We were supposed to be in Wairoa Gorge Bike Park. Unfortunately a culvert washed out, closing the park. So instead Kent, Jamie, Robert and I decided to make the most of the weekend and go to Nelson instead. Jamie had been wanting to do Dun Mountain Trail for a while now, so it was the perfect opportunity to do so.

This exciting one-day mountain trail from Nelson climbs to a height of 878m on Dun Mountain along New Zealand’s first railway line before descending back down to Nelson.
The Dun Mountain rises to 1129m and due to its unique geology, is one of the most distinctive mountains around Nelson.

Steep 629 Trail, Nelson, New Zealand
629 is a very nice trail. Since I didn't find the fireroad to climb up, I walked up the trail, which is very hard. Fireroad seems to go off quite a distance from Dun Mountain trail.
The Coppermine Trail, Nelson, New Zealand
After a couple of postponements we finally cycled the Coppermine Trail last weekend, in perfect conditions. And how was it? An incredible mini version of the Heaphy and Old Ghost Road tracks. A long winding climb to above the bush-line and then a wicked descent to a beautiful river valley. And it's right here in our backyard, accessible from downtown Nelson!

One of the most highly recommended MTB trials in New Zealand. We did this track after the Old Ghost Road and it blew us even more away. Highly recommend to stick it out for the climb because the downhill is one of the best downhills I have ever experienced.
Bike is a Giant Trance Advanced with upgraded Stem.
