Guided tour and tasting in the Donnafugata winery in Marsala
Donnafugata was created in Sicily thanks to the initiative of a passionate family that revolutionized the style and the perception of Sicilian wine in the world.
Donnafugata now consists of a team of people increasingly focused on representing the excellence of Made in Italy all over the world – guided by the fifth generation of the family.
The name Donnafugata refers to the novel by Tomasi di Lampedusa entitled Il Gattopardo (The Leopard). A name that means “donna in fuga” (woman in flight) and refers to the story of a queen who found refuge in the part of Sicily where the company’s vineyards are located today. An adventure that inspired the corporate logo: the image of a woman’s head with windblown hair that dominates every bottle. Donnafugata labels are also works of art created or inspired by Gabriella Rallo, as are the names of the wines, an homage to art and literature.

Donnafugata: A name that speaks of Sicily
Donnafugata was created in Sicily by an enterprising family with 160 years’ experience in premium wines.
Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella, with their children José and Antonio, are engaged in an entrepreneurial project aimed at care for details and the production of wines that increasingly correspond to the territory’s potential. A way of being, a style that is characterized by sunshine and freshness, pleasantness, elegance and longevity of the wines produced.
Donnafugata
Donnafugata was created by a family which, for 160 years, has strongly believed in the oenological potential of the land of its origins. Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella, both pure- blooded Sicilians and both convinced that, to grow it is always necessary to be open to the changes which are occurring in the world, began a new project in 1983, an entrepreneurial adventure. The point of departure were the historic cellars of the family at Marsala and the vineyard of the Contessa Entellina area, and the search for exceptional quality arrived as far as the island of Pantelleria. Their sons, Josè and Antonio, have now joined their parents, enabling the house to grow at an even faster pace and become one of the symbols of the rebirth of Sicilian wine.

Donnafugata - Sedàra l Wines From Italy l Whole Foods Market
This eco-conscious winemaker harvests some of its grapes at night, saving significant energy by not having to cool the grapes as they would during the region's warm days.
Tasting notes: Sunset dining outdoors. Fresh cherry and strawberry aromas. Cascading notes of sun-dried cranberries, then black olive, then peppercorn. Rich, deep, rustic. Quintessentially Italian.
Pairs well with: Sottocenere al Tartufo cheese, lamb, mushroom risotto, crusty artisan breads
