Out for an Australia Day detect with the GPZ7000. Couldn't travel too far from the car due to a knee injury earlier in the week. Pretty happy to find this beauty after the recent rain had shifted some dirt from ground previously detected.

Fromelles bookview
Preview of Patrick Lindsay's book, Fromelles, the story of the WWI battle of 19 July 1916, the darkest day in Australia's history, when almost 2000 men died and 3500 were wounded, missing or taken prisoner. The book tells of the battle through the eyes of the soldiers who took part in it and reveals the remarkable detective story which saw 250 missing soldiers from the battle recently discovered in a mass German grave after 94 years.

The Bulldog reef workings at Moliagul Victoria
long video 24 mins
the bulldog reef was found in the 1850s This reef has been worked both sides of the Bulldog or Black Lead. To the north, it was
also called the Black Reef or Welcome Stranger Reef. On the south it was also Moliagul Reef The northern
end was discovered in 1857 and by 1859 was returning 2 1/2 oz/ton. a shaft was sunk to the west to work the
reef at the 200 ft level.
1857: Bulldog Gully was opened in May 1856, and the Black Lead, of Welcome Stranger fame, in 1857.
May 1857: There was also a large rush on 25th May to Bulldog Gully . but the gold was neither rich nor

extensive, although there was a great number there.
1857: This reef was worked first at the time of the Bulldog Rush by all foreigners - Italians, Frenchmen and
Jews - in August 1857, and the reef was yielding well at this time. It was also called Black Reef.
1859: Only one claim working on the Bulldog Reef, but it was averaging 2-1/2 ounces to the ton and was 40
yards long and 140 feet deep. it is also near the site of the welcome stranger nugget the biggest gold nugget ever found in the world. At the time of the discovery, there were no scales capable of weighing a nugget this large, so it was broken into three pieces on an anvil by Dunolly-based blacksmith Archibald Walls. the anvil used can still be seen in the township of Dunolly Victoria outside the historical museum on the main street they also have a replica of the same nugget.

Glenhuntly Rail Square and Trams with Catch Points - Last day of Operational Catch Points.
English - It's the end of an era for tram and train signalling across Melbourne June 24th and 25th 2017. The Glenhuntly Rail Square, one of three still in operation across Melbourne loses it's tram derail catch points. .
A rail square is where a tram and train cross each other at a station and roadway serviced by trams. Both require different voltages and the signaler in the signal box ensures that the correct overhead voltage is set for either the train or tram as each crosses the square.
The catch points are designed to derail a tram if the driver disobeys the tram red T light signal and trys to enter the rail square while the overhead voltage is set for trains. Trains use 1500 volts and trams 600 volts.
After the transformation taking place on June 24th and 25th 2017, catch points will be a thing of the past as Glenhuntly loses this unique signalling feature.
The remaining squares at Kooyong and Riversdale and the now former Gardiner Rail Square lost their catch points a number of years ago.
Filmed 23rd June 2017.
