Also known as Dongpirang Wall Village. A interesting little part of Tongyeong where there is a lot of graffiti and/or wall murals. Rather weird seeing all of this in Korea as one does not see a lot of graffiti in Korea. Especially in the smaller towns/cities.

Had a weekend trip to Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnamdo, Republic of Korea.
Tongyeong is a city along the coast of South Sea. It takes about 4~5 hours by bus from Seoul.
It has wonderful people, great seafoods, exciting activities and beautiful streets. Absolutely worthy of visiting if you are in Korea.

Which is the gateway to the Hanryu islands.
통영중앙시장은 한려수도의 관문인 통영에 위치한 전통시장이다.
As it is close to famous tourist attractions such as Dongpirang Mural Village and Cheugan Munhwa Madang,
동피랑 벽화마을과 강구안 문화마당 등 유명 관광 명소와 가까이 있어
it sells various items including live fish to tourists and local residents.

Dongpirang Vilage, Tongyeong-si, KOREA
Dongpirang is located behind the Central Market, which is a fish market in Dongho-dong in the town of Tongyeong. The town of Tongyeong wanted to demolish the old village and build a park in its place. The locals had to leave their houses with little compensation. However, in November 2006, one of the local organizations had an idea and started a campaign of even shantytowns can be transformed and started the work of painting Dongpirang-painting murals. Eighteen teams ranging from art school students to individual artists gathered to paint the shabby walls and transform the town.

고등학교 들어가고 적응하는데 좀 오래걸리고 일도 많아서 영상 만들기가 쉽지가 않았는데 이번 시험기간이 끝나고 민욱이와 시간을 짬내서 이화 벽화마을에 다녀왔습니다!

Whatever after my exam(even i ruined it) I visited Ewha wall painting town with Minwook.
It wasn't really great but i was just happy to be silly with him.

Taking you off the beaten path, Korea is home to many scenic back alleys. Today, we take you to a seaside village in Tongyeong that's famous for its beautiful wall paintings. Let’s check it out.

This coastal village overlooking the emerald sea looks unusually serene. Located by Ganguguan Port in Tongyeong, this village consists of the eastern part called Dongpirang and the west part called Seopirang. First, we're going to visit Dongpirang. It's a perfect place to take pictures thanks to countless murals drawn on the fences of residential houses. The murals were painted by local artists and ordinary villagers.
[Soundbite] Baek Young-hyun(Villager) : It's even more meaningful because the locals also participated in drawing. It's rewarding to see many people visit our village to see the murals.
When descending from Dongpirang Hill, make sure to stop by Gangguan Port to take a look at Admiral Yi Sun-shin's Turtle Ship.
[Soundbite] Lee Jung-nam(Turtle Ship Guide) : Tongyeong is where Admiral Yi Sun-shin led the Battle of Hansan Island when Japan invaded Joseon. This is a replica of his Turtle Ship installed in Gangguan Port. Anyone can come and see it.
You can try on the military uniforms of the Joseon era inside the Turtle Ship and see what it looks like firsthand.

This place is fun for children and grownups alike. It's very popular because it offers a chance to learn about history in a more vivid way.
[Soundbite] We liked it a lot. It was a meaningful time for my children.
This time, we're heading to Seopirang. This village is dedicated to writer Park Kyung-ri, who was born here and who is known for her famed novel The Land.
[Soundbite] Kim Yong-woo(Chief, Myeongjeong-dong, Tongyeong) : eopirang is dedicated to literature, mainly to writer Park Kyung-ri. There is a park at the top, where you can have a bird's-eye view of Tongyeong. It's a nice and quiet place.
