At about 180 feet (55 m) high and 600 feet (180 m) long, the waterfalls are terraced like giant natural stairs though some incorporate man-made improvements. Several small lagoons are interspersed among the vertical sections of the falls.

The falls empty into the Caribbean Sea at the western end of an attractive white-sand beach.
Climbing the waterfalls is a popular tourist activity and is often, but not exclusively, performed with the help of tour guides from the park. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to climb with short breaks for photographs & video recordings taken by the guides. There are also stairs, alongside of the falls, for those who do not want to get wet or are unable to manage the rocky, uneven terrain of the actual waterfall.

Climbing Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica

I climb Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, beginning at the bottom -- the “Tornado” entrance where the falls empty out onto the beach. It took me 14½ minutes to ascend to the exit sign, then I continued up a couple minutes farther.

Exiting at 1:27 p.m., I decide to climb one more time.

While on Navigator of the Seas, our cruise was diverted from Ocho Rios to Montego Bay. The excursions desk arranged for a shuttle bus back to Ocho Rios and Dunns River Falls. We got back to Montego Bay an hour after last all aboard call, and last to board the ship. The port people and ship crew rushed us through customs and back aboard. Captain was not happy, but we made it back... that's all that mattered to Julie and I. They had no choice but to wait since it was an RCCL excursion...booking through the cruise excursions desk paid off big time. They would have left Montego Bay without us otherwise. We traveled across the island of Jamaica to see Dolphin Cove and Dunns River Falls. Long bus trip but worth it. The falls are amazing and a must see if in Jamaica!

So we are back once again to the Dunn's river falls but this time with Judah 'my tour guide' ????. If you know me I have a poor sense of direction at times so its always good having her lead the way. Dunn's River Falls is in the heart of Ocho Rios and is a popular tourist spot, a must go whenever you are here in the Jamaica. It is really strange to say you have been to Jamaica and never climbed the Dunn's River Falls.

Ocho Rios Local Bus to Dunn's River Falls

If you dont fancy an excursion on the cruise simply take a well organised local bus which takes you to the falls. The bus is cheap and the entry to the falls is $20 and more if you actually want to do the falls. Comments are by the bus driver. Yeh Man!
