The Palace of the Dukes and Estates of Burgundy or Palais des ducs et des États de Bourgogne is a remarkably well-preserved architectural assemblage in Dijon. The oldest part is the 14th and 15th century Gothic ducal palace and seat of the Dukes of Burgundy, made up of a logis still visible on place de la Liberation, the ducal kitchens on cour de Bar, the tour de Philippe le Bon, a guette overlooking the whole city, and tour de Bar. Most of what can be seen today, however, was built in the 17th and especially the 18th centuries, in a classical style, when the palace was a royal residence building and housed the estates of Burgundy. Finally, the 19th façade of the musée on place de la Sainte-Chapelle was added on the site of the palace's Sainte-Chapelle, demolished in 1802. The Palace houses the city's town hall and the musée des Beaux-Arts.

The Duchy of Burgundy was founded in the 9th century, around the year 880, from the Kingdom of Burgundy by the Carolingian kings of France, Louis III and Carloman II, and the Princes who shared the Carolingian Empire, after reorganizing the entire kingdom into duchies and counties. Richard, Count of Autun, known as Richard the Justiciar, was named the first Margrave and Duke of Burgundy. He was one of the six in the French Peerage installed under his suzerain, King Louis III of France.

The palace turned into a Royal residence when the Duchy of Burgundy was occupied by the Kingdom of France after the death of Charles the Bold, in 1477, and the treaty of Arras of 1482 between the king Louis XI and Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor.
The ducal tombs were reinstalled in the Salle de garde following the razing of the Chartreuse de Champmol. During the 2010–12 renovation of the palace, a number of sculptures from tombs have traveled on exhibit.

The distinguished 1787 Musée des Beaux-Arts, housed in the vast Palace of the Dukes, holds a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, crafts and antiquities.

Dijon is one of France's most appealing cities. Filled with elegant medieval and Renaissance buildings, the lively centre is wonderful for strolling, especially if you like to leaven your cultural enrichment with excellent food, fine wine and shopping. Dijon is perhaps best known for its mustard (named after the town), which is no longer produced locally, but it is still one of the most beautiful cities in France, and its historic buildings and byways were not heavily damaged by bombing in World War Two and are largely intact. The surroundings is also an important wine production region, and Dijon has historically been the centre for regulatory bodies for wine production (some wine classification systems were invented here) and therefore the historical centre of Dijon forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Climats, terroirs of Burgundy. Dijon was for some time the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy. Burgundy was a great power during the 14th and 15th centuries, when the dukes controlled a large part of what is now northeastern France, western Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The dukes were great patrons of the arts, so Dijon was a major centre of Gothic and early Renaissance music, painting, and sculpture, attracting some of the greatest and most famous artists and musicians from Flanders in particular. The music the great composers left behind can be performed anywhere, but it is particularly in the fields of sculpture and architecture that masters left a lasting mark on Dijon. Today, Dijon is a cosmopolitan city, with universities in the centre and industrial plants on the outskirts. Traffic is restricted in the centre of the city, so many parts of central Dijon are quiet and relaxing.

Dijon is a city in eastern France, capital of the Côte-d'Or département and of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. The earliest archaeological finds within the city limits of Dijon date to the Neolithic period. Dijon later became a Roman settlement named Divio, located on the road from Lyon to Paris. The province was home to the Dukes of Burgundy from the early 11th until the late 15th centuries and Dijon was a place of tremendous wealth and power.

Dijon architecture is distinguished by, among other things, toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs) made of tiles glazed in terracotta, green, yellow and black and arranged in geometric patterns. Dijon holds an International and Gastronomic Fair every year in autumn. With over 500 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors every year, it is one of the ten most important fairs in France. Dijon is also home, every three years, to the international flower show Florissimo. Dijon is famous for Dijon mustard which originated in 1856, when Jean Naigeon of Dijon substituted verjuice, the acidic green juice of not-quite-ripe grapes, for vinegar in the traditional mustard recipe.

Dijon has a large number of churches, including Notre Dame de Dijon, St. Philibert, St. Michel, and Dijon Cathedral, dedicated to the apocryphal Saint Benignus, the crypt of which is over 1,000 years old. Dijon is home to many museums, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon in part of the Ducal Palace. The church of Notre Dame is famous for both its art and architecture. Popular legend has it that one of its stone relief sculptures, an owl (la chouette) is a good-luck charm

The Grand Théâtre de Dijon, built in 1828 and one of the main performing venues of the Opéra de Dijon, was declared a monument historique of France in 1975. It was designed by the Dijon-born architect Jacques Cellerier (1742–1814) in the Neo-classical style with an interior modelled on Italian opera houses.

Dijon France - The Impressive Notre Dame de Dijon and Local Dijon Mustard Shops. Dijon is a modern, growing city with a well-designed boat harbor. It is the center of Côte d'Or and was the ancient capital of Burgundy in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Visitors can wend their way through the narrow streets of the old quarter and may be drawn to the city's numerous museums; the Ducal Palace, which opens onto the square; the Parliament Building; and the 13th century Cathedral St-Bénigne, with its Romanesque crypt.

A number of the buildings in Dijon sport roofs with glazed tiles of varied colors and patterns. And of course the mustard merchants sell their wares in beautiful faïence jars. The recipe for the world-famous condiment dates to the 4th century AD.

Burgundy

Burgundy boasts some of the world's finest wines with around 60,000 acres of sunlit vines and arguably the prettiest canals in France. The Burgundy Canal winds its way in smooth curves through the heart of renowned wine growing areas such as Chablis, Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, or rises steeply through a flight of locks that appear like staircases.

The Nivernais Canal meanders alongside the picturesque River Yonne, through a largely undiscovered region near the Morvan Hills, passing sleepy villages and Charolais cattle grazing in the lush pastures. This is the original home of hotel barging with its hand-swung bridges and old logging sites, and where time seems to have stood still for centuries.

The landscape around the Burgundy Canal is one of rolling hills eroded over the centuries and covered in forests of oak, maple and pine and where spring, summer and autumn each leave a unique signature. Medieval towns are surrounded by unspoilt countryside and the wonderful markets have stalls brimming with fresh local products cultivated on the fertile plains.

This is a region with a vast variety of cheeses, in all shapes, sizes and colours, strong in character or mild and fresh and all can be enjoyed with full-bodied red Burgundies, or perhaps with lighter white Chablis wines. Burgundy's gastronomic tradition is certainly rich and diverse and a sedate cruise on a hotel barge along one of its delightful waterways will allow you to indulge in good food and wine, two of the real pleasures in life.

What is hotel barging?

Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.

Le palais des ducs et des états de Bourgogne à Dijon en Côte-d'Or est un ensemble architectural comprenant plusieurs parties imbriquées : la plus ancienne est le palais ducal des xive siècle et xve siècle, de style gothique, qui comprend encore un logis (bien visible depuis la place des Ducs), les cuisines ducales (cour de Bar) et deux tours : la tour de la terrasse, ou tour Philippe le Bon et la tour de Bar. La plus grande partie des bâtiments visibles aujourd'hui a cependant été bâtie aux xviie et surtout xviiie siècles, dans un style classique, avec le dessin de la place royale, aujourd'hui place de la Libération. Enfin, la façade du musée des Beaux-Arts, sur la place de la Sainte-Chapelle, a été élevée au xixe siècle à l'emplacement de la Sainte-Chapelle de Dijon détruite en 1802. Cet ensemble, dans un remarquable état de conservation, témoigne de presque un millénaire de vie politique à Dijon.

Le Palais fut le siège des souverains de l'État bourguignon, les ducs de Bourgogne. Classé au titre des monuments historiques par la liste de 1862 et par arrêté de 19261, il abrite aujourd'hui la mairie de Dijon et le musée des beaux-arts de Dijon.

Dijon est la capitale de la Bourgogne, région historique du centre-est de la France et l'un des principaux territoires viticoles du pays. Elle est connue pour les visites de ses vignobles, sa foire gastronomique en automne et ses styles architecturaux, du gothique à l'art déco. Dijon est une commune française située entre le bassin parisien et le bassin rhodanien, à 310 kilomètres au sud-est de Paris et 190 kilomètres au nord de Lyon. C'est la préfecture du département de la Côte-d'Or et le chef-lieu de la région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Elle est également l'ancienne capitale des ducs de Bourgogne et de la région administrative de Bourgogne. Ses habitants sont appelés les Dijonnais.

Dijon est actuellement la commune la plus peuplée du département de la Côte-d'Or et de la Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. En 2014, la population de Dijon intra-muros est de 153 668 habitants. La ville est, en 2014, la 17e commune la plus peuplée de France. Capitale du duché de Bourgogne aux xive et xve siècles, ville aux cent clochers5 sous l'Ancien Régime, héritière d'un riche patrimoine historique et architectural, Dijon est une cité touristique dont l'attrait est renforcé par la réputation gastronomique de la région. La ville est définie comme Zone Touristique Internationale (ZTI) depuis l'été 2016. C'est aussi une ville verte au secteur tertiaire important, capitale de région dans les domaines scolaire, universitaire, judiciaire, hospitalier et administratif, qui assurent une tradition intellectuelle. Dijon est également un centre économique régional au tissu diversifié avec un pôle agroalimentaire traditionnel (moutarde de Dijon, crème de cassis de Dijon et kir, pain d'épices, chocolat Lanvin…) et un secteur pharmaceutique réputé.

Ville de congrès, la capitale de la Bourgogne-Franche-Comté est située sur l'axe Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée et sur la ligne ferroviaire à grande vitesse Rhin-Rhône.

Le centre historique de la ville est la seconde composante des climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, inscrits depuis le 4 juillet 2015 au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

The Tour Philippe le Bon (or Tower Terrace ) of the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy in Dijon in Côte-d'Or is a tower style Classical and Renaissance of the xv th century under the Duke of Burgundy Philip the Good.

This tower of 46 meters high and 6 floors was built between 1450 and 1460 by the architect Jean Poncelet, on an ancient tower called Brancion ( xii th century ) which itself was to be built on an ancient tower of a Gallo-Roman castrum .

A spiral staircase of 316 steps served the ducal dwelling and ended with a pretty vault of quadripartite warheads resting on a helical column and on pedestal carved on the walls. Watchtower overlooking Dijon in the beginning, it becomes progressively a symbolic tower of power and power of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Burgundy state. At the top a unique panoramic view of Dijon.

Dans le cadre du programme national Nutrition santé voulu par le ministère de la Santé et des Sports, la ville de Dijon a organisé la première édition du festival Les toqués du goût du 29 au 31 octobre 2010. Un concours de cuisine amateur se déroulant au stand des Rencontres gourmandes de Lucullus samedi 30 octobre, au cœur de la Foire internationale et gastronomique de Dijon, était l'événement phare de ce festival. Trois candidates représentant l'Alsace, la Lorraine et la Bourgogne ont été jugées sur la création d'un repas complet et équilibré pour quatre personnes sans dépasser un budget de 16 euros. SUBSCRIBE: - The Church of Notre-Dame of Dijon is a Roman Catholic church in Dijon. Considered a masterpiece of 13th-century Gothic architecture, it is situated at the heart of the preserved old centre of the city. It is in Place Notre-Dame, near the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and opposite the rue Musette.

Work on the church began around 1230. The church contains the statue of Notre-Dame de Bon-Espoir, formerly called the Black Madonna. The church's decorations also include two symbols of Dijon: the jacquemart (bell-striking automaton) and the owl. The church was classified as a Monument Historique in the List of historic monuments of 1840. The chapel of the Assumption, the sacristy, and the gallery that links them have been listed as Monuments Historiques since 5 July 2002.
