Drummond Castle and Gardens Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland video of photographs of Drummond Castle and Gardens on visit South of Crieff, Perthshire. This Scottish castle is best known for its gardens, often described as the best example of formal terraced gardens in Scotland. The castle comprises a tower house built in the late 15th century, and a 17th century mansion, both of which were rebuilt in Victorian times. The gardens date to the 1630s, although they too were restructured in the 19th century. The lands of Drummond were the property of the Drummond family from the 14th century, and the original tower house was built over several years by John Drummond, 1st Lord Drummond of Cargill, from about 1490. In 1605 the 4th Lord Drummond was created Earl of Perth, and added to the castle. John Drummond, 2nd Earl of Perth, laid out the first terraced garden around the castle in the 1630s. A small selection of my personal photographs shot on small group tours of Scotland.

Places to see in ( Crieff - UK )
Crieff is a market town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Crieff lies on the A85 road between Perth and Crianlarich and also lies on the A822 between Greenloaning and Aberfeldy. The A822 joins onto the A823 which leads to Dunfermline.
Crieff has developed into a hub for tourism, trading mainly on its whisky and cattle droving history. Tourist attractions include the Caithness Glass Visitor Centre and Glenturret Distillery. Innerpeffray Library (established c. 1680), Scotland's oldest lending library, is also nearby. St. Mary's Chapel, adjacent to the library, dates from 1508. Both the library and chapel are open to the public: the library is run by a charitable trust, the chapel is in the care of Historic Scotland.
For a number of centuries Highlanders came south to Crieff to sell their black cattle whose meat and hides were avidly sought by the growing urban populations in Lowland Scotland and the north of England. The town acted as a gathering point or tryst for the Michaelmas cattle sale held each year and the surrounding fields and hillsides were black with the tens of thousands of cattle - some from as far away as Caithness and the Outer Hebrides (for comparison, in 1790 the population of Crieff was about 1,200 which led to a ratio of ten cows per person, similar to the sheep/human ratio in New Zealand).
During the October Tryst (as the cattle gathering was known), Crieff was the prototype 'wild west' town. Milling with the cattle were horse thieves, bandits and drunken drovers. The inevitable killings were punished on the Kind Gallows, for which Crieff became known throughout Europe.
In the nineteenth century Crieff became a fashionable destination for tourists visiting the Highlands and as a country retreat for wealthy businessmen from Edinburgh, Glasgow and beyond. Many such visitors attended the hydropathic establishment, Crieff Hypopathic Establishment there, now Crieff Hydro which opened in 1868, and remains in operation. Crieff still functions as a tourist centre, and the large villas stand as testaments to its use by wealthy city-dwellers. Crieff was once served by Crieff railway station. The station was opened in 1856 by the Crieff Junction Railway, but was closed in 1964 by British Railways as part of the Beeching Axe.
( Crieff - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Crieff . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Crieff - UK

Photo-Story montage of a walk I took up Montcrieffe Hill to Tarsappie hill just below Perth.
Sadly I left it a little late in the day, and it was not so bright.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy, I thought the scenery was superb as you can see right across the Earn Valley to the South, and North along the Tay Valley and as far away as Gleneagles to the West and Falkland hill to the south, with Dundee in the East and the Grampians to the North, beyond Perth City itself.

Cromlix House
Cromlix House is a Victorian mansion near Kinbuck, Perthshire. It was built in 1874 as a family residence, and has since been operated as a hotel. The hotel closed in 2011 and in early 2013 it was bought by tennis player Andy Murray. The hotel re-opened in April 2014 under the name CROMLIX, managed by Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI).
There are records of Cromlix from the 1500s when the Bishop of Dunblane sold the lands of Cromlix to his brother, Robert Chisholm. The present house was built for Arthur Hay-Drummond, son of the Earl of Kinnoul. King Edward VII visited in September 1908. The house remained a family home for the Hay-Drummonds until the death of Evelyn Hay-Drummond in 1971, who had married Terence Eden (8th Lord Auckland).

Small Group Ancestry Tour Stobhall Castle Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of photographs from a small group ancestry tour.of Stobhall Castle in Perthshire. This Scottish castle was originally constructed in the early 14th Century and is the historic seat of the Drummond Clan. Stobhall and its lands were granted to Sir John Drummond in 1367. His daughter married King Robert. The royal links brought money and power and, in the late 15th century, the family was given permission to build another, more substantial home 25 miles to the west, Drummond Castle. Stobhall became the family's second home and the place where they hunted and fished and took their leisure. James IV, who courted Margaret Drummond in the gardens, fell in love with the castle, and even wrote a poem in its honour. The 16th century chapel, restored by James Strathallan's grandfather, David, Earl of Perth, suggests the family's connections spread well beyond British royalty as the painted images are all of foreign monarchs, including the mythical African king Prester John and the splendid King of Mauretania on an elephant. The Lords Drummond, elevated to the Earldom of Perth in 1605, lived there until the mid-18th century. They forfeited the title in 1715 and then Stobhall in 1745 for backing the Old and Young Pretenders, although it remained in the family through marriage.
