A quick tour through the Longsheng Rice Terraces aka Dragon's Backbone Terraces located in Guangxi Province near Guilin.
Rice terrace | Longsheng China | Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice
The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, between 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 ft) above sea level. A coiling terrace line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter. The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago.
Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon.
In early June, water is pumped over the rice paddies and young plants are transferred to the main terraces.

The Elephant Trunk Hill (Chinese: 象鼻山; pinyin: Xiàngbí Shān) is a hill, landmark and tourist attraction in Guilin, Guangxi, China. It is the symbol of the city of Guilin. It got its name because it looks like an elephant drinking water. The round opening that would be under the elephant’s trunk is known as Water-Moon Cave because at night the reflection of the moon can be seen through the arch and it looks as if it is under the water and floating on the surface of the water at the same time. Elephant Trunk Hill and Water-Moon Cave are located at the confluence of the Taohua River and the Lijiang River

Hiking the DRAGON'S BACKBONE (Longsheng Rice Terraces) | China Travel
Today we went hiking in the Longsheng Rice Terraces, in the rain...
We pushed through the showers and hiked all the way to the Golden Buddha viewpoint, and the views from the top were stunning! This area is known as the Dragon's Backbone because of the way the hills are formed.

The Longsheng Rice Terraces are located in Longsheng County, about 100 km (2 hours drive) from Guilin. The most popular are Ping An Rice Terrace and Jinkeng Rice Terrace.
The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, the highest part being 880 m in elevation while the lowest part is 380 m. The coiling line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water glittering in the sun in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of golden rice in fall, and layers of silvery frost in winter. At its beginning of Yuan Dynasty, the terraced fields were mostly built during the Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago.
Longsheng Cable Car (Dragon's Backbone)
We traveled the well maintained Chinese roads with landslide piles, but made it to ride the Longshen Cable Car. It was a long and interesting walk through the village back down to the bottom!
Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces - China
We did a tour through these rice terraces in China. It's a 3,5 hour bus ride from Yangshuo. The terraces are near Longshen.

Hiking up Longsheng Rice Terraces (Longji Dragon's Backbone) in Guilin, China (龙胜梯田 - 龙脊梯田)
Hiking up Longsheng Rice Terraces (Longji Dragon's Backbone) in Guilin, China (龙胜梯田 - 龙脊梯田) 龍勝梯田 Here we are at the Longji Rice Fields which are located just outside of Guilin. We've had such good luck. Check out the weather and the views behind.
So we are hiking up to one of the viewing platforms. This is going to be tough because it's like forty degrees outside and we're been told it'll take 30 minutes to one hour depending on our pace. So I'm trying to stay hydrated. Audrey is going to have to workout today.
Aww It's tired. It's so cute. Hello!

I don't know. Update number two. Still struggling. even sweatier but we're slowly gaining ground.
Watch out! You may die along the way. And there is someone behind you.
Sam over here just met a cat. Meow. Meow. Meow. Meow. Who can meow the loudest?
Well, thankfully we've been training for these steps at our hostel. We're on the fifth floor so we're used to going up and down the stairs everyday. And we tend to forget things which means we have to run up and down multiple times a day. True story.
We just went the wrong way so now we have to go down all of these steps. And back up.
Well, that concludes our sweat fest. I mean trek. It was great I just wish it could have been twenty degrees cooler.
Purrrrr

Travel in Rice terrace fields of Longsheng, China - Travel in Longsheng China 2017
Longsheng is named after Longji, which translates to dragon's backbone. The terrace resembles dragon scales as rice fields snake via the mountains.
Longi Rice Terraces, China Dragons Backbone The Climb
The 1,200 steps up to the Longi Rice Terraces begin once through a small bridge in Longsheng, and this was one of the best parts of the day trip. Yao and Zhuang women stood along the easy route selling food, crackers and tea made from Osmanthus flowers while bearers rushed by carrying people to the top.
Ping'an Village is around half way up to Viewpoint number two and we stopped for lunch at Mei You Restaurant, a branch of one located in Yangshuo. Mei You means I don't have in Chinese, and even if you don't speak Mandarin, you'll begin to pick up Mei You when Chinese people are talking together. Pronounce it May-o, like in Mayonnaise!
How do you like my traditional Zhuang red dress? Chinese tourists gathered around to take pictures of the crazy American posing. Tap your inner child and dress up in China for 10 Yuan, around $1.75 U.S. It was so much fun....
Hiking in the Longji Rice Terraces - Ping'an to Tian Tou
The eve of the 2013 Spring Festival and we travel to the Longji Rice Terraces near Guilin. We stay in Ping'an which is more or less in the middle part of the Longji Terraces. This walk takes us out into the countryside to Dazhai or Jinkeng village, a distance of about 8 kilometres but there are some quite steep climbs involved. If you enjoy this video take a look at Hiking in the Lonji Rice Terraces - Ping'an to Old Longji.

The whole area covers 850 square miles, and the highest field carved into the hillside sits 6,500 feet above sea level.
