Like those giant sized kind of churros like things. Yeah.
And I have to say it is like super light in the hand. It looks a lot bigger than what it is. It is really flimsy and light. So I'm going to give that a try.
So it is like a deep-fried dough stick and all we need right now is that thick Spanish hot chocolate and we're set.
Oh. Okay. It tastes like a bit greasy and salty as opposed to being sweet.
So are you feeling ready to take on Taipei after that breakfast? Yeah, I've got my sugar high. I've got you know like my saltiness with the egg. So I'm ready to go. And in terms of price point that was a hundred and thirty five Taiwanese dollars so it worked out to just over two US dollars per person. So really cheap, really tasty food. And yeah, I can see why there is a big line. And the one thing I wish we could have tried was something I think called Dan Bing (蛋餅) which is basically a pancake with the omelet stuffed inside. We noticed some other people having that and we're like ooh that looked good. And I also saw people having some kind of porridge that I just didn't know the name of it. Yeah, anyways we ate enough. I mean we're full now but yeah there is other things to try though.
Yeah, so if you want to find this place straight out of exit five and here you've got the market. You just go down this way up to the second floor and you'll see the lines. Yeah, and don't forget to come early. Yeah.

Walking Around Taipei - Taiwan's Capital City [4K60]
This 4K walk takes us around Taipei which is the capital city of Taiwan. I start off in front of my hotel in the Zhongzheng district. I walk down to Peace Park, past the East Gate and into Liberty Square. From there I head over to the President Hall and up past the Ximen area to the North Gate and loop back to my hotel. I only got to spend a few days in Taipei but it's a fantastic city and it was great to be back as the last time I was here was over 10 years ago. I do have a few more videos from Taipei which I'll upload later on as well as some from Khaoshiung which is the second largest city in Taiwan located in the south end of the country. In case you were wondering the hotel I stayed at is the Relax 5 and as long as you don't mind the smallish rooms it represents excellent value in an ideal location.
4:03 - Zhongxiao West Road (main road - across from Taipei Main Station)
7:25 - Gonyuan Road
12:15 - Peace Park
15:53 - National Taiwan University Hospital

Day 1 TAIWAN - Din Tai Fung, Shifen, Jiufen & Shilin night market. Cool things to do in Taipei.
It's Day 1, we arrive in Taipei, Taiwan after a 16 hour flight and we have a packed itinerary, thanks to our very dear friend, Jennifer.. be sure to check out and subscribe to her Instagram @huantoo
First stop after a quick freshen up at her cozy apartment,
Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
a national monument, landmark and tourist attraction erected in memory of Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China. It is located in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan.
Second stop - Din Tai Fung
Known world-wide for their amazing xiaolongbao (小籠包 soup dumplings), Din Tai Fung is a very popular restaurant with many locations in Taiwan and abroad.
This is the Original Din Tai Fung Taipei, Taiwan and can be found on Xinyi Road in Taipei. The closest MRT to get you to the original Din Tai Fung is Dongmen Station (take exit 5)
Third stop - after a much needed quick power nap
Shifen Waterfall is a scenic waterfall located in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, on the upper reaches of the Keelung River. The falls' total height is 20 metres and 40 metres in width
Fourth stop - Located in the Pingxi area (平溪), Pingxi Old Street is a collection of shops and xiaochi snacks located nearby the Pingxi railway station.
The old street is unique in that it is built into a hill with a train track going overhead right through the middle with shops around selling local foods and gifts. Visitors are able to check out shops built during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as wooden houses built during the Japanese occupation era.
The area is especially well known for setting Chinese lanterns, and visitors are able to stand directly on and along the track to set their wish-covered lantern into the sky! Which we did ^^
Fifth stop - Jiufen
Feel spirited away in this decommissioned gold mining mountain town, originally built by the Japanese and now a maze of lanes and alleyways with rich history and culture.
Jiufen, also spelled Jioufen or Chiufen is a mountain area in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Sixth and final stop -Shilin Night Market is a night market in Shilin District, Taipei, Taiwan, and is often considered to be the largest and most famous night market in the city
And that's it, after a 16 hour flight and 19 hour day.. we call it a night.. see you on the next vlog guys, thanks for watching :-)

Day 1 of the ✈️ Travel ???????? Taiwan Series. Be part of the journey:
(Timestamps are below.)
00:15 Eating breakfast in Taipei in Zhongxiao Fuxing. The lady has a cart in which she serves up a breakfast item called fan tuan (or fantuan). She's typically there from 7am to 11am; off on weekends and sometimes when it's raining. If you'd like to take a visit and try some fan tuan, it's right next to Ten Ren's Tea in Zhongxiao E Road.
Here's the address to Ten Ren's Tea, in which you'll hopefully see the lady and her cart on the corner: No. 107號, Section 4, Zhongxiao E Rd, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
02:55 Heading to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Here's the address: No. 505, Section 4, Ren'ai Rd, Xinyi District, Taipei City, Taiwan 110) . The area was massive. One of the things I liked the most during my time there were the vast amount of scrolls that they had on display. It was also nice to see old and preserved Chinese books, documents, and alike.
07:30 Heading to Taipei 101. The great thing about Taipei 101 is the architecture and how it stands out. It's not the tallest skyscraper in the world (though it once was, from 2004 - 2010), but it's the tallest building throughout the entire vicinity -- and by a long shot. Because of that, Taipei 101 really captures a person's attention. Especially when you see it at Elephant Mountain. From that distance, the focus is entirely on 101, nothing else. And there's something about that which makes it very special. it looks as if Taipei 101 is the only tall building.
10:39 As for Din Tai Fung, the Xiaolongbao (or soup dumplings) are absolutely amazing. One of the things I like about this place is the fact that you're able to see how the chefs make the xiaolongbao. It's a work of art. Here's the thing, they're all working at a specific rythem to make it perfect, each time. And that's fascinating. The xiaolongbao's are great, no doubt. I only wish they came in a bigger size. That would be crazy!
13:10 The name of dumpling bun shop near Zhongxiao Fuxing Exit 2 is 老蔡水煎包 and they have another location in Zhongzheng, which is here: No. 26, Xuchang St, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100
Different from Din Tai Fung's xiaolongbao, the dumpling buns at this place don't have any soup inside. Instead, they're big buns stuffed with a type of filling, such as pork. It's then put on a giant-like pan, in which they add water (maybe oil too?) to create steam and to fry the bottom of the buns. I believe it's similar to the Shengjianbao, which is popular in Shanghai. Though, not as hard. I remember I had a shengjianbao in Shanghai and almost broke my teeth from how hard it was.
19:00 Visiting Rahoe Night Market was nice. I really like the zhu rou fan (or pork with rice) that they have over there. What do you like most?

Trip to Yilan, Motorbike Ride, & Luodong Night Market (✈️Travel ????????Taiwan Series Day 6)
Day 6 of the ✈️ Travel Taiwan Series. Be part of the journey:
(Timestamps are below.)
0:20 Journey to from Taipei to Yilan. We got off at Luodong Station (羅東車站)
1:34 We picked out a motorbike and spoke to the staff at Yilan. They were quite friendly and even gave us some tea.
2:53 Riding the motorbike in Yilan
3:29 We stopped off at a dumpling/noodle shop in Yilan. The noodles were very so-so, but the pan fried dumplings (or Guo Tie, 鍋貼 ) were amazing. If you're not able to make it to Yilan, but interested in this restaurant, then no worries. It's a chain restaurant, so you can find it in Taipei.
The name of the place is Ba Fang Yun Ji Dumpling (八方雲集) and one of their locations is in Zhongzheng, here: 100, Taiwan, Taipei City, Zhongzheng District, Huaining Street, 39號誠品站前店
4:35 The journey to Yilan's mountainside
6:14 We then got to Nanfang'ao Observation Deck. From the deck, we were able to see Neipi Beach (内埤海滩), Nanfang'ao Fishing Harbor (南方澳渔港), Neipi Fishing Harbor (内埤渔港), and etc. Since the location is remote, you would need to get there by car/taxi/etc.
7:15 We explored Neipi Beach (内埤海滩) and it was quite spacious and clean. There weren't many people there, which was nice.
10:06 We then went to Luodong Night Market (羅东观光夜市) and tried stinky tofu (臭豆腐), and the dessert, which was red bean in tapioca with assorted tofu pudding (yes, that was the entire name of the dessert). The location to Luodong Night Market is: Gongyuan Rd, Luodong Township, Yilan Country 宜兰县罗东镇公园路
The stinky tofu actually had vegetables on top and was quite good. I was surprised. Last time when I was in Taiwan, I tried stinky tofu and it smelled and tasted like vomit. It was cut into pieces and was slightly hard, almost as if it was taken out of the freezer and not fully fried/cooked all the way. Odd, I know. But with the taste being so powerful, I decided to have a mouth fall of 75% fried rice & 25% stinky tofu. But it didn't work, the stinky tofu was still quite strong.
So when I had this stinky tofu, I wasn't even aware that it was stinky tofu, as it was on a stick, had a nice golden color to it, didn't smell/taste like vomit. It was like regular tofu, but fried, and with a nice sauce topped with vegetables. Perhaps there's different types of stinky tofu? Or I somehow got used to it after the one time I had it? Not sure. I even decided to go back to the place I tried my first stinky tofu and it wasn't as bad as I remember, so I don't know.
Anyways, after that, I had the red bean in tapioca with assorted tofu pudding. That was quite challenging. To put it short, I didn't like it one bit. There were about 4 different types of beans, black rice, what seemed to be frozen yogurt, and tapioca. The beans were just out of place for me, as they were quite bitter. You know I like the black rice for fan tuan (飯糰), but to have it as a dessert -- no. But I recommend you to try it, as it's such an odd dessert, in my opinion.
15:11 Goodbye Yilan! We then headed back to Taipei!
