We visited LIMA, PERU for a week & this is what happened...
It's our first time in South America! We traveled from Mexico to Peru, and Lima completely took us by surprise.
►Get your Tangerine Travels swag!
In today’s travel vlog, we fly from Mexico to Lima, Peru. After taking an Uber to our Airbnb in the heart of Miraflores, our travel exhaustion caught up with us. We had to sleep for practically an entire day, which wasn't ideal, but we decided it was better to be refreshed for our week in Lima. After all, we're making our first ever Lima vlog!
A Lima, Peru travel vlog wouldn’t be complete without the neighborhoods of Miraflores and Barranco. So on our first real day in the city, we let a professional cyclist (a Lima local) guide us on a bike tour of the city.
Miraflores is the most popular neighborhood for travelers visiting Lima. It sits right next to the coast with cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Barranco is Miraflores' colorful, bohemian neighbor, filled with murals, art, and historic architecture.
The first restaurant we tried, Buena Vista Cafe, was quite underwhelming (not typical food from Peru, though). We soon realized that authentic Peruvian foods like causa, ceviche, anticuchos, cancha, and picarones, are DELICIOUS. The more Peruvian food we tried, the more our mouths were watering for it!
Before traveling to Lima, we weren’t big fans of ceviche, but after tasting Peruvian ceviche, it’s now one of our favorite foods on the planet! Come along with us as we explore the food scene in Lima and visit some popular attractions throughout the city!
--OUR LIMA RECOMMENDATIONS--
WHERE TO EAT IN LIMA, PERU
1. Mangos Restaurant (Peruvian Food, Located in Larcomar)
2. La 73 Restaurant (Peruvian Food, Located in Barranco)
3. Makoto (Japanese Food, Located in Miraflores)
4. Muya (Peruvian Food, Located in Barranco)
5. Panchita (Peruvian Food, Located in Miraflores)
6. Peru Gourmet (Peruvian Food, Located in Historic Center)
WHAT TO DO IN LIMA, PERU
1. Take a bike tour. We found one on Airbnb and felt like it was the perfect way to get ourselves more comfortable with Lima.
2. Visit Parque del Amor. This park is in the Miraflores neighborhood on the malecon. It's a great place to take some pictures and watch the sunset.
3. Explore the Miraflores and Barranco neighborhoods. There are so many things to see, do, and eat in each of these zones in Lima. They are also considered some of the safest parts of the city.
4. Watch the changing of the guards. Every day at 12pm, you can see this fantastic ceremony at the Presidential Palace (Palacio de Gobierno) in the historic center. We recommend going early (the concert portion starts at 11:30am) to get a front-row seat.
5. Browse Peruvian arts and crafts at Inca Market. There are a few to choose from. They all contain thousands of local handicrafts like blankets, colorful decor, stuffed alpacas, and more.
6. Stroll down the coast. The malecon runs along the coast for miles in Miraflores. There's a walking/bike path through the entire thing and also benches, workout equipment, dog parks, playgrounds, and tons more to see and do.
7. Visit the popular attraction in Peru - Larcomar. This oceanside shopping mall has dozens of shops, restaurants, and cafes.
8. Visit the Pre-Inca Ruins. Enjoy learning about ancient civilizations and their impressive history? This is a must-see.

Lover's Park in Lima, Peru
Ancient Peru & Machu Picchu
May 6-15, 2007
Day 1 - Lima
Fly overnight to Peru.
Day 2 - Lima
Arrive this morning in Lima. A Go Ahead representative greets you and escorts you to your hotel. Once youve checked in to your hotel, an expert local guide leads you on an extensive tour through the two facets of Lima, ancient and new. With over 9 million inhabitants, Lima is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Center but also a bustling modern metropolis. Youll see the citys Cathedral, the Plaza de Armas and the Church of San Francisco, which houses catacombs dating back to the 16th century. Tonight, enjoy our included Welcome Dinner in Lima.
Day 3 - Lima
Today is free to explore Lima at your leisure. You may want to visit one of Limas several museums, such as the Museo de Arte, with its ample collection of pre-Columbian artifacts discovered in nearby Incan ruins. Or you might shop for unique souvenirs at the Polvos Azules city market.
Day 4 - Cuzco
Enjoy a quick flight to Cuzco, center of the ancient Inca culture and South Americas oldest continuously inhabited city. Take the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy Cuzcos excellent shopping and night life. Dinner is included this evening.
Day 5 - Cuzco
Cuzco is a brilliant example of a living museum. This magnificent capital of ancient Peru was—and still is—the base for accessing the surrounding religious sites. The city still contains walls and roads originally built by the Incas. As you walk the streets on this mornings fully guided sightseeing tour, notice how old Inca markings and ruins blend in with trendy new cafés and restaurants. Youll see the magnificent 16th-century cathedral and, just east of the city center, the breathtaking Korikancha Temple, a testament to the wealth and power of the Incas that was once fully covered in gold. After lunch, venture off to four separate Inca archaeological sites, including Sacsayhuaman, where an old fortress holds clues to the Spanish victory over the Incas in 1536. Some of the interlocking stones preserved in these ruins weigh as much as 360 tons.
Day 6 - Machu Picchu
Approaching Machu Picchu is a journey youll never forget. Today, youll take a train up Picchu mountain and through the lush valleys that lead to the evocative Lost City of the Incas. Surrounded by emerald green mountains and bathed in an almost constant stream of sunlight, there is nothing in South America—and perhaps in the world—quite like the sight of Machu Picchu. This famed Lost City of the Incas is said to have been excavated by Hiram Bingham in the early 20th century, but whose origins remain one of the worlds greatest mysteries. On a full-day excursion to the massive ruins, walk the same steps up the Temples of the Moon and the Sun as the Incas once did.
Day 7 - Cuzco
Spend a free morning in Machu Picchu valley and enjoy an included lunch. Then return to Cuzco via train.
Day 8 - Cuzco
A local guide leads a full-day sightseeing tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, nestled below and between Cuzco, Machu Picchu and the surrounding Andes Mountains. In some ways even more historically important than Machu Picchu, the valley illustrates the Incas technological expertise. Youll see the famous ruins of Pisac and Ollantaytambo and visit several local market towns. Also featured is the longest man-made pre-Columbian canal ever built.
Day 9 - Cuzco
With a free day in Cuzco, you might choose to head to the Archaeological Museum with thousands of artifacts from nearby ruins.
Day 10 - Lima
Fly to Lima this morning. After an included lunch, view worldwide icons of pre-Colombian art at the Larco Herrera Museum, where you will see the finest gold and silver collection from Ancient Peru as well as the famous erotic archaeological collection. Also, Larco is one of the few museums in the world where visitors can enter the storage area and view the museum's 45,000 classified archaeological objects. Then join your fellow travelers for a Farewell Dinner in Peru.
Day 11 - Lima
Board your flight home.

The flavors of Peru stem from a varied climate, a mixed population, and a history of colonization. Peruvians have experienced a renewed pride in their cooking as a result of the success that Peruvian restaurants have started to enjoy all over the world.
Ceviche is the best known Peruvian dish. This popular seafood dish claims origins in Lima, Peru but is found in many coastal areas throughout Latin America such as Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia. Ceviche is also known as cebiche and sometimes spelt seviche. In it’s simplest form Ceviche consists of raw fish and lime juice with some chilli, or hot peppers. In this post, I’ll be talking about Peruvian Ceviche (Peru’s national dish) or Ceviche Peruano in particular but the overall cooking methods, preparation, and ingredients are similar to other forms of this dish.

Stereophonics in Lima - The Bartender And The Thief (Nov. 25, 2010 | Peru)
THE BARTENDER AND THE THIEF
From Performance and Cocktails (1999)
When you think about it, he's watching every word
your saying, day in
and when she's sussed you out
He calls her up and out
She comes and hustles us
Long drinking, gone fishing, love drinking
The bartender and the thief are lovers
Steal what they need like sisters and
brothers
Met in a church a night to remember
robbing the graves of bodies
dismembered
He watched the lesbian talk she kissed and
groped but mostly talked in lust crushed
He couldn't make the call his eyes were
gripped on licking tongues enough's enough
failed for once
long drinking gone fishing love
drinking
The bartender and the thief are lovers
steal what they need like sisters and
brothers
met in a church a night to remember
robbing the graves of bodies
dismembered
Long drinking gone fishing love
drinking
the bartender and the thief are lovers
steal what they need like sisters and
brothers
met in a church a night to remember
robbing the graves of bodies
dismembered
Saved what they stole to meet at the alter
place where they first set eyes on each
other
flew to the sun to start life all over
set up a bar and robbed all the locals
McDonald’s tragedy as co-worker lovers electrocuted by drinks machine - Live News 24

Videos can use content-based copyright law contains reasonable use Fair Use ( TWO teenage lovers working in a McDonald's kitchen have both died after being electrocuted by a faulty drinks machine. Alexandra Porras Inga and boyfriend Gabriel Campos Zapata, both 18, were cleaning a branch of the food giant in Peruvian capital Lima early on Sunday when the accident happened. The pair had recently finished secondary school, and had been working night shifts in the restaurant in the district of Pueblo Libre for six months. Police said Inga suffered an electric shock while working with the drinks machine, and that Zapata was also electrocuted when he tried to help her. Prosecutors have now ordered a criminal investigation, saying: “The police will collect statement from the owners and the managers of the restaurant and the statement of the workers, as well as doing an inspection of the electrical facilities, the security systems, the prevention of accidents at work and the conditions the victims were working under at the time of the incident.” Investigators will also look into reports that rescuers were initially denied access to the premises. Representing Inga's family, lawyer Elizabeth Carmona claimed to have evidence of exposed wires in the kitchen that could've put workers' lives at risk. She said the family intended to sue the local government because of a lack of proper supervision in the restaurant. The local government has order the restaurant closed. 'WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED' Gabriel's mother, Rocio Zapata told local media: “We want them to investigate how things happened. We were not given a specific version, only that it was an electrical discharge.” McDonald's Peru said in a press statement that it regretted the incident and announced two days of mourning. All our restaurants will remain closed in the whole country without affecting the conditions of our workers,” it said. Arcos Dorados, the company which owns the McDonald’s franchise in Peru, added: “We are working to find out the details of what happened and will give everything needed to the investigation.” Representing McDonald’s, Ricardo Elias said: “Police have done all due diligence. We as a company have done it right by giving all the information and access to the restaurant requested by them”. An investigation is ongoing. We pay for your stories! Peruvian Food, Music and Dance
Immigrants from all over the world come to Taiwan, where they struggle to start a new life in a different place. In the latest part of our ongoing series, let’s take a look at Jorge Chocano from Peru, who is promoting Latin American cuisine and dance in Taiwan. Peruvian chef Jorge Chocanoturns up the flames on his stove as he sautes sirloin steak pieces. He then adds French fries in a display of Peru’s unique culinary techniques. Another example isthe national dish ceviche - raw fish marinated in lemon juice. Jorge ChocanoPeruvian ImmigrantCeviche is like our flag dish from … Peru. It’s the most famous dish that we have. It’s a mix between fish and lemon and red onions. Chocano has lived in Taiwan for more than 15 years. He originally worked for the Honduran embassy. Later he married Irene, a Taiwanese woman, then, three years ago, he opened a restaurant in Tianmu. Jorge ChocanoPeruvian ImmigrantI think Peruvian food is very tasty. It’s very famous in the world. Right now, two or three Peruvian restaurants are in the top 10 in the world and in Taiwan we didn’t have the chance to try it. Chocano is also a music lover. He not only invites singers to perform in the restaurant, but even frequently offers free Salsa classes.Heholds Salsa dance parties, and even hosted a Latin American music program on the English language radio station ICRT. Whether it’s through music, dance or food, he never misses a chance to spread the beauty of Latin American culture in Taiwan.
