Gyrperegrine Falconry
Staff of The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo recently caught up with local falconer Adam Chavez exercising his European goshawk, prarie falcon, and gyrperegrine, a peregrine-gyrfalcon hybrid. The clip features the gyrperegrine, in action, including an unplanned, non-lethal encounter with a flock of wild birds. Falconry enthusiasts played an important role in the recovery of the peregrine from a DDT induced brush with extinction. The Reserve hopes to feature Adam in a future public program.
BTO Bird ID - Diving Ducks
Dabbling ducks are so familiar, but there is also a group of common ducks that actively dive on freshwater for food. One or other is likely to be encountered on still or moving freshwater or even at sea so let this workshop help you to decide which diving duck you are seeing.

New Bird Hide On The Flamborough Coast Given The Green Light
A new bird hide on the Yorkshire Coast could be up and running by this time next year, according to the the Flamborough Bird Observatory.
The group have just had planning permission granted to develop a hide near Flamborough lighthouse which will offer a safe place for bird watchers in bad weather.
And the development will be the end of a long process for the observatory's volunteers, as Mark Blackburn found out.

When Falcons Attack
When falcons attack. Peregrine Falcon Banding, Sheraton Hotel, Hamilton Ontario, 2009. Please read the comments that exist before you go spouting off. The work we do helps the birds. These birds were almost extinct before these efforts began to turn the tide. As it says in the video, the birds are fine, the babies are fine and this doesn't harm them in any way. This is under the direct supervision of scientists, unless you have evidence to the contrary, please just enjoy the education and have a nice day.

Osprey Catching Breakfast
Early morning on the InterCoastal Waterway in St Pete Beach, FL, an Osprey catches breakfast. Videoed with an iPhone 6 through binoculars at 240 fps. Tracking the spectacular bird in flight is difficult, but most of the clip shows the bird in frame.
Curlew Capers (and song)
The Curlew's song is one of the most beautiful sounds of the countryside. As well as the song, the Curlew's call and long curved bill tend to stick in the memory. This video shows Eurasian Curlews (numenius arquata) in Spring and early Summer in the heart of Britain.
