Episode 14: Lodge-Like Structures in Doxey Marshes
Doxey marshes is a nature reserve in Stafford. I found structures resembling beaver lodges very similar to the ones in Forton just a few miles away.

46100 Roars through Cheshire and Staffordshire; The Welsh Borders Explorer 10-06-2018
The second of Saphos Trains' 'Welsh Borders Explorer' circuits from Crewe to Crewe via Chester, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Stafford took to the rails on a very warm and sunny 10th June 2018. having a free day for once and with Royal Scot at the head, there was little chance of me doing anything else so I drove down into deepest Cheshire for the first of 2 shots, at a small village called Alpraham, between Calveley and Beeston Castle on the Crewe-Chester route. I had originally planned to go to the foot crossing at Beeston however because I have used that shot 3 times in the last 4 years I decided to try something new. Being closer to Crewe I was hoping that 46100 would be putting some effort in (as usually by Beeston they aren't) and I wasn't disappointed, with the Scot roaring beneath the bridge right on time and doing around 65-70mph.
Doubling back up the A49 to Hartford, a 35 minute train ride to Stafford and a 1 1/4 mile walk from there took me to the second shot on Doxey Marsh, a large nature reserve just north of Stafford town centre. 46100 was booked for an 8 minute stop in platform 6 at Stafford station which it did do although in reality because of late running or non existent service trains it could have omitted this stop without delaying anything behind. Because of the stop though it did mean that the shot I did get was a noisy one with 46100 accelerating hard away along the down slow line towards Norton Bridge and Crewe.
RSPB Ham Wall. Bitterns!!! UK Nature and Wildlife Photography
I am an Amateur Nature and Wildlife photographer and vlogger based in South Staffordshire.
In this video I take a trip with a very good friend of mine to RSPB Ham Wall where I get my first ever sighting of a Bittern. On its own it was worth the 280 mile round trip.

I recently took a trip to South Devon, a place I have fallen in love with ever since my daughter moved down there. This episode details a walk I took along the river Dart from Totnes and some of the birds I saw.

35028's last Blast; The Clan Line Farewell 30-06-2015
The tour name is basically what it was; the final run of Merchant Navy No. 35028 'Clan Line' before going into Crewe Works for overhaul. The fact that 35028 virtually never strays away from the Southern region these days made this tour a must see. Originally I only planned to do a single shot, but favourable timings meant I could change the locations and include a second shot too.
When a steam hauled tour passes Long Buckby, the platforms are usually almost filled to capacity with photographers and onlookers. Today of all days however, it was surprising how few people were there, especially given the significance of the tour. With a clear run round the Northampton loop, 35028 rounded the bend at a steady rate of knots running around 5 minutes early, with a friendly whistle from the driver as the tour passed by.
There were considerably more people at Rugby, where 35028 took a 40 minute water & pathing stop. A video of the Merchant Navy departing was impossible here, not only due to the volume of people, but because my train up to Stafford was booked to depart at exactly the same time.
Arriving at Stafford about 45 minutes ahead of the tour, it was a 20 minute walk to the location I had looked at 3 days earlier on Doxey Marsh nature reserve just to the north of Stafford town centre. Here there is a superb view of the line heading north from Stafford station but as most steam tours take the down slow up to Crewe (furthest away from the camera), the risk of bowlage is quite considerable, as was the case today, with the Halewood-Southampton car train, well known for being one of the longest freight trains of the present day, booked to pass at virtually the same time. Technically, I have Cross Country to thank for the shot not going horribly wrong, as the late running of their Manchester Piccadilly-Bournemouth service (the Voyager seen at the beginning of the shot) meant the car train was held at a signal about 200 yards behind me. This gave 35028 just enough time to accelerate hard past the camera and disappear behind the trees before 66157 got the car train underway again; you don't come much closer to major bowlage than that...
