Bahamas or Bust #6- Harbour Island/Hatchet Cave/Queens Bath, Ate at; Da Perk, Runaway Hill & Tippy's
Janis and I are on our 3rd day in Eleuthera. Our new go-to place to eat breakfast is; Da-Perk, in Governor's Harbour. They are under new management and have started serving dinner on Thursdays as well. From there we stopped/searched for Hatchet Cave, stopped at the Window Glass Bridge and on to Harbour Island, where we spent the day checking out the local architecture and had a great lunch at Runaway Hill Inn. On the way back we visited Queens Bath and after a great/filling lunch at Runaway Hill Inn, we ended the day with a light dinner at Tippy's in Governor's Harbour.
OH....

Cruising the Hills of Harbour Island Eleuthera # 4
Golfcart cruising is a perfect way to tour - you just get a better feel for the place and the people. Also easier to squeeze through the narrow roads with lots of cars and carts, while driving on the 'other side' of the road. As you climb the gentle hills from north to south you leave the neat little homes and yards of the more working class end of town - to the estate and estate like homes in the south part of the Island. Dunmore Town is more tourist orientated and just a nice quiet place to hide away from the world for a bit - while still having enough people, places and things to do to keep you amused. One of our biggest regrets was only doing a day trip here - this is definitely a destination spot and one day we must come back for longer. location@ googlemap of Eleuthera @ yolotraveller.com

Harbour Island, Bahamas
Riding a golf cart around the island. Harbour Island, Bahamas is a beautiful island paradise. We stayed at The Coral Sands. Perfect pink sand beaches!!!
Walking Bay Street - Harbour Island Eleuthera #2
Bay Street early in the morning makes for a beautiful walk and a better feel for the history of Harbour Island. The Bahamas take pride in the fact it was the first democracy in the New World and as the plaque says - Harbour Islanders were a big part of that. Nice way to introduce yourself to the laidback lifestyle and work up an appetite for breakfast. Then it's time for a golfcart and some real touring, Location @ googlemap of Eleuthera @ yolotraveller.com

Harbour Island Beachfront Bungalow
This Harbour Island Beach Bungalow is located bay side in the exclusive Narrows of Harbour Island. The bungalow sits on 1 acre plot of land with its own dock and private beach. The property is only accessible via golf cart in a secluded location away from the small town area of the island - Perfect for that getaway vacation.
The bungalow consists of 3 native stone buildings with 6 en suite bedrooms in 2 of the buildings and the main house is an open great room complete with chef's kitchen, living room and dining room. It has all the amenities one would expect from a luxury property including internet, satellite TV, air conditioning in all rooms, reverse osmosis water system and a generator for any occasional power outage. In one of the outer houses there are 4 bedrooms and the third building is home to two master suites. The bungalow is the perfect setting for a gathering of family or friends to make a memorable vacation.

Spanish Wells Eleuthera #6 Cruising Main Street
Main St of Spanish Wells ( Samuel Guy St ) - cruising in a golf cart - go figure. This is truly a Main Street - everything is on it - from Church to School to garages to restaurants, stores, bank, FM station , houses, boats, lumber yard - you name it - it was here. Even the prettiest cemetary I have ever seen ( there must be an army of those little moustached street cleaners from the past, dressed all in white, pushing around their little white carts - sweeping up, cleaning up late at night - this place is just spotless...everywhere) Started at the gazebo at the east end of the Island watching the Ferries coming over from the 'mainland', ended up going around in a loop back to my favourite spot - the wharf. Stopped at the Food Fair - which is as modern as any store back home - just as good a selection - as fresh as anywhere - just a bit more pricey than the North Eleuthera Shopping Center. And there was MY bank - RBC - Royal Bank of Canada - just had to go in and check it out - after all it is Canadian -eh . Lady teller had the deepest English accent I heard the whole time in the Bahamas. Spanish Wells is an experiencethat would be a mistake to miss . Have a better look at the street layout on the Google map of Eleuthera @ yolotraveller.com

SUMMARY
=======
The Southern United States, also known as the American South, Dixie, Dixieland, or simply the South, is a region of the United States of America. It is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Western United States, with the Midwestern United States and Northeastern United States to its north and the Gulf of Mexico and Mexico to its south.
The South does not fully match the geographic south of the United States but is commonly defined as including the states that fought for the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. The Deep South is fully located in the southeastern corner. Arizona and New Mexico, which are geographically in the southern part of the country, are rarely considered part, while West Virginia, which separated from Virginia in 1863, commonly is. Some scholars have proposed definitions of the South that do not coincide neatly with state boundaries. While the states of Delaware and Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia, permitted slavery prior to the start of the Civil War, they remained with the Union. Since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, they became more culturally, economically, and politically aligned with the industrial Northern states, and are often identified as part of the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast by many residents, businesses, public institutions, and private organizations,but the United States Census Bureau puts them in the South.
Usually, the South is defined as including the southeastern and south-central United States. The region is known for its culture and history, having developed its own customs, musical styles, and cuisines, which have distinguished it in some ways from the rest of the United States. The Southern ethnic heritage is diverse and includes strong European (mostly English, Scottish, Scotch-Irish, Irish, German, French, and Spanish American), African, and some Native American components.Some other aspects of the historical and cultural development of the South have been influenced by the institution of slave labor on plantations in the Deep South to an extent seen nowhere else in the United States; the presence of a large proportion of African Americans in the population; support for the doctrine of states' rights, and the legacy of racial tension magnified by the Civil War and Reconstruction Era, as seen in thousands of lynchings (mostly from 1880 to 1930), the segregated system of separate schools and public facilities known as Jim Crow laws, that lasted until the 1960s, and the widespread use of poll taxes and other methods to frequently deny black people of the right to vote or hold office until the 1960s. Since the late 1960s, black people have held many offices in Southern states, especially in the coastal states of Virginia and South Carolina. Many black people have also been elected or appointed as mayors and police chiefs in the metropolises of Charlotte, Birmingham, Richmond, Columbia, Memphis, Houston, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and New Orleans, and serve in both the U.S. Congress and state legislatures.Historically, the South relied heavily on agriculture, and was highly rural until after 1945. It has since become more industrialized and urban and has attracted national and international migrants. The American South is now among the fastest-growing areas in the United States. Houston is the largest city in the Southern United States. Sociological research indicates that Southern collective identity stems from political, demographic, and cultural distinctiveness from the rest of the United States. The region contains almost all of the Bible Belt, an area of high Protestant church attendance (especially evangelical churches such as the Southern Baptist Convention) and predominantly conservative, religion-influenced politics. Indeed, studies have shown that Southerners are more conservative than non-Southerners in several areas, including religion, morality, international relations, and race relations. This is ...
