Lofar: Ireland's Bid for a New Radio Observatory
Short video explaining how building a Low Frequency Array (Lofar) radio observatory in Ireland will help us discover new secrets of the Universe, promote university-industry links, and inspire the next generation of Irish scientists. We’re celebrating 10 years as an award-winning science and discovery centre in Ireland. Since 2007 over 1 million people across all ages have engaged with our BCO team on explorations of contemporary science and technology through the theme of astronomy and space.

Deadly Moons Art Astronomy Workshops by Deirdre Kelleghan Artist /Astronomer - Deadly means really cool in street talk. The evaluation data shows that for most part children are not aware that there are other moons .
These children were interviewed directly after the moon workshops. The idea was to try to capture the fun , interest and energy produced by drawing. These young children produced beautiful work and learned something new. Many went on to read up on their moons and learn more.

The Dunsink Observatory is an astronomical observatory established in 1785 in the townland of Dunsink near the city of Dublin, Ireland.Its most famous director was William Rowan Hamilton, who, amongst other things, discovered quaternions, the first non-commutative algebra, while walking from the observatory to the city with his wife. He is also renowned for his Hamiltonian formulation of dynamics. In the late 20th century, the city encroached ever more on the observatory, which compromised the seeing. The telescope, no longer state of the art, was used mainly for public 'open nights'.
Dunsink observatory is currently part of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS). It provides accommodation for visiting scientists and is also used for conferences and public outreach events. Public talks on astronomy and astrophysics are given regularly at the observatory by professional and amateur astronomers. Stargazing events are also held using the Grubb telescope.

Lands at Dunsink lane
Yesterday in the Dáil I raised the issue of using the available council lands around Dunsink Lane for the construction of badly needed social and affordable houses. These lands have enormous potential for alleviating the current housing crisis.

SolarFest is the celebration of Solar Astronomy for astronomers, astrophysicists, amateur astronomers, as well as for the general public. This event takes place ever year at the Dunsink Observatory in Ireland.
