Barcade in Manhattan
The Original Arcade Bar.
Barcade is a combination bar and arcade with a focus on classic video games and American craft beer. There are locations in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia, owned by four friends; Paul Kermizian, Pete Langway, and brothers Kevin and Scott Beard.
The original Barcade was opened in 2004 in a former metal shop on Union Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. At the time of the opening, Kevin and Scott were working in graphic design, Paul in film and television, and Pete in advertising. Paul had just completed directing the feature film “American Beer”, a road trip documentary profiling the American craft beer industry, and the friends were spending time drinking craft beer and playing the classic 1980’s video games that lined the walls of Paul’s Williamsburg loft.
Those beer and game filled nights inspired the group to open a neighborhood bar centered on American craft beer and classic video games. They quit their day jobs, maxed out their credit cards and began work on Barcade.
The friends did most of the construction themselves, keeping the look of the warehouse and garage that the space had been, and the bar opened in the fall of 2004.
The company registered a federal trademark in 2007 for the name Barcade. They expanded in 2011, opening two new locations; one in downtown Jersey City and another in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia.
In 2014, Barcade opened its fourth and fifth locations, both in Manhattan, on West 24th Street in Chelsea and on St. Mark’s Place in the East Village.

From Seattle to Atlanta, old school arcades are catching on with people who miss the touch and feel
VOICE-OVER SCRIPT:
THE GOLDEN AGE OF GAMING.. PRESERVED INSIDE THIS ATLANTA BAR....
WHERE DONKEY KONG AND MORTAL KOMBAT BATTLE FOR VIDEO GAME SUPREMACY AND YOUR QUARTERS.
SOUNDBITE (English) Brandon Ley (left), Co-owner, Joystick Game Bar:
There's a couple of games, people will literally walk up and just touch before they even approach the bar or go to get quarters or anything. They just need to touch it.
FROM THIS PINBALL ARCADE IN WASHINGTON, TO THE JOYSTICK BAR IN GEORGIA, OLD SCHOOL ARCADE GAMES ARE BEING BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE FOR LOVE - AND PROFIT.
SOUNDBITE (English) Johnny Martinez (right), Co-owner of Joystick Game Bar:
And it encourages people to interact with each other so it's not just a bar where you go and you stand around like some sort of meat market.
BUT WHERE DO THESE OLD GAMES COME FROM? MEET MICHAEL RICH.
HE STARTED RESTORING GAMES IN 2011 WHILE RECUPERATING FROM A CAR ACCIDENT. THE HOBBY TURNED INTO A CAREER.
SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Rich, Arcade game seller:
So pull over a control panel, pull the buttons out, start refurbishing it, take a PCB apart, pull all the chips out, clean them, put it back in, figure out what's wrong, re-solder the connections. Whatever I got to do.
THE GAMES GET THEIR OWN SECOND LIFE, GIVING PATRONS AN ALTERNATIVE TO PLAYING GAMES ALONE ON THEIR SMARTPHONES.
SOUNDBITE (English) Joshua Scott, bar patron:
You can read the text message or whatever, but it's not, you're not going to be next to the guy saying `Oh, how did you like that?' You can't talk to him as you're beating him.
AND THIS ARCADE GAMING REVIVAL ALLOWS THE NEXT GENERATION TO DISCOVER THE JOYS AND JOYSTICKS OF THE CLASSICS.

Barcade NYC Walkthrough Tour! (May 2014)
Here is an exclusive early look at the newest Barcade that will be opening very soon in the heart of New York City! This new Barcade is located on 148 West 24th Street, right off 7th Avenue so if you're coming in from Penn Station it's just a few blocks downtown.
In this video you'll see an interview I conducted with one of the owners, Paul. I ask him about how the bar got it's start, the first game he bought and some of the big games that he wanted to have at the brand new location.
Finally I take you on a full tour of the newest location. Lots of great games like Konami's classics Simpsons, TMNT and a full sized, six player X-Men. Sega's rare Hologram: Time Traveler, a full environmental Discs of Tron from Midway and the original Atari Star Wars Trilogy!
When the bar finally gets a grand opening date I'll be sure to update the video and add it here. Big special thanks to Paul and everybody from Barcade for allowing me to get inside the place early to get this video for all of you to enjoy! Be sure to check them out!

Barcade: Philadelphia, PA
This walkthrough comes to us in Philly. In a small area called Fishtown is a bar/arcade establishment called, wait for it, Barcade. In this Barcade are a wide variety of old arcade games straight from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Most of which are ultimate classics and with many varieties. If you are near the Philidelphia area, I suggest you head to the place and see for yourself. There website is
Barcade, Philadelphia
Filmed May 2014. One of my favorite bars, thanks to the presence of so many classic games and friendly staff (if only the 10 oz pour wasn't so prevalent). At least the games are all .25!
Sorry the quality is blurred at some points; the arcade is dark for a good reason, but it's not ideal for filming.
Tacoma Talks #25- Frost Park Friday Chalking
Take a short walk with me at Frost Park on the corner of 9th & Pacific in downtown Tacoma. About 9 years ago a group of Artist buddies who worked downtown saved this little park through Chalk Art. Tacoma is not immune to drugs, crime & prostitution, and in the past it was a real problem in Downtown Tacoma. Frost Park was about to be closed by the City when this group of Artist friends got permission to let people use chalk from noon-1:00 at the park. People came to chalk, and slowly the riff-raff was pushed back to the point the park was saved. At least this is the story I was told from one of the Artists who helped start it & is still a huge contributor to it. I do know that I love to go down on Fridays and chalk or just eat lunch and watch everyone chalking. Novice to Pro, old & young all gather rain or shine.

I honestly feel sorry for this guy, especially if he's stupid enough to get his third strike-
(I eventually got tired finding/watching videos that kicked RandomDumbass's RaymondDundas's English arse, so I leave you with these nice selections).
