Druskininkai resort ( short version)
Druskininkai caught the students in a swirl of practice and adventures
A foreign country, different culture and an unknown language. These are the barriers that three girls named Roxana, Mihaela, Georgiana and five boys: Norbert, Alexandru, Andrei, Danut, and Christian – who are living and studying in Romania, Teoretic Mihail Kogalniceanu lyceum, had to deal with. This summer, they decided to take the opportunity of Erasmus+ and came to Lithuania, a resort of Druskininkai to gain some practice and knowledge in tourism sphere.
It was a tough challenge not only for the students - some of them barely even knew English. It was also a challenge for the organizers of the practice as well. They had to find a place, that would accept them, and that was not easy because summer is a very hard-working time and it is a tough task for trainees to find a practice.
Finally, a true hospitality came along and the project was guarded by the Mayor of Druskininkai Municipality Ricardas Malinauskas. “Druskininkai is the oldest and the most modern resort of Lithuania. We have come a long road and accrued a lot of invaluable experience and authentic knowledge in the sphere of tourism and wellness.
For those who have discovered Druskininkai in its most proper times, I would like to remind that a few decades ago the resort was on the edge of bankruptcy. Thanks to the effort of the citizens of Druskininkai, the city is a blooming and beloved city again. We have worked very hard but the exact process was so interesting! I am sure, that you have to share the success and knowledge you have gained. We have a lot to be proud of in tourism sector – starting with the unique objects, and with one of the most favorable conditions in the country for small business. I have no doubt that for those who have an interest in tourism, the knowledge, and skills of the people, working at Druskininkai, are interesting and useful. I am very glad that the experience of Druskininkai interests not only the students from Lithuania but from other countries as well. I hope that they will bring out only the best impressions, profession-related knowledge and will come back to visit again and again. ” – he said.
The purpose of this practice is not only to share knowledge. For those who are interested in tourism – the city of Druskininkai, as the Mayor mentioned, is a real treasure. The students here were surrounded by a safe, warm environment and also were given some unforgettable adventures for which they didn’t even have to look far away – they had a chance to explore and have fun right ahead.
Surely, a challenging job was not the only thing all of the students found here. They played golf in Vilkes golf place, went totally crazy in Uno adventure park, tried water slides in a pond called Alkos, and of course got to know Druskininkai in its history museum. For the first time in their life’s they have seen the traditions of baking “tree cakes”, in Lithuanian language called “šakotis”.
After all those adventures, they have spent time in Karolis Dineika Wellness Park, tried cable cars and even went Nordic walking. Later on, they had a chance to relax in a water park.
Exceptionally in the resort of Druskininkai, all of the students had a chance to combine their work and leisure time into one big experience.
They have worked in one of the biggest places, like Druskininkai recreation and health center “Aqua”, the center of tourism and business information of Druskininkai, Grand Spa Lithuania, medical Spa “Egle” and hotel “Goda”. Everyone who was related shared their experiences.
So how did it go? How Druskininkai looks through the eyes of Romanian students? About all of this, we created a story from even five parts. Follow the news to know what they had to face while staying here, in Druskininkai resort.

Lithuania Aims to Draw in Investors with Corporation Tax Holiday Ahead of Euro Adoption
Lithuania is the largest economy out of the three Baltic states and is set to become the 19th country in the European Union to adopt the euro.
Earlier this month, EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn said at a press conference that Lithuania's readiness to adopt the euro reflects its long-standing pursuit of prudent fiscal policies and serious economic reforms.
This reform momentum, driven partly by Lithuania's EU accession 10 years ago, has led, in fact, to a striking increase in the prosperity of Lithuanians.
Meanwhile, Arvydas Arnasius, Acting Director General at Invest Lithuania told IBTimes TV that the country is primed to draw in more business from abroad and is an optimal place for more foreign direct investment (FDI).
He adds that companies that decide to build their business in the country would benefit from a six year break from corporation tax, which is at 15% currently, in a bid to bring in more firms to set up shop.

Grybauskaite - cultural tourism -- unused opportunity of Lithuania
Lithuania president leads nation's economic revival. As part of a working tour of the country's five regions to further invigorate the economy, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite visited Aukstaitija to discuss the development of cultural tourism in the northeast highland area. Visiting as well Aukstaitija's estate, which had been the residence of a former Lithuanian president, Her Excellency stated that the country's many unique and culturally rich heritage sites, ranging from manors and castles to natural landscapes, could be revived to create new tourism and recreational business opportunities.
President Dalia Grybauskaite has been leading her nation toward a self-sufficient path of economic security after it became among the most impacted by the European Union's second-deepest recession in 2009. As a former state vice-minister of foreign affairs as well as finance minister and the European Commissioner for Financial Programming & the Budget, Her Excellency's capability in the area of economics is considerable. Under her administration, over 3.3 million co-citizens rallied in cooperation for a necessary austerity budget program, with decisions made by the conservative government that carefully took into account the concerns of the Lithuanian labor unions. The Baltic state is now on track to adopting the euro by 2014 while reducing its deficit to just 3% of the country's total goods and services by 2012. Other favorable signals include a steady increase in retail sales and a rapid improvement in exports.
At the recent European Union Council meeting in Belgium, Supreme Master Television asked Her Excellency to share her thoughts about the country's accomplishments.
(Interview in English)
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite (F): I am happy to hear that evaluation from outside is that we are very successful. In reality, all the Baltic states, we have been going under pressure of huge and very strategic and radical economic reforms. They were very fast, very rapid and very deep, while of course, we got not only good results but also tensions and social tensions, and not always well and good acceptance by our population. So we also paid a price of popularity, for example, of governments, diversification of society. All this we paid as all countries who are under huge pressure of economic reforms. But I am happy that our countries were able to survive in this financial downturn. And in general, we were able to manage ourselves. We were able to go through and I'm looking forward that already this year and the beginning of next year, Lithuania's economy will be on a recovery path.
VOICE: Our respectful admiration Your Excellency President Dalia Grybauskaite and Lithuania on revitalizing your economy in challenging times through trust and collaboration. May all world nations prosper through such courageous leadership that upholds the best interests of co-citizens.

SUMMARY
=======
Lithuania ( (listen); Lithuanian: Lietuva [lʲɪɛtʊˈvɐ]), officially the Republic of Lithuania (Lithuanian: Lietuvos Respublika), is a country in the Baltic region of northern-eastern Europe. Since its independence, Lithuania has been referred to as one of the Baltic states. It is situated along the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea, to the east of Sweden and Denmark. It is bordered by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the south, and Kaliningrad Oblast (a Russian exclave) to the southwest. Lithuania has an estimated population of 2.8 million people as of 2017, and its capital and largest city is Vilnius. Other major cities are Kaunas and Klaipėda. Lithuanians are a Baltic people. The official language, Lithuanian, along with Latvian, is one of only two living languages in the Baltic branch of the Indo-European language family.
For centuries, the southeastern shores of the Baltic Sea were inhabited by various Baltic tribes. In the 1230s, the Lithuanian lands were united by Mindaugas, the King of Lithuania, and the first unified Lithuanian state, the Kingdom of Lithuania, was created on 6 July 1253. During the 14th century, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the largest country in Europe; present-day Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, and parts of Poland and Russia were the territories of the Grand Duchy. With the Lublin Union of 1569, Lithuania and Poland formed a voluntary two-state union, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Commonwealth lasted more than two centuries, until neighbouring countries systematically dismantled it from 1772 to 1795, with the Russian Empire annexing most of Lithuania's territory.
As World War I neared its end, Lithuania's Act of Independence was signed on 16 February 1918, declaring the founding of the modern Republic of Lithuania. In the midst of the Second World War, Lithuania was first occupied by the Soviet Union and then by Nazi Germany. As World War II neared its end and the Germans retreated, the Soviet Union reoccupied Lithuania. On 11 March 1990, a year before the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union, Lithuania became the first Baltic state to declare itself independent, resulting in the restoration of an independent State of Lithuania.
Lithuania is a member of the European Union, the Council of Europe, eurozone, Schengen Agreement, NATO and OECD. It is also a member of the Nordic Investment Bank, and part of Nordic-Baltic cooperation of Northern European countries. The United Nations Human Development Index lists Lithuania as a very high human development country.

EBU Lithuania Selling Shit
Emigrants who leave Lithuania usually take a lot of cans with food or beer, but now they can even take away a can with Lithuanian… cow shit. A special shop at Kaunas airport is selling these cans as souvenirs.
Sigitas Mankus who is selling cans with cow shit at Kaunas airport says that this souvenir is the best symbol to remind Lithuanians their villages.
A dried cow shit is stored in a clean and save way, but you can still smell a week sent of it which reminds Lithuanian village.
These excrements are brought from a special ecological farm near Klaipeda. They are very well dried and do not raise any ugly feelings.
The price of a can with cow shit was 4.05 EUR (14 Litas), but now it is cheaper – 2.89 EUR (10 Litas).
Sellers say that at first they made a thousand cans with cow shit, but no they see that it is far more popular than Lithuanian air, sea water, sand or even amber.

An example of shit for selling
Soundbite (Lithuanian), SIGITAS MANKUS, a business man who sells cow shit at Kaunas airport:
At first we created Lithuanian pure air. But when we consulted with friends living abroad what they would like to see on that can, they told that they want a Lithuanian girl, fields and a cow. And then we made an idea what they really lack.

Soundbite (Lithuanian), SIGITAS MANKUS, a business man who sells cow shit at Kaunas airport:
The technique is a secret, but there is no bad smell or anything bad that you can image, it's really good and clean, and you can put it on a plate on a table.
(Reporter advises not to put on a table it and then asks if the demand is good at the airport.)
Yes, people tend to buy it very much.

Yes, it's from ecological farm (laughs). This thing is dried in a sun and truly nothing bad is there.
More cutaways of cans
Soundbite (Lithuanian), SIGITAS MANKUS, a business man who sells cow shit at Kaunas airport:
My guess would be that those people who buy it want to bring it to their friends living abroad to increase their mood to ease their longing of a country, and this is a more interesting gift.
