Dumyat Drone Footage
The Dumyat Hill Race is a popular fixture on the hill running calendar – providing a fun, challenging event set around the University of Stirling campus. It also doubles as the Scottish Student Sport Hill Running Championship.
This year we had video cameras documenting the build up to the hill race and the race itself. Take a look at this incredible drone footage shot by first year Marketing and Philosophy Samuel Longstreth (his Youtube channel is samuel longstreth.
This is just a short teaser to the longer Dumyat hill race film that will be coming out at the end of summer!

VE Day Commemoration, Stirling Castle.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE day, a beacon is lit on the esplanade of Stirling Castle at the same time as a beacon on Dumyat summit in the Ochil Hills. Followed by a performance by retro dance group, The Kennedy Cupcakes in the nearby Guildhall.
Block 1 at Dumyat Business Park, outside Alloa
Dumyat Business Park comprises a 2.4 acre site with a total of five modern trade counter units to let over two blocks, as well as 0.72 of an acre of development land.
The Business Park is situated in a prominent position off the A907 Alloa Road, approximately 2 miles north west of Alloa town centre and 4 miles north east of Stirling and strategically located approximately 40 miles from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The M80 and M9 motorways are both within close proximity affording access across central Scotland and beyond to the north and south.
On arrival, and once inside the welcoming entry vestubile, a short hallway takes the visitor towards a ladies, gents and accessible toilet with shower. There are two additional small rooms on the ground floor, both ideal for storage and one complete with sink, that then lead into the huge 7,000 sq ft main unit complete with electric roller shutter door (3.5m x 4m).
Stairs (or fully functioning lift) lead up towards the 1,712 sq ft Mezzanine area and straight into the kitchen area, complete with sink, storage and beautiful views towards the Ochils. There is also a small Communications cupboard perfect for server storage / CCTV controls as desired. At the far end of this room, there is space for a canteen area or, with a little work, a third office.
There are already two well-sized offices leading off the kitchen area, each with a window and a number of power points.
The National Wallace Monument
Construction of the 67m (220ft) Wallace Monument was completed in 1869. It stands on the Abbey Craig hill and after climbing the 246 steps, the views from the top are wonderful. It overlooks the City of Stirling and surrounding countryside.
Built as a monument to Sir William Wallace who, in 1297, defeated the invading forces of Edward I of England (Longshanks) at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
The movie Braveheart depicting Wallace has made this attraction even more popular, although the storyline in the film was mainly fictitious and historically only vaguely fact based.
Music from Braveheart.
Dumyat & The Ochils ~~ Snow
Dumyat (pronounced /dʌˈmaɪ.ɨt/) is a hill at the western extremity of the Ochil Hills in central Scotland. The name is thought to originate from Dun (hill fort) of the Maeatae.
The Maeatae were a confederation of tribes who lived probably beyond the Antonine Wall in Roman Britain. The historical sources are vague as to the exact region they inhabited. They appear to have come together as a result of treaties struck between the Roman Empire and the various frontier tribes in the 180s AD under the governorship of Ulpius Marcellus.
In 210 AD they began a serious revolt against the Roman Empire.
The Miathi, mentioned in Adomnán's Life of Columba, probably to be identified with the Southern Picts, appear to be the same ethnic group, their identity seemingly surviving in some form as late as the 6th or 7th centuries AD.
Although relatively small (its height is 418 metres), the characteristic shape of the hill forms an important part of the distinctive scenery of the Stirling area, and it is often depicted (particularly in postcards and calendars) in combination with the nearby Abbey Craig. The hill is a popular climb with tourists and visitors to the Stirling and Trossachs area, due to the historical nature of Stirling and the proximity of the Wallace Monument.
Dumyat has two principal summits: Castle Law on the west, and Dumyat proper on the east. On the summit of Castle Law the remains of an ancient hill fort, originally occupied by the Maeatae, are still clearly discernible.
t the top is a memorial to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, a trig point, and a characteristic cairn with a beacon on top that is currently filled with stones. The stones which are placed in the beacon are all wishes that have been made by others. The beacon on the top of Dumyat was commissioned for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. It was carried up and erected by the Menstrie Scout Group and was part of the UK chain of beacons lit as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

Hiking Dumyat Hill (again) and Camera Miracles! ✈ Travel Scotland
Week 3 was a weird week. It was my last week of classes so I spent a lot of it working on my giant paper I had to write for my journalism class. This didn't leave much time for other things. We hiked Dumyat Hill again, and went to Glasgow where we visited a random museum and went shopping.
Watch at your own peril.

Torwood (Tappoch) Broch
This Iron Age dwelling was excavated from a large mound in 1864. It is one of the best examples of a lowland Broch, and dates from around 500 BC. It is situated on a now tree covered hill at Torwood, near Falkirk.
Broch`s were circular stone defensive dwellings which rose to several storys high.
The walls at ground level are 20 feet thick, and the surviving structure is about 7 feet high.
Sadly it has deteriorated greatly since excavation, and has not been cared for. This is sad for such an old surviving structure which is part of Scotland`s history.
