Marine sanctuary in Romblon, Philippines
Coral reefs and marine protected areas provide shelter and habitat for many different marine life. The fishing industry relies on coral reefs because many kinds of fish spawn in these reefs and they stay there until they are ready to make their way out to the open seas. This means that the more we protect our reefs, the more fish there will be for everyone. Coral reefs are some of the most diverse ecosystems on earth supporting a surprisingly large amount of life. Coral reefs need to be protected. Respect the imposed restrictions placed on our sanctuaries. They significantly help restore the productivity of our surrounding waters which directly benefits everyone, but more especially those who make a living from fishing.

Wikipedia:
Freediving, free-diving, free diving, breath-hold diving, or skin diving is a form of underwater diving that relies on divers' ability to hold their breath until resurfacing rather than on the use of a breathing apparatus such as scuba gear.

Dive the Blue Hole in Romblon
A diving trip to the only known Blue Hole in the Philippines. Found near Romblon, actually closer to Tablas Island, it is a great dive, dropping down to almost 30 meters with a fantastic drift along a wall afterwards. A thoroughly enjoyable and unique dive.

Nudibranch crawling as fast as it can
Nudibranch in a real hurry. Must be really late for work. On a more serious note, nudibranchs can travel about 10 meters in a day. And on an even more serious note, this really is the fastest I’ve seen.

Freediving in the Blue Hole of San Agustin, Tablas Island, Romblon Province, Philippines
This blue hole in San Agustin, Tablas, Romblon, is the first and only known blue hole in the country. It has been known to have a depth of 35meters, with an arc at the bottom leading to a different exit.
Our fisherman boatman told us on our way to the blue hole that the water there is always choppy and current is often strong. However, to his astonishment, the water was so flat and water current could hardly be felt either at the surface or down beneath.
Water temperature was at around 28°C with a perfect visibility of 12-15meters.
Since i started freediving in October of last year (2015), i have always dreamed of freediving in this spot. And it finally happened.
My RAID (WSF) certificate allows me to dive up to 20meters down. However, since freediving is a very risky activity especially when diving alone, i did not intend to reach the bottom (obviously since its beyond my certificate limitations), nor even to reach my maximum limit considering that i do not have a freediving buddy who knows how to respond to an emergency should a situation would arise.
It was just then my intention to go as far as my average dive of 8-12meters. I have completed 7dives in a little more than 2hours, with an average dive depth of 8meters, deepest dive of 10meters. Maximum breath hold of 52seconds.
It was kinda eery as went deeper into the hole since it gets darker every distance i cover, and fear was not something I could skip out considering that i do not know whats inside, not even any possible structure within it, nor any possible sea creature living in it, hence creating an element of panic giving me the urge to stop and turn back up.
I've always had a difficulty equalizing and that i need to practice more on my Frenzel Maneuver, but personally, base on my experience diving this hole, diving in an enclosed perfectly vertical narrow tunnel as this blue hole has added more pressure leading to added difficulty to equalize. I'm not sure if its only me though. But anyway, i had fun. And it was exciting to tick this off my bucket list.
Well, there's more reason for me to visit Romblon again sometime in the future; to explore further Tablas, as well as to freedive again in the Blue Hole with a fellow freediver and hopefully then,i'd have mastered my Frenzel and that i have a higher certificate so i can dive further than 20meters, and hopefully complete diving to the bottom of this hole and exit thru the arc to the other side. And of course, explore more of the hidden and unspoiled beaches of Tablas, Romblon and Sibuyan Islands of Romblon Province.
To our guides Jay Mcgrace and Charles, to our fellow couchsurfer Patrick Lim and his parents who took care of us and accommodated us in San Agustin, to my travel buddies Jefferson Patulot Balon and Jes Rayos, thank you all so much for making my Romblon Birthday Trip possible and super fun.
Till then...
