It is located in Budgam district of Jammu & Kashmir located at a distance of 42 km from state summer capital Srinagar and 22 km from district headquarter Budgam.

Doodhpathri lies in a bowl shaped valley in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 2,730 m (8,957 ft), above sea level. It is an alpine valley covered with snow clad mountains and the meadows of Pine Fir and Deodar. The natural meadows, which are covered with snow in winter, allow the growth of wild flowers such as daisies, forget-me-nots and butter cups during spring and summer.

The name doodpathri'' means Valley of Milk. It is said that the famous saint of Kashmir Sheikh ul Aalam Sheikh Noor din Noorani has prayed here, and once when he was in search of water in the meadows,to offer prayers, he pricked the ground with his stick to search water, and milk came out, he asked the milk that you can only be used for drinking and not performing ablution.Hearing this milk at once changed its state to water and meadow got its name Doodhpathri. The water which is at present flowing through the meadows looks like milk from the distance,and remains very cold throughout the year.The lush green grasses over the vast meadows and silver shinning stream running over the large stones further increase its beauty. Doodhpathri is sloping grassy landscapes with a diversity of multicolored flowers up to Chang. The famous Tosamaidan lies in the west of doodpathri.

I visited Doodhpathri during the festive time of Eid and celebrated a lot. It is as same as we saw Switzerland in pictures. The entry ticket of Doodhpathri is Rs 10. You can also do horseriding here.

Doodhpathri is a meadow with lush green fields and a glacial stream meandering through it. The name has it’s origins in the local folklore which tell the story of a Sufi saint coming here in search of water and discovering the stream. Since the water appears pretty white, it was mistaken for milk by the learned man. And thus he called it “Doodhpathri” a.k.a “Valley of Milk”.

DOODHPATHRI - A tourist destination and hill station located in Budgam district of Jammu & Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of 8,957 ft from sea level, and located at a distance of 42 km from state summer capital Srinagar.

It lies in a bowl shaped valley in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 2,730 m (8,957 ft), above sea level. Sadhna Pass is a mountain pass in Jammu and Kashmir. It is located in the Himalayas and connects Karnah tehsil of Kupwara district with the rest of the Indian administrated Kashmir valley. It is located in the vast Shams Bri mountainous range.

Here's our day 12 of our 22-day long journey in which we started our journey from Doodhpathri towards ladakh.Srinagar leh highway is one of the most beautiful highway in india and you have to cross some high mountain passes to reach Leh ladakh.We crossed Budgam, Srinagar, Sonamarg and a high mountain pass called Zojilla pass to reach Drass on Day 12 of our journey.

Kashmir is just like a Himalayan Paradise on the earth. Some of the famous places to visit in Kashmir are Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Yousmarg. Srinagar is the capital and heart of Kashmir. There are various gardens and lakes in Kashmir. Wular and Dal lake are the famous lakes in Kashmir.
