Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the success of Operation Vijay. On this day, 26 July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been occupied by Pakistani intruders violating the Shimla Agreement. Kargil Victory Day (करगिल विजय दिवस) is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War's Heroes. This video is the Live briefing from the same memorial about the Kargil War.

Pensi La Valley: Known to the locals as the Gateway to Zanskar, this valley offers great views of the snowcapped mountains and typical barren landscapes.
The memorial is built to honor the soldiers who fought bravely in the Kargil war against Pakistan. At the memorial house, one can see picture description of the major event that took place during the war and army personals who lost their lives.

Drass Valley Kargil War Memorial , is a sacred place for any Indian to feel proud of the soldiers who sacrificed their life in war with Pakistani Intruders from May till July 1999. Memorial is on the base of Tololing and surrounded by peaks of Tiger Hill, Rhino Knobb and other snow covered peaks of Karakoram range.
P.S. This is an informational video, made to promote tourism in Drass, Kargil and nearby area and to show the place to the people who cannot afford to visit.

Tololing ridge can be seen from Kargil War Memorial in Dras
Tricolour in front of the Tololing ridge at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Jammu and Kashmir, India.
The Battle of Tololing was one of the pivotal battles in the Kargil War between India's armed forces and troops from the Northern Light Infantry who were aided by other Pakistan backed irregulars in 1999. The Tololing is a dominant position overlooking the Srinagar - Leh Highway (NH 1D) and was a vital link. The Indian army's casualties on the Tololing peak were half of the entire losses in the whole war. Much of the losses had to do with the nature of the terrain as World War I style frontal charges had to be mounted to reclaim the peaks to dislodge the intruders. The 3 week assault finally culminated with India taking control of the peak and changing the course of the war. 23 Indian Soldiers were killed in the final assault, resulting in one of the costliest battles of the entire war.
Indian Army 2nd Rajputana Rifle was tasked to take Tololing Top . After a night long fierce hand-to-hand battle 2 Rajputana recaptured Tololing Top thus turning the course of Kargil War . At 4.10 a.m. on June 13, Colonel M.B. Ravindranath, commanding officer of the 2 Rajputana Rifles, radioed the commander of the 8 Mountain Division Major-General Mohinder Puri, camping some 20 km away. It was a simple, terse message: Sir, I'm on Tololing Top. Tololing was so strategic that after Toloing was taken it took just six days for Indian troops to notch up a string of successes by evicting well-entrenched intruders on four nearby outposts with names that have become the talking point of cocktail circuits and village gatherings - Point 4590, Rocky Knob, Hump and Point 5140. It could lead to the recapture of a similarly strategic height of Tiger Hill
Success of Tololing came after heavy price, 23 Soldiers of 2nd Rajputana Rifle sacrificed their life, those also include Captain Vijayant Thapar and Major Vivek Gupta. The battalion earned four Maha Vir Chakras, one of India's highest medals for gallantry, three of them being awarded posthumously.

A poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, father of veteran Bollywood actor, Amitabh Bachchan is inscribed on the gateway of the memorial greets visitors. The names of the soldiers who lost their lives in the War are inscribed on the Memorial Wall and can be read by visitors. A museum attached to the Kargil War Memorial, which was established to celebrate the victory of 'Operation Vijay', houses pictures of Indian soldiers, archives of important war documents and recordings, Pakistani war equipments and gear, and official emblems of the Army from the Kargil war.
A giant national flag, weighing 15 kg was hoisted at the Kargil war memorial to commemorate the 13th anniversary of India's victory in the war.

Kargil War Memorial, is a war memorial built by the Indian Army, located in Dras, in the foothills of the Tololing Hill. The memorial is located about 5 km from the city centre across the Tiger Hill. It is located on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway 1D. The memorial is in the memory of the soldiers and officers of the Indian Army who were martyred during the 1999 conflict between India and Pakistan. The conflict later became known as the Kargil War. The memorial has a huge epitaph with names of all the officers and soldiers who died in war. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year at the memorial simultaneously the Prime Minister of India pays tribute to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyothi at the India Gate, New Delhi. The main attraction of the whole memorial is the Sandstone wall, in the open, which has the names of all the Indian army personnel, who laid their lives during the Kargil war besides there is also a souvenir shop. Visitors to the memorial can also see from there, some of the peaks that the Indian army captured back from Pakistan.
