19. Sailing from Dubrovnik to Korcula | Wine tasting in Croatia | Sailing Croatia
This week on Sailing Kawai we start our Croatian journey in Lopud, one of the Elaphiti Islands, a short 6nm sail from Dubrovnik. It has 2 beautiful anchorages and we enjoy some quiet time on this carless Island. After 48hrs on the water we enjoy exploring the land and have a great first impression of the area.
After 2 days in Lopud and some favourable winds we head towards Mljet. The day starts with some easy sailing, 15 knots of breeze and Kawai loves the conditions flying up the coast at between 7-8 knots. Unfortunately the winds change direction and we are forced to tack for a couple of hours in strong winds before we reach Miljet.
Mljet looks beautiful, but with strong 40 knot winds planned for the coming days we head to Korcula for a more protected anchorage and fit in some wine tasting in the wine region of Lombarda. The countryside is green with well manicured vineyards. We spend the day wine tasting at a couple of local wineries and love the experience.
We then sail the channel between Korcula and Orebic, watching the kite surfers and wind surfers enjoy the conditions. It would be our final sail to escape the strong winds. The conditions are perfect, 15 knots of down wind sailing with just the head sail. We then shelter ourselves in Scedro.
About us:
Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai.
We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Gibraltar, Canary Islands and then across the Atlantic Ocean.
Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :)

Head south to diminutive coastal Montenegro on this day trip from Dubrovnik. Take a scenic drive on the southern Dalmatian Coast and experience small Adriatic villages and towns, including the UNESCO-listed Kotor, situated in Europe’s southernmost fjord. Admire Sveti Stefan, a medieval island turned luxury hotel, and spend some time in Budva, a walled medieval town on the sea, like a mini Dubrovnik. Finish with a ferry ride back to Dubrovnik. Get picked up at your hotel in Dubrovnik and then hop inside the air-conditioned vehicle to make the drive south to Montenegro. Drink in the views of the Adriatic Sea and the Dubrovnik Riviera and learn about the history and culture of the area from your local guide. After crossing the border to Montenegro, twist and turn with the road, going around the large Bay of Kotor, and passing through charming villages along the way. Then stop in Perast, a lovely town at the base of St Elijah Hill. Consider taking the optional boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks island to check out the baroque-era church (at own expense). The next stop is Kotor, situated in a fjord and one of the most eye-pleasing Montenegrin towns. Once there, begin a walking tour that goes throughout the squares and narrow cobbled streets, taking you to historic churches such as the Cathedral of St Tryphon. Then take some free time to do some wandering — consider marching up the 1,350 steep steps to the San Giovanni Castle for an incredible view and photo opportunity — or sit down for a drink or a snack (at own expense). After Kotor, drive down the coast further until you reach Sveti Stefan (St Stephen). Once a medieval fishing village with a small inlet connecting it to the mainland, Sveti Stefani is now a luxury hotel. After gawking at the island-turned-resort, head to Budva, a 15-minute drive north of Sveti Stefan. This gorgeous walled city on the sea boasts attractive beaches and narrow cobbled streets. Take some free time to explore or sit down for a meal (at own expense). Take a ferry ride across the Bay of Kotor and then enjoy a final scenic drive along the coastal roads of Montenegro to end your day. You’ll be returned to your Dubrovnik hotel.

BLUE CAVE TOUR. Croatia is Incredible!
We make our way from the Croatian Island of Hvar to Vis by doing a boat tour. During our day on the boat we visit a green cave, and the blue lagoon on the island of Budihovac where to stop to admire the incredible view. We also go to Stiniva Beach, considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Europe. Lastly we go to the island of Biševo, where we switch into a smaller boat to go into the blue cave.

City of Hvar:
The city of Hvar is a unique fusion of luxurious Mediterranean nature, rich cultural and historical heritage, and mundane, tourist present. It is situated in picturesque nature, facing the southern, side of the world that has given it all Mediterranean attraction and cheerfulness; facing sea, that gave it splendid and repeatable history, Hvar is an inexhaustible treasury of the scenery, atmosphere and adventure. Its name derives from the Greek name for island and town, that stood where today Stari Grad (Hvar became an island’s centre in 13th century) stands - PHAROS.
Hvar gained glory and power during middle ages being an important port within the Venetian, naval empire. Today, it is centre of island’s tourism and one of the favourite destinations in Dalmatian riviera - a town of smiling and courteous people, who are almost only dedicated to tourism.

Green Cave:
The Green cave (Zelena Špilja) on the island of Ravnik near the bigger island of Vis. The cave is a natural attraction situated in the south-west part of Ravnik. During the day sun light passes through the small hole on the vault of the cave producing the fascinating green coulored surface of the sea within the cave. After this phenomenon the cave got its name. You may reach the cave either by boat or simply swimming into it. Anyhow you will enjoy being there experiencing the fabulous beauty of light and sea.
Blue Cave:
A visit to Modra Špilja (Blue Cave) on the island of Biševo will certainly impress you and stay in your memory for a long time. The miraculous play of sunlight which reflects from the white bottom creates a fascinating blue light that lights up the cave above and below the sea surface, the item submerged in the water get a sliver glow. The island of Biševo with its romantic shores, vineyards and scents of pine forests is a real paradise for relaxing.
Stiniva Beach:
On the south side of the Croatian island Vis has been voted the most beautiful beach in Europe by the European Best Destinationswebsite. The website’s visitors chose Stiniva among close to 300 most beautiful European beaches. Stiniva was named one of the 15 most beautiful European beaches by as many as 88% of the 10,000 voters, while 66% voted it the most beautiful beach
Biševo:
An island in the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. It is situated in the middle of the Dalmatian archipelago, five kilometers southwest of the Island of Vis. Its area is 5.8 km² and it has a population of 15.

CROATIA VLOG || A Long Weekend In Split, Hvar & Dubrovnik || Run Char
Croatia Travel Vlog (Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik) Summer 2017
In June 2017, I went to Croatia for 5 days with my sister. We split our time between Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik. Here are some of the things we did during our stay:
SPLIT:
Croatia's second-largest city, Split, has the perfect balance of tradition and modernity. It's home to dozens of bars, restaurants, shops, markets and beaches, whilst still having thousands of years worth of history to explore.
Places to visit include The Cathedral of St Domnius, Diocletian's Palace, Marjan Forest Park, Peristyle Square, Basement Halls of Diocletian's Palace and The Markets.
For excellent views of Split, hike up Marjan Forest Park or pay a small fee to climb the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius (181 step stairs to the top).
There are also small beaches, museums, the infamous Krka Waterfalls and wineries.
HVAR:
Hvar (probably my favourite place in Croatia) is a stunning, small bay town a few hours away from the mainland. Hvar has a number of beautiful beaches, lots of nice restaurants/cafes and great nightlife!!!
My top recommendations for Hvar, is walking/climbing from the town centre to the Fortress. Here you can see incredible views of Hvar and the bay area.
The blue and green cave tour is a day trip that's also worth doing! The first stop on the tour is the Green Cave, where we got the chance to get out and swim. It was then off to the hidden inlet called Stiniva for some sunbathing and swimming, before making our way to the Blue Cave (which was INCREDIBLE!!). After seeing the Blue Caves, wee were taken to the island of Vis and a fishing village, Komiza, before ending the day on the Paklinski Islands.

DUBROVNIK:
We only had an evening and morning in Dubrovnik, but managed to see most of its Old Town. Encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th Century, Dubrovnik's Old Town is filled with small markets, bars, museums and restaurants.
Other points of interest include Fort Minceta and Fort Bokar, Pile Gate, the numerous walking tours (including ghost tours, game of thrones tour and old vs new city tours) and the stunning bay area.
It was really easy (and fairly cheap) to travel between the Islands and mainland.
Hope you enjoy this and please like/subscribe for more videos soon.

Even though it was mid October when we were here, we had a great week of Indian summer weather. It was sunny and warm and completely uncrowded! We swam in the Adriatic sea and relaxed at calm anchorages.
