Russia: Revolutionary new laser display in Tomsk
Laboratory in Tomsk State University demonstrated a new type of strontium vapour high precision laser on Wednesday, which can be used for both industrial and medical purposes.
University professor Anatoli Soldatov stated that his laboratory was the first who got the strontium vapour laser irradiance and we continue our research for more than ten years.” The discovery is unique due to the ray quality of the strontium vapour laser is three times better than the most popular CO2 laser which makes surface asperity a 1000 times better,” according to Soldatov.

Sentsov's family never asked Putin to release him, - sister
Oleg Sentsov's relatives did not ask Russian president Putin to release the Ukrainian filmmaker before the start of FIFA World Cup in Russia. Natalya Kaplan, Sentsov's sister posted this on Facebook. Thus, she denied the previous piece of information that appeared in the media.
'I responsibly claim that I have never turned to Putin; I don't even know where it comes from. Maybe they just misunderstood me', she wrote.
Thus, she denied the previous piece of information that appeared in the media.
'We have so little time left... I very much hope that Putin makes the decision to release him and all Ukrainian political prisoners before the World Cup', one of the outlets quoted Kaplan as saying.
Ukrainian political prisoner, sentenced to 20-years-long imprisonment in Russia, announced a hunger strike on May 14. This way, he demands that all Ukrainians detained in Russia and annexed Crimea be released. Sentsov said he was ready to die if the requirements were not fulfilled.

Russia: Buk missile system crib sold to order by St Petersburg company
The Russian CaroBus company launched the production of a children's bed shaped like a Buk anti-aircraft missile system, which was displayed in there shop in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
SOT, Anton Koppel, CaroBus, CEO (Russian): This thing was ordered by a former PVO serviceman, I guess, for his child. This is a mobile air defense system, as far as we understand. So this weapon is defensive but not offensive. It stands guard for a peaceful sky.
SOT, Anton Koppel, CaroBus, CEO (Russian): We certainly do not propagate violence or extremism, we never had that in mind. We have nothing to do with politics, we are not journalists. We are just furniture makers, so we only create what customers want.

Russia MP: US media meddling in our politics
(19 May 2017) The head of a Russian parliamentary committee is accusing some American news outlets of trying to influence Russia's politics.
In the wake of widespread claims that Russia tried to influence the US presidential race, Russia's State Duma this year began examining the operations of certain US media organisations broadcasting to Russia.
They included Voice of America, Radio Liberty and CNN.
Leonid Levin, chairman of the Duma committee on information policy, said Friday during a synopsis of the committee's work that there were attempts to interfere in Russia through funds and grants by the American government.
He later said the investigation would continue and that the head of the Federal Security Service would be called to testify.

Russia tightening migrant rules
To discuss some of the aspects of migration in today's Russia, euronews spoke with Vladimir Vasiliev, an MP with the United Russia party [conservative, led by current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin].
Vladimir Vasiliev is also the head of the Duma parliament's security committee.
Serguei Doubine, euronews: Russia's liberal-democrat party introduced a bill slapping migrants with up to three years in jail for refusing to leave Russia. Your party was among those which blocked it. What is United Russia's position on migration?

State deputies duma of the Russian Federation 12/17/2019 ratified the agreement on the recruitment of citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan for temporary employment for a period of up to 2 years, with a further extension of their employment. It turns out that the entire working-age population in the Russian Federation is employed, receives competitive wages, but lacks working hands (feet). Therefore, due to the shortage of labor resources of citizens of the Russian Federation, they will be supplemented by an enhanced reserve of this Asian country. In other words, the Russians do not like hunchback for $ 300 for a 12-hour working day somewhere in the Tomsk or Chita provinces? Do not worry: you can safely quit, you will be replaced with pleasure for the same payment, only with a working day of 25 hours. Paper clips are cracking, New Year's magic is approaching. We smile, rejoice, everything will be fine in the beautiful Russia of the future.

It is home to the Ostankino Tower the tallest free standing structure in Europe, Mercury City Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Europe and the Moscow International Business Center. It is the largest city in Russia, with a population, according to the 2010 Census, of 11,503,501. By its territorial expansion on 1 July 2012 southwest into the Moscow Oblast, the capital increased its area 2.5 times; from about 1,000 square kilometers (390 sq mi) up to 2,511 square kilometers (970 sq mi), and gained an additional population of 233,000 people.
Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia making it the world's most populated inland city. The city is well known for its unique architecture which consists of many different historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its brightly colored domes. With over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, it is one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world, having the largest forest in an urban area within its borders—more than any other major city—even before its expansion in 2012. In the course of its history the city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Soviet Union. Moscow is considered the center of Russian culture, having served as the home of prestigious Russian artists, scientists and sports figures during the course of its history and because of the presence of many different museums, academic and political institutions and theaters. Moscow is also the seat of power of the Government of Russia, being the site of the Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is today the residence of the Russian president. The Moscow Kremlin and the Red Square are also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Both chambers of the Russian parliament (the State Duma and the Federation Council) also sit in within the city.

Remembering Zhores Alferov
The Soviet Laureate
A FRIENDLY COLD WAR IN SEMICONDUCTOR TECHNOLOGY
Zhores Alferov was awarded one quarter of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics, along with Herbert Kroemer and Jack Kilby for his work in semiconductor heterostructures. Alferov and his team developed the first heterostructure electronic device in 1966, which proved a significant advance over the previous semiconductors composed of one kind of material. This paved the way for progress in fiberoptic communication and development of communication satellites, cellular telephones, bar code readers and other products. Alferov’s work was done in the Soviet Union almost simultaneously with similar work done independently at research centers in the United States.
15 March 1930 – 1 March 2019) was a Soviet and Russian physicist and academic who contributed significantly to the creation of modern heterostructure physics and electronics. He was the inventor of the heterotransistor and shared the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics. He also became a politician in his later life, serving in the lower house of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, as a member of the communist party since 1995.
Alferov was born in Vitebsk, Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union, to a Belarusian father, Ivan Karpovich Alferov, a factory manager, and a Jewish mother, Anna Vladimirovna Rosenblum.[1][2] He was named after French socialist Jean Jaurès while his older brother was named Marx after Karl Marx.[1] In 1947 he completed high school 42 in Minsk and started Belarusian Polytechnic Academy. In 1952, he graduated from V. I. Ulyanov (Lenin) Electrotechnical Institute in Leningrad. Starting in 1953 he worked in the Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From the Institute, he earned several scientific degrees: a Candidate of Sciences in Technology in 1961 and a Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics in 1970. He was director of the Institute from 1987 to 2003. He was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1972, and a full member in 1979. From 1989, he was Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences and President of its Saint Petersburg Scientific Center. Starting in 1995 he was a member of the State Duma on the list of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. In 2000 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics together with Herbert Kroemer, for developing semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed- and optoelectronics.
Alferov invented the heterotransistor. This coped with much higher frequencies than its predecessors, and apparently revolutionised the mobile phone and satellite communications. Alferov and Kroemer independently applied this technology to firing laser lights. This, in turn, revolutionised semiconductor design in a host of areas, including LEDs, barcode readers and CDs.
Hermann Grimmeiss of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awards Nobel prizes, said: Without Alferov, it would not be possible to transfer all the information from satellites down to the Earth or to have so many telephone lines between cities.
