Everest Base camp trek is one of the most famous treks in Nepal Himalayas.
The scenic route takes you from along the banks of Dudh Koshi River, through rhododendron forest, until reaching to khumbu glacier where Everest Base camp is located. Here are some breathtaking views of the trek. Gokyo lakes are Ramsar sites and very important high altitude water-body.
Sagarmatha National Park NEPAL.mp4
Sagarmāthā National Park is a protected area in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal containing the southern half of Mount Everest. The park was created on July 19, 1976 and was inscribed as a Natural World Heritage Site in 1979. Sagarmāthā is a Sanskrit word, from sagar = sky (not to be confused with sea/ocean) and māthā = forehead or head, and is the modern Nepali name for Mount Everest.
The park encompasses an area of 1,148 km2 (443 sq mi) in the Solukhumbu District and ranges in elevation from 2,845 m (9,334 ft) at Jorsalle to 8,848 m (29,029 ft) at the summit of Mount Everest.[1] Barren land above 5,000 m (16,000 ft) comprises 69% of the park while 28% is grazing land and the remaining 3% is forested. Most of the park area is very rugged and steep, with its terrain cut by deep rivers and glaciers. Unlike other parks, this park can be divided into four climate zones because of the rising altitude. The climatic zones include a forested lower zone, a zone of alpine scrub, the upper alpine zone which includes upper limit of vegetation growth, and the Arctic zone where no plants can grow. The types of plants and animals that are found in the park depend on the altitude. The park contains the upper watershed of the Dudh Kosi river basin system.
The park's visitor centre is located at the top of a hill in Namche Bazaar, also where a company of the Nepal Army is stationed for protecting the park. The park's southern entrance is a few hundred metres north of Monzo at 2,835 m (9,301 ft), a one day hike from Lukla.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar Everest Trek Nepal
Phakding to Namche Bazaar Everest Trek
After leaving Phakding, the trail passes by the Sherpa Shangrila Resort, a waterfall before Tok Tok, thru Benkar and crosses the Dudh Kosi to Monjo and the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park.
After passing thru a beautifully painted kani gate, the trail descends with a waterfall in the distance before crossing the Dudh Kosi River to Jorsale. Khumbila can be seen from beyond Jorsale just before crossing the Dudh Kosi one more time. The trail then climbs up and down and up to the most exciting bridge crossing - the Larja Bridge high above the confluence of the Bhote Kosi and Dudh Kosi rivers.
After crossing the bridge the trail ascends steeply. I looked back down the valley to the southeast to see Kusum Kanguru high above the ridges and Tawache to the northeast. The trail then becomes more gentle as it ascends thru forest with views of the long sometimes jagged ridge of Kongde.
After 70 minutes, I arrived at the first house of Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar (3440m) is the unofficial capital of the Khumbu region of Nepal.
Tengi Ragi Tau came into view to the west and Kongde came perfectly into view as I walked thru Namche.

Crossing a suspension bridge in Sagarmatha National Park
Mountaineers cross a swinging bridge on their way through the Sagarmatha National Park, to Everest Base Camp...
Mountaineers heading towardsEverest. Located in the Himalayas Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain above sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). At the higher regions of Mount Everest, climbers seeking the summit typically spend substantial time within the death zone (altitudes higher than 8,000 m/26,246 ft), and face significant challenges to survival. Temperatures can dip to very low levels, resulting in frostbite of any body part exposed to the air. Since temperatures are so low, snow is well-frozen in certain areas and death or injury by slipping and falling can occur.

Everesters cross long suspension bridge from Nunthala to Bupsa, across Dudh Kosi River
Expedition members crossing the long suspension bridge from Nunthala to Bupsa, across Dudh Kosi river during Mount Everest expedition in Nepal.
Indian Army added another feather to its cap in May 2001, when its mountaineers successfully scaled Mount Everest and put a record eight members and seven Sherpas on the summit. This is the largest number of summiteers on Mount Everest in an Indian expedition.
The mighty mountain ranges of the Himalayas have, over the centuries, inspired not only man's imagination and spiritual quest, but also his spirit of adventure. Mount Everest, the tallest of the peaks of the Himalayas as also the whole world, stood in its unattainable isolation for thousands of years, till Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary conquered it in 1953. Since then, at least a thousand climbers have set foot on it. That at least 200 have lost their lives while trying to scale the peak speaks of the infinite dangers involved in the task.
The Indian Army Mount Everest Expedition was flagged off by the Chief of the Army Staff on 1st March 2001 at New Delhi. It was led by Col. Krishan Kumar. After flagging off, the team moved to Nepal and after a long trek from Jiri, reached Base Camp of Everest on 3rd April 2001.
The stocking and establishment of various camps was completed by 10th May 2001 and summit attempts were planned for 14-15 May. However, bad weather forced the team to return to Base Camp from Camp-II. Weather remained bad for a few days. Finally on 19th May the team started from the Base Camp for their final attempt to reach the summit. On 20th May the first summit team reached Camp-HI and the next day they reached South Col around 1300 hours. The same night the summit attempt started. After making their way through severe winds and subfreezing conditions, the first party consisting of seven members and three Sherpas finally reached the summit of Everest on 23rd May between 0720 hours and 0845 hours. The second team comprising one member and four Sherpas left Camp-Ill around 0630 hours on 23rd May and reached the summit of Mount Everest around 0545 hours on 24th May 2001.
Smooth de-induction to the Base Camp was subsequently carried out wherein all the camps were closed. In keeping with the Indian Army's care and concern for the protection of the environment, all waste was brought down from the mountain.
