The Dundas Valley is one of southern Ontario's most spectacular natural treasures. Highlights of the 1,200-hectare conservation area include lush Carolinian forests, colourful meadows, cold-water streams, stunning geological formations and an array of rare plants, birds and wildlife.
The area is part of a large glacial valley that spreads out into Lake Ontario. It was excavated by a succession of glaciers that disappeared some 10,000 years ago The landscape that emerged has been shaped by glacial melt water and, more recently, by streams flowing through the valley.
The rich natural environment existing here and along the Niagara Escarpment has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In 1855, George Leith and his wife Eleanor Ferrier built an elegant stone mansion. Their daughter, Alma Dick-Lauder, resided there until a 1934 fire; she then lived in a modest house within its ruins. In 1972, HCA acquired the 49 hectare site. Some claim ghostly sounds nearby date to coachmanWilliam Black's 1830's suicide as a heartbroken lover.

Hiking Ontario's Old Growth Forests: Dundas Valley
Location - Dundas Valley - 650 Governors Rd, Hamilton Ontario
In this video, we see John and some of his closest friends explore some of the most breath taking urban forest in Southern Ontario. We explore Hamilton's infamous Dundas Valley & surrounding forests. Some clips were taken near by at Cootes Paradise behind McMaster University. We found plenty of old growth carolinian forest, much of it I believe was seldomly logged. If it was interfered with at one point I believe it would have been selectively cut. Much of the mature oak canopy is upwards of 250 - 300 years old. Dundas Valley, as seen also holds some magnificent Eastern Hemlock and White Pine groves. I hope you enjoy!
