Chesterton Windmill / Draycote Water 2019 DJI
Dji view
The windmill is one of Warwickshire's most famous landmarks. It stands on a hilltop overlooking the village of Chesterton, near the Roman Fosse Way and about five miles (8 km) south-east of Warwick. It was built around 1632-1633, probably by Sir Edward Peyto, who was Lord of the Chesterton Manor House. At this time John Stone, a pupil of Inigo Jones, was in Chesterton designing the new Manor House and he probably helped with the windmill as well. Sir Edward was a mathematician and astrologer and probably his own architect for the windmill, but although claims have been made that the tower was originally built as an observatory, the estate accounts now at Warwick Record Office show that it has always been a windmill,[2] making it the earliest tower mill in England to retain any of its working parts.
Draycote Water is a reservoir and country park near the village of Dunchurch, 3.75 miles (6 km) south of Rugby in Warwickshire, England, owned and operated by Severn Trent Water. It supplies drinking water to Rugby, via Barby Storage Reservoir, and is named after the nearby hamlet of Draycote.
The reservoir was created in the 1960s and was opened in January 1969 [1] and is by far the largest expanse of water in Warwickshire. It covers more than 600 acres (240 hectares) and holds up to 5 billion gallons (23 million m³) of water. The water is extracted by a tower on the northwest side of the reservoir.

The reservoir is filled by water that is pumped uphill from the river Leam at Eathorpe village and also from a supply at Stanford reservoir north of Rugby.

It is a site for Birdwatching and has a bird hide, with a feeding station sponsored by the West Midland Bird Club. Severn-Trent manage an adjacent 20 acre (81,000 m²) country park.

Draycote is used by cyclists, runners, windsurfers, fly fishers and for boating. Fishing is for brown trout and rainbow trout from the banks or from boats.
Draycote Water is on the A426 road at grid reference SP450690.

Draycote Water @50 Summer Solstice 2019
Summer solstice sunrise on Friday 21 June 2019, as viewed from Hensborough Hill (113m) overlooking 50-year-old Draycote Water. Camera placed upon an old mapping station known as a trig point (TP3738), first built on the hill top in 1943. Back then there was no reservoir in the valley below, but that changed in 1967 when construction of Draycote Water began. By 1969 it was finished and flooding commenced. Around five billion gallons later in 1972 it was full.

Walk Around Draycote Water
The hundreds of swifts and swallows were the stars of the day at Draycote Water. It was great to watch them whizzing around at super high speeds.
We tried pine needle tea; didn't like it. We luckily had real tea too.
The weather was rather windy and rainy; not ideal, but still it's good to get out.

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK
Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:
If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.
If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).
Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.
European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.
If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.
