Places to see in ( Balloch - UK )
Places to see in ( Balloch - UK )
Balloch is a small town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, at the foot of Loch Lomond. Balloch comes from the Gaelic word bal (baile or ball) which means village or hamlet, so Balloch means village on the loch, i.e. the nearby Loch Lomond. The word bealach means a pass.
Balloch is at the north end of the Vale of Leven, straddling the River Leven itself. It connects to the larger town of Alexandria and to the smaller village of Jamestown, both of which are located to its south. It also borders the Kilpatrick Hills. To the east of the town lies the major local authority housing scheme in the area known as 'The Haldane' or 'The Mill of Haldane'. At 56 degrees N, Balloch is at about the same latitude as Moscow.
With its accessible location at the southern end of Loch Lomond and just off the main road from Glasgow to the West Highlands (A82), it is an important centre of tourism, especially from Glasgow and Dumbarton. The town has a number of hotels, inns and pubs, and there are cruises from Balloch up Loch Lomond, and other services, including to nearby locations like Luss, and the Renfrew Ferry service. The largest number of boats cruising on Loch Lomond leave from Balloch. The town is also the home of Dunkirk vessel Skylark XI which helped rescue 600 troops during WWII. It contains Balloch Country Park and Balloch Castle, and is at the southern end of the first Scottish national park, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. There is a Sea Life Centre in the town. The Loch Lomond Youth Soccer Festival used to take place in the town. Lochfoot in the Jean Robertson novels of Jane Duncan is partly based on the town. The PS Maid of the Loch is currently being restored at Balloch pier and the Balloch Steam Slipway is located nearby.
The A811 road (based on an 18th-century military road) goes from Balloch to Stirling, and the A813 goes from Dumbarton to Balloch. The Glasgow to Loch Lomond cycle path (part of National Cycle Route 7) ends at Balloch. The West Loch Lomond Cycle Path also runs from Balloch. The town was formerly served by two railway stations on the Caledonian and Dunbartonshire Junction Railway: Balloch Central, and Balloch Pier, which closed in 1988 and 1986, respectively. The town now has one railway station opened by British Rail, which is a terminus of the North Clyde electric train service from Glasgow.

Places to see in ( Brora - UK )
Brora is a village in the east of Sutherland, in the Highland area of Scotland. The name Brora is derived from ancient Norse, meaning 'river with a bridge. A small industrial village having at one time a coal pit, boat building, salt pans, fish curing, lemonade factory, the new Clynelish Distillery (as well as the old Clynelish distillery which is now called the Brora distillery ), wool mill, bricks and a stone quarry. The white sandstone in the Clynelish quarry belongs to the Brora Formation, of the Callovian and Oxfordian stages (formerly Middle Oolite) of the Mid-Late Jurassic. Stone from the quarry was used in the construction of London Bridge, Liverpool Cathedral and Dunrobin Castle.
When in operation, the coalmine was the most northerly coalmine in the UK. Brora was the first place in the north of Scotland to have electricity thanks to its wool industry. This distinction gave rise to the local nickname of Electric City at the time. Brora also houses a baronial style clock tower which is a war memorial.
The village is situated where the A9 road and the Far North Line bridge the River Brora. The village is served by a railway station. Buses operate about every two hours Mondays-Saturdays and infrequently on Sundays from Brora to Golspie, Dornoch, Tain and Inverness in the south and Helmsdale, Berriedale, Dunbeath, Halkirk, Thurso and Scrabster in the north. These are on route X99 and are operated by Stagecoach in the Highlands.
An education is available for primary school children in Brora Primary School in Johnstone Place. The building was formerly Brora High School, that included the primary department. Although the school opened in 1962, the secondary department closed in 1985. Includes a playgroup, nursery and Primaries 1 to 7. Pupils are taken by school transportation to the near by Golspie High School.

New Year's Day Drive South On The A9 Road To Perth Perthshir Scotland
Tour Scotland New Year's Day video of a late afternoon drive South on the A9 Road from Dunkeld to the Fair City of Perth, Perthshire. The section of the road between Perth and Inverness in the Highlands is often cited as being the most dangerous section of the road, and regularly appears in lists of Scotland's most dangerous roads.[11] This portion of the road is mostly single-carriageway, however there are intermittent short sections of dual carriageway from Perth to Luncarty, Bankfoot to Birnam, Pitlochry to Killiecrankie, south of Drumochter Summit, Slochd Summit to Tomatin and south of Inverness as well as shorter three lane overtaking sections to reduce frustration and accidents. All the towns on this section of the route have now been bypassed.

Keiss Castle Caithness Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of Keiss Castle, a partially ruined castle. overlooking the sea, on ancestry visit to Caithness. The castle was built possibly on the site of an earlier fort in the late 16th or early 17th century by George Sinclair, 5th Earl of Caithness, born 1582, died 1643. It seems the castle was in existence in 1623 when ?King James I commissioned Sir Robert Gordon to enter Caithness with an armed force. The 7th Earl died in the castle in 1698 but it is reported that the castle was ruinous in 1700 and in 1726 was being repaired. The estate was purchased by Sir William Sinclair, 2nd Baronet of Dunbeath early in the 18th century and in 1752 Keiss became his family seat.
Drone over Edinburgh. 4k footage of Edinburgh Scotland. Castles, Highlands, Arthur's Seat & more
I was honestly surprised how stunning Edinburgh was from the air ... it's a beautiful city, unlike any other, as seen from the skies, with High Street rolling up to it's massive castle scraping the sky, and Arthur's Seat hulking in the backdrop. Then, rolling down to Leith at the short with it's golden waterways ... absolutely amazing to see it in glorious 4k.
