State Street starts and the western edge of the North Side, then turns 90 degrees and runs straight through the center of the city. One of the oldest roads in town this runs through the middle of the inner city. Much of the really decayed property has been demolished over the years, and much of what remains is historic and very cool.

By the time the final credits are rolling, that disbelief is replaced by anger, disgust, perhaps shame and hopefully a desire for change.

The Story Of Racine On The Lake
The story of Racine on the lake. This is a documentary of the Racine County Marina and Harbor development effort. This documentary was created by the Racine Public Library and features interviews of Jean Jacobson, Stephen F. Olsen, Robert A. Gibson, Len Ziolkowski, James F. Rooney, Thomas N. Wright, Dennis Kornwolf and N. Owen Davies.
The Festival Park was dedicated on October 30, 1987. A rededication and renaming of the park to Len Ziolkowski Harbor Park occurred on May 19, 2016.

Please join us to celebrate the tenacity, leadership, and vision of former County Executive Len Ziolkowski. Len, along with the support of federal, state, county and city officials, changed the Racine Harbor forever. Known as the “Gem of the Great Lakes”, Reefpoint Marina has had trementous economic impact on Racine County and surrounding areas.

Part of the mission of the Racine Public Library is to preserve significant local history. In 1986, Library administration recognized the importance to Racine of Harbor development and directed that an ongoing record of this development be filmed on videotape. From 1986 to 1988, construction of the project, as well as interviews with relevant participants were taped, resulting in the following edited documentary.

Origins of Hip Hop | Racine, Wisconsin
Since its inception in 2012, this all-ages annual event brings lovers of Hip-Hop culture together for an entertaining yet educational experience at a beautiful venue on the shores of Lake Michigan. The goal is to highlight and explore the four major elements of Hip-Hop culture: breakdancing, graffiti, DJing, and MCing. Over a dozen professional practitioners gather to showcase these elements, discuss their history, and provide a platform for people to participate free of charge to the public.
Origins of Hip-Hop 7 is brought to you by Black Hand Tattoo Gallery, BONK!, Family Power Music, Smoke’d On The Water, Sweatshop Movement, Racine Public Library, Willy’s Sole Kitchen, and dozens of awesome individuals who donate their time and talents to make this event possible.
