Executive Luxury 77m Superyacht - SAMAR
M/Y SAMAR is a 77m (252 foot) steel-and-aluminum Laurent Giles designed luxury motor yacht with studio and interior styling by Joe Thome. She was built and launched by Devonport Yachts of England in 2006. Yacht SAMAR is a very large and luxurious charter yacht which features almost everything that can be offered on a private motor yacht. SAMAR has a helipad, a large Jacuzzi pool, an open bar, large deck areas, a side garage, as well as a movie theater. The luxury yacht is capable of extended global cruising, with a range of 6,000 nautical miles and cold storage provisions for 44 people (including crew).
SAMAR's other exceptional features include a very spacious main saloon and dining room with huge windows and 3 meter high head height deck heads. There is a covered bridge deck bar and dining area with 16 fixed chrome and leather chairs encircling the round bar. Both the chairs and the counter can be adjusted to the right height for bar/buffet or formal dining.
Another great feature is an interior layout which has a guest elevator through all four deck levels. There are also two separate service lifts for the crew. A full-fitted gymnasium, steam room and both hot and cold pools on the upper deck are also notable.
The yacht provides accommodation for an Owners party of 12 (in 7 staterooms) with a crew of 26. The owner's stateroom is independent on the main deck, there are two VIP cabins on the lower deck (one twin and one double), as well as 2 double cabins on lower deck, and one small double on the bridge deck.
She provides a wet dock in the aft garage for a 33'' CrisCraft ridged hulled tender and there are four further tenders onboard. The helipad is designed to house a Bell 407 helicopter with refueling facilities, three Jet Skis and a MINI Cooper cabriolet.
Luxury yacht SAMAR is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system consisting of three Wärtsilä 1,530-kW diesel generators and two 2,414-hp drive motors with twin fixed-pitch, five-bladed propellers. Combined, they provide the yacht's top speed of 16.5 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots.

I visited my parents, who are pastors at the Christiansted Church of the Nazarene, and got many beautiful pictures and video from my trip to this tropical paradise of beaches and palm trees and flowers and ocean waters, embedded in the beautiful Caribbean Sea! God’s creation of earth is spectacular!

Sailing With Captain Skully S1E01 - Buying a Charter Company
Join Captain Skully as he flies down to St. Thomas USVI to check out a Tartan 37 sailboat as part of the purchase of a daysailing charter company he found for sale on CraigsList while enduring another yucky winter in Seattle with his family.
The boat is conveniently located in the US Virgin Islands between St. Thomas and Water Island on a mooring ball. The plan is for Captain Skully to live aboard while filming the first season of videos. Then, in June, he will single hand the boat back to Puerto Rico to put the boat on the hard for hurricane season, then fly back to Seattle to be with his family and prep for moving them down to the Caribbean this Fall.
Captain Skully has been the Base Manager for a very successful fractional sailing program on San Francisco Bay, he started an ASA sailing school where he won both Instructor of the Year and School of the Year for both 2010 and 2011. He has worked at very large marine chandleries and has been the Rig Shop Manager for two different rigging services companies for which he is certified in 14 different splices. He holds a USCG Master 25 Gross Ton Near Coastal captain's license with both sailing and towing endorsements. He is a certified sailing instructor with both ASA and US Sailing up to Coastal Passagemaking and Coastal Navigation. He has taught for SailTime, Club Nautique and Sunsail. He also runs a skippered charter service in the BVI.

Super Yacht MALTESE FALCON ~ LARGEST SAILBOAT ~ WeBeYachting.com ~
The 289 foot (88m) Maltese Falcon is the largest private sailboat in the world. This fine super yacht changed owners in 2009, and it is reported that the yacht was sold to Elena Ambrosiadou for the tidy sum of 120 million US dollars - a real bargain if you consider Tom Perkins was originally asking $165 million. Ambrosiadou, who grew up in Greece, is best known for setting up one of the most successful hedge funds in the world, and was Britain’s best paid female executive before moving her company Ikos to Cyprus in 2006. Although she appears to be shying away from the publicity, she will now be known not only as one the world's top female entrepreneurs, but as the owner of the world's most impressive sailboat. Fact is, she is the only woman I could find who owns a mega yacht, anywhere!
As far as the boat goes, this sailing yacht's rig is impressive and complicated to say the least. It is also efficient, reaching nearly 20 knots under sail alone. The Maltese Falcon sports what is called a DynaRig, which means it is effectively a square rigger, and each of the three freestanding masts support six yardarms, which are connected rigidly to the mast. The yacht's 25,791 square feet (2,400 square meters) of sails are set between the yards in such a way that when deployed there are no gaps to the sail plan, enabling each spar's sails to work as a single airfoil. Unlike a conventional square rigger, the yards have a built in camber of 12%, and the sails are trimmed to the wind direction by rotating the entire mast, which is operated by a sail control system on the bridge. When not deployed, the mega yacht's sails furl right into the mast itself.
The Maltese Falcon’s interior is as luxurious as you'd expect, of course, with the main feature being the atrium. Here, the three decks are united by a circular stairway, surrounding the main mast, and creating a spiralling effect. This is all enhanced by natural light streaming in from the top to the lower decks through transparent floors. The main deck of the Maltese Falcon is a big open space with a main saloon, a huge aft-cockpit, two studio areas and an impressive dining room. For sleeping there are five lower deck staterooms and one passage cabin on the upper deck with a private sun bathing area, and direct access to the mega yacht's wheelhouse. As you can see in the photos, it's like a spaceship with a lot of wood.
For fun, the Maltese Falcon carries two 32 foot Pascoe RIB Tenders (with water skis), four Laser sailboats, and a 14 foot Castold Jet tender. In addition to dive gear, Maltese Falcon also carries a private submarine for exploring the deep, which was one of former owner Tom Perkins' favorite toys, and is strangely was one of the reason he says he sold the Maltese Falcon: “My pleasure comes from the technical and aesthetic challenges of new yacht projects more than from cruising aboard the finished boat. I would now like to indulge my interest in ‘sports’ submarines and maybe to build a specialized boat to use as a sub carrier.”
And what does the new owner have to say about the boat? Very little. It appears that she doesn't want to attract too much attention to herself, which is kind of hard to do when you own one of the world's biggest sailing yacht. I guess keeping a low profile means different things to different people. What we do know is that she's well proportioned, sleek, sexy, and her beauty draws a crowd wherever she goes - and now she has an owner with the same qualities!
