Florence on the evening of September 11, 2018
Environmental conditions became increasingly conducive to reorganization on September 8 as NOAA Hurricane Hunters began reconnaissance of the cyclone.[29] Convective banding blossomed around the storm and a formative eye appeared on satellite imagery.[30] The storm's central dense overcast became more defined, and a complete eyewall developed within its core. Florence reattained hurricane-status by 15:00 UTC on September 9, with the Hurricane Hunters observing 76 mph (122 km/h) sustained winds at the surface.[31] Fueled by sea surface temperatures of 84 to 85 °F (29 to 29.5 °C), Florence rapidly intensified overnight. Convective bursts with frequent lightning surrounded the eyewall,[32] giving rise to a well-defined 12 mi (19 km) wide eye. Expanding outflow ventilated the cyclone, enabling continued growth.[33] The system rapidly re-achieved Category 4 intensity by 16:00 UTC, with reconnaissance aircraft recording surface winds near 130 mph (215 km/h) and a central pressure of 946 mbar (hPa; 27.93 inHg).[34] At 21:00 UTC, Florence surpassed its previous peak intensity and achieved maximum sustained winds of 140 mph (220 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 939 mbar (hPa; 27.73 inHg).[35] Florence's strengthening phase halted afterward, however, as the system underwent an eyewall replacement cycle, a process in which an outer eyewall forms around the inner eyewall and the inner eyewall weakens and dissipates, usually resulting in a brief weakening phase.[36] Late on September 11, Florence completed the eyewall replacement cycle and began to restrengthen.[37]

Maximum sustained winds are 104 knots (110 mph, 175 km/h), with gusts to 130 knots (140 mph; 225 km/h). e Hatteras National Seashore. It is also the nearest landmass on the US mainland to Bermuda, which is about 563 nautical miles (648 mi; 1,043 km) to the east-southeast.
The treacherous waters off the coast of the Outer Banks is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic, Over 600 ships wrecked here as victims of shallow shoals, storms, and war. Diamond Shoals, a bank of shifting sand ridges hidden beneath the turbulent sea off Cape Hatteras, has never promised safe passage for ships. In the past 400 years the graveyard has claimed many lives, but island villagers saved many. As early as the 1870s, villagers served in the US Life-Saving Service. Others staffed lighthouses built to guide mariners. Few ships wreck today, but storms still uncover the ruins of the old wrecks that lie along the beaches of the Outer Banks.

Rice - America's Heartland: Episode 904
Reporter Sarah Gardner says if you're eating more rice in your meals these days, you're not alone. Thanks to consumers with more adventurous tastes and changes in America's ethnic makeup, rice consumption has grown dramatically. Rice farmers in Louisiana bring in a double harvest in their rice fields: rice and bright red crawfish. Meet an Arkansas farmer raising special rice for Japanese diners. And a California rice grower gets some help from school children in saving wild duck eggs.
