VIENNA Schönbrunn ZOO - SEELÖWEN-FÜTTERUNG
DWK F&F 2018 Ton: Originalton (Sprecherin des Wiener Zoo)
Daily care and feeding 16:30
!! Honoured as most beautiful ZOO of the WORLD !! 2018
When Franz Stephan of Lorraine, husband of the Empress Maria Theresa, had been elected to the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1745, he founded the baroque zoo, which was presented to the first visitors in 1752.
This was not according to our ideas at all, belonging to the livestock farming of the animals. Under Otto Antonius, who was the first biologist to lead the zoo from 1924 to 1945, the idea was, to use the zoo for the offspring of endangered species. From then on, contacts with the universities and museums were much more intensively cultivated. However, the animal husbandry was considered as
antiquated, and the more species-appropriate attitude was more and more in the foreground. Under the Tyrolean veterinarian Helmut Pechlaner, there was then a big change: the zoo was generously expanded to now 17 acres, species-appropriate enclosures were rebuilt or are still newly built. As part of the European conservation breeding program, the Vienna Zoo has had great international success.
=================================
