WANDERING AROUND IRELAND - Dublin, Malahide, Howth, Wicklow Mountains
Green fields, castles, ancient celtic ruins and heather moorlands: this is what Ireland is made of. We wandered around Dublin, having the best pints of Guinness ever and we discovered the rugged wilderness of inland County Wicklow. We ventured though the east coast, taking pictures of the tiny fishing village of Howth and having a stroll in downtown Malahide.
Now get ready & enjoy the tour!

Wild Camping in the Dublin Mountains | Microadventure Ireland
Another Microadventure in Ireland and this time on top of Tibradden in the Dublin Mountains.
Background: My brother dropped me in the mountains tonight. It rained pretty hard as I walked the rest of the way up here but that made my piping-hot pasta bolognese taste even better at camp. I love camping so much and the sound of the rain beating off the fly sheet as I lay here reading a book. I'll walk down the mountain at sunrise and back to my brothers house for some toast and a cup of Barry's Tea.
It rained hard for most of the night but I fell asleep pretty early and only woke because of the many deer outside the tent. After packing everything up, I sat next to an ancient “fairy castle” at the top of the mountain and finished off the remains of a donut from the previous night. It was absolutely still and silent by now, and quite warm in spite of the foggy conditions. It took three hours to walk back down the mountain but only because I had to inspect every tree, river and stone along the way. I’m now enjoying a nice cup of Barry's Tea - it really is the little things that make me feel alive”
Just so you know, next week I will begin walking across Ireland on “The Great Blasket Trail”.

Irish Ghosthunters at the infamous Hellfire Club in the Dublin Mountains
The IGH Team spend the night at the Hellfire Club in the Dublin mountains. Soon to become a full online webisode on irishghosthunters.com this sequence shows Keith in the woods behind the building at around 4am reflecting on the night's events. Don't miss the full programme.
Unexpectedly the IGH team were called back to the Hellfire Club in October, 2010 to be a part of Dublin's FM104 live Halloween special phone in programme with Adrian Kennedy and Jeremy Dixon from the Hellfire Club.

The Hellfire Club - Debauchery in the Dublin Mountains
The Hellfire club is an 18th century ruin in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. The building has a scandalous history and is considered by some to be one of Ireland's most haunted locations. A few years ago Neil Jackman of Abarta Heritage led an archaeological excavation on the site. This podcast is an interview with Neil. He reveals the history behind this building, where the folklore and mythology originates and what he uncovered in the course of his excavations.

Scenic Wicklow Mountains/Historic Glendalough Monastery-Day Trip from Dublin, Ireland
We took a great day trip from Dublin to the beautiful Wicklow Mountains and the historic Glendalough Monastery with our singing tour guide. The scenic Wicklow mountains include a lot of bogs and streams-the Guinness family estate is here and the movie Braveheart was filmed in this area. The Glendalough monastery is several hundred years old and you can still see many of the old buildings, including the Round Tower, The Cathedral, the Priest's house, St. Kevin's Church, and the old cemetery. There is also a beautiful lake and green hills nearby.

A Wicklow Way and Dublin Mountains Walk, 28.9.15
A delightful 10.5 mile walk in the mountains and forests just a few miles outside Dublin.
Using the DART railway to get from the capital to Bray, a taxi was then required to get the walker to the start point, just beyond the wonderful village of Enniskerry (this walker's ancestral home).
Utilising The Wicklow Way, the walking is relatively easy for the first few miles, through commercial, coniferous forest, but, then it gets a bit more challenging approaching Glencullen Mountain (556m). There are some terrific views of the surrounding mountains and sea from up here.
Then, leaving the Wicklow Mountains, it's a descent into Glencullen Valley and Ballybrack, followed by another ascent up into the Dublin Mountains.
The Wicklow Way is left to join The Dublin Mountains Way, followed by lunch on a windy 'Fairy Castle' mountain (537m), with it's outstanding views over Dublin and The Irish Sea.
After, it's a slow descent via the TV/Radio masts at 'Three Rock' mountain and another coniferous forest section, before a bit of road walking (caution needed at times!) to the grand finale at 'Johnny Foxes' pub. Refreshment can then be had whilst awaiting the bus back to Dublin.
Highly recommended day walk when visiting Dublin. It's impossible to miss these mountains when down in the City, or approaching on the ferry, so here's a sample of what it looks like up there.
(Wind-affected commentary).
