Some video I recorded back on the 20th of July on a road trip with some friends.
This was actually a really great tour. I only show a little bit of it in the video as I would encourage people to go and see and do the tour yourself to experience it.
This is a replica of the Dunbrody Famine Ship that used to sail out of New Ross back in the mid 1700's during the Great Irish Potato Famine. The Dunbrody was but one of many ships that were used by not just thousands but eventually millions of Irish men, women and children to escape the Famine in Ireland seeking a better life in the USA.
The bell you see towards the end of the video is the only remaining piece of the original Dunbrody.

The Dunbrody - Irish Famine Ship
A potato blight in Ireland, starting in 1845, resulted in the death of over one million people and set in motion one of the greatest human migrations in history. During the famine years over one and a half million Irish men, woman and children left their country on famine ships like the Dunbrody now on perminent display in New Ross, Ireland. Visitors tour below deck and actors tell of the people's experience on the 6-8 week voyage to America when as many as 50 percent perished. In our time there is another Irish migration underway, this one caused by the worldwide economic decline.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship is an authentic reproduction of an 1840’s famine emigrant vessel and provides a unique insight into the bravery and fortitude with which Irish people faced up to a desperate situation.
In 1845 potato blight killed the staple crop of the Irish tenant farmers. This economic blow was exacerbated by the disinterest, and outright hostility, towards Ireland of British politicians. Within seven years, 1 million people had died and 1.5 million had emigrated.
